The cards that came out later began the merchandising craze that we all see as "that horrible shit kids are into these days".
Aside from the core themes of acceptable-slavery and animal cage-fighting the first games were great and were my first venture into the world of RPGs.
I am somewhat in love with the newest incarnation, so-much-so that I am tracking down a copy of Emerald on eBay so I can upload the exclusive critters to Diamond.
