It sure feels good when things are going swimmingly for us. I mean we of the civilized people. America, Canada, Australia, Britain and the rest of Europe and more developed areas of east asia like South Korea and Japan. I can include Hong Kong but I'm not really sure about China as the majority of the people are still farmers, I think it is what, 70%? Excluding China though the rest of us seem to be on the rise, economically and scientifically speaking, yes?

This war with Iraq continues, Russia is up to who knows what, ultimately and economies are shifting around the world. But could you say everything is on the rise?

The American economy has been suffering due to unemployment, increased transportation costs via gas and the housing market crash. This is coupled with the long standing problem of outsourcing and illegal hiring practices by companies. Popular opinion outside of the U.S. seems to be one of smugness against the U.S. as our policies are coming back to bite us in the ass.

I read this article here Britain's Economy at 60 Year Low

How do you forumers feel about the future, since the majority of us are under 30 and even more are under 20. This isn't a doom and gloom things but how do you feel about your future in particular. Not in relation to your job or family but as a society.

I can see China doing good things for America. As a country we only really seem to shine when we've got someone to strive against. Otherwise we just go around the beach kicking sand into smaller countries' faces and then acting all wounded when people call us dicks for it.

If China takes off like they seem to be, America might have an economic rival that can spark a new sense of pride and vigor in our society. I have especially high hopes for a resurgent space race, since Russia seems to have crapped out on us as a catalyst.

Or we might do the England thing and retire to our place in the countryside, and then all the really important stuff this century will take place in various parts of Asia. I can see it going either way, easily.

We've only really been around for a couple hundred years. Compare that to the thousands of years the European countries have been established and I think we're doing pretty good for ourselves.

I don't foresee the US surviving in its current state past ten years...if things get much worse, i'm thinkin it might go the way of armed revolt. but then, i don't have a lot of positive things to say about the administration :S

I saw a statistic that said our economy was up some 5% in the last quarter.

At least gas prices are coming down, right? As an engineer in college hoping to get a job at a nuclear power plant in a few years, the whole energy crisis promises to turn the local plant from a machine that prints money to a machine that manufactures something worth more than money.

    Nuclear power is fantastic.

is our economy in a recession? yeah pretty much

but fuck we're so goddamn well off that our recession is pretty kickass compared to most country's best dreams. it's all about where you view it from
