War really seems like my type of game now. Sounds like pvp is kick ass and I like how its dark not cartoony like wow. I really like RvR in DAOC and DAOC was my fav game...

Only thing keeping me from getting it is it looks like I will have to get a new mobo, videocard and some more ram to play the game.

Hmmm, I just finished installing and updating WAR but I seem to be getting no video when I execute, sound and everything else is probably running fine, screen is just black.

I really hope I don't have to go driver hunting.

why is the 10/6 gear issues such a big deal

it's like

the easiest shit to get that you'll be getting anyways

Because, as I already pointed out earlier, it makes a small portion of players in the T1 bracket damned near god-like, and absolutely flies in the face of their (supposed) design philosophy of equipment not being that big a deal.

I think people are going to hate me for this, but in going through and cleaning up my email I just remembered I have a closed account, and I haven't been using it D:

Oh well, time to rectify the situation and see what I've missed out on.

While I'm downloading the client (at least I sure hope I am--the file I got from the site was WARBits.torrent?), are there any idiot guides to the game that I should look into (besides those podcasts, which I'm going to go through now)?

Yeah, at 10/6. Which means doing enough RvR before-hand without it, where you're having your ass handed to you be people that have, literally, six times your armor rating, double your stats, and triple your resistances.

It's not like it's a game-ending issue. It's one of those things that's just so simple to correct that it strikes me as unconscionable. And it's not so much that the 10/6 gear is necessarily so badass, it's that, compared to the absolute garbage that is itemization before it, it's an enormous upgrade. It's even more dramatic than the difference between greens and epics in WoW.

They can at level 10, but Tier one is level 1-11 so you have a small portion of the players who can have fuck-awesome gear while the majority can't. Plus the existence of said gear isn't advertised at-all and in fact you have to travel to a higher level zone in order to acquire it. So newbies get just slaughtered while people who were in closed-beta(or who read internet posts about WAR) are god-like in comparison.

So I played a Black Orc today and was a little underwhelmed with him until I hit level 10 and got the 10/6 gear and holy fuck, I am a beefcake. Lowbie gear is really terrible, I had a 6DPS weapon up until level 9 when I got a quest reward that doubled it. I also didn't even have a helmet or shoulders before. Even putting aside the power imbalance issue in scenarios, which is annoying for the first 10 levels but probably not as big a deal afterwards, the quests leave too many gear gaps.

That right there, at level 12 on my High Elf Swordmaster, I was still by Chrace doing quests and killed some L9 NPC's, which dropped a huge upgrade for me.

There are too many quests that give out ONLY xp, they need to improve itemization on quests, as well as the itemization that is there already.

Also for a balance question:
Does capping a flag break stealth? I'm pretty sure I saw a WitchElf cap a flag without losing stealth, I was mouse looking behind me to keep an eye on it, and was surprised when it suddenly switched (Khaines Embrace instance).

What's the status on the Order guild? I looked on the forum in the OP and it's basically just darkewolfe talking to himself. I had planned to go Destro, but the 360a crew is going Order... so I was wondering if it was going to be worth just rolling our group into the guild. I don't want to BE the guild though.

Well I guess my next question is exactly how many scenarios can you actually do before dinging 12?

Hate to play devils advocate but this sounds just like the good ol fashioned twink argument except here you can't even really twink as you are going to force level out in like an hour or so.

A really rough guess; maybe 3-4 hours of scenarios per level and you're out.

Ehh. You can easily hit level 6 in no more than 2 or 3 scenarios depending on how well you are doing on such a low level character. Depending on the queue, thats like a half hour tops. From 7 to 9ish it probably takes anywhere from a half hour to an hour per level. And then at the range from 10 to 12 you are looking at maybe 2 or 3 hours per level.

My times could be way off, but it seems like I can get to 10 so quickly just doing scenarios. It is so much more fun doing it this way than traditional questing that the time just flies by. Contrast with other games where by the time I get to 10 I feel comatose and just want to log off and sleep.

I guess this question is kind of fundamental, but I haven't found a sure answer yet.

Can you REALLY progress through the whole game entirely on RvR? Like, really? Or is it more "Well, you CAN, buuuuut..."?

You can. As a bright mage some of the kills I was getting in the open RvR{?} gave me up to 800-1000 expirence, and a good amount of money. Sometimes 7 times as much money as a mob would give.

You certainly can. You'll be missing some gear (but not the best) and it may be a little slower and less lucrative cash-wise (some quests can be a big bump for both cash and XP), but yeah.

And as a corollary to that, can I move back and forth between RvR and PvE without hitching up? Or is it gonna be a case of "Want to do some PvE now? You missed a bunch of prereqs, better get crackin!"?

(edit) Also that "Tier 5 Town Sieging" thing looks cool as all fucking getout :o

Yes, you can. Just doing scenarios, you get exp, renown, and coin. Thats like the lifeblood of leveling right there. In between scenarios I will grab a quest or two. Maybe even cancel the join scenario dialog if I happen to be doing some interesting quest. For me, it is so much more enjoyable than just straight up questing.

If all you wanted to do was run to your realms war camp per tier and do scenarios than that is what you could do.

There is a queue for Scenarios so more likely you'll probably be doing both. If you don't worry about turning in the repeatable "Play the Scenario" quest, which is only for a small exp/cash bonus, you can just stay in the queue while you quest, join when it's ready and be placed right back where you were when it's done.

I already addressed this like two posts back. The problem with the quick rotation, then, is that you never get any equalization of gear. It's always a minority of players who are just passing through, stomping the shit out of everyone else in the tier. And sure, they level out, and then the next wave takes over.2dtwrbn.jpg

The 100+% armor thing is a display bug, the actual value is roughly half that and it gets fixed when you zone. Still though, my damage reduction went from like 25% to 65% with that gear, so yeah.

Level 10, renown rank 6. It's the requirement for the second set of RvR gear.

Good lord, that's not intentional is it?

I mean from what I'm reading here that means you're still in the tier 1 warzones with tier 2 levels of gear? Why is it level 10 then and not, say, 12?

Warbits is the old pre 3.3 file and is about 10 gigs. The one you want is WarBeta and is about 9.34 Gigs.

Dunno, it might be an oversight but rather than the gear being that incredible it's just that what you're wearing up until then is garbage. You don't get much from quests, so your only real alternative is to buy the first set of level 2 RvR gear, which is alright but it costs you the money you were saving for 10/6. I'll definitely do that with any future characters though.

This one's sized 9.34... hm, where do I go to get the right torrent if this isn't it? I sort of assumed it was the right one since I have 290 seeders and 1.5k peers right now.
