How do I do this? Is there some option I turn on to tell me where it is, or is there some way to display a grid? Please help.

Hit print screen and open the screen grab in an imaging program.
Imaging programs tell you which pixel in your picture your cursor is at.

mouse pointer doesn't show up in screengrabs so that's out of the question

He could still eyeball the pixel by placing his cursor where it was when he took the screencap, unless it's something super precise it should probably be "good enough".

also note that in most cases the pixels will go (on 800x600 for example) from 0-799 and 0-599 so take that into account.
