VOIP phone and Me

Hey there, just had a super-quick question, and this being the technology forum and all, seemed like the place to be.

Anyway, for work I have to use a VOIP phone. The phone I recieved doesn't appear to have anything special about it, normal phone cord, reciever what have you. This phone plugs into a box called an IP single port remote. The phone goes into this device, and the device connects to my college dorm's internet. Which I've been told wouldn't be a problem for the phone.

However, after using the phone for ten to twenty minutes, it will proceed to not recieve any sound. I can talk, and call people, but I can't hear a thing, not even a dial tone, despite the fact that the phone is dialing out, as I called my own cell phone and could hear myself talking.

Anyone have any suggestions?
