My boss just found out about my criminal record (and other tales of employment)

I just got my computer at work to get net access, so I figured it was time for a job thread

When my boss called me after my interview he told me he couldn't hire me because I went to jail for murder

I basically cried and pleaded with him that it wasn't true for ten minutes until he told me he was kidding

And the rest is history

What are you guys subjecting yourselves to for money?

I work in a prison, full of murderers, cannibals, and child molesters. Up until about six months ago we had an inmate who was all three rolled into one happy ball of fuck. I didn't like him breathing my air.

I interviewed a guy Tuesday who had a criminal record. I wasn't sure what we were allowed to ask him about that, but that problem was solved when my boss just straight up asked him for every detail.

nah, 20-30 minute drive to the metro station, then an hour on the train each way. not that bad once you get used to it. the trains are pretty relaxing. also, best for people watching.

I worked with a lady who had about a 2.5 hour commute each way because her husband was in the navy and was stationed out at Bangor, so they lived on the Olympic Peninsula but there's shit for work out there so she took a ferry across every day and then bussed out to Bellevue.

If you're in your late-20s it's called Saturn's Return. Ask Callius, he probably knows about hippy shit like that.

My unit manager gets paid about ten percent less than I do, and I'm the low man on the totem pole, just a correctional officer. That sorry fuck had to go through four years of college, fight his way up the chain of command, and still has $30k worth of student loans to pay off. On top of that, he still has to go in on cell extractions and shakedown inmates like the rest of us peons. I remind him of this on a daily basis, and he hates me for it.

My current job is pretty great in terms of time investment, reward, and commute, though I'd like to make that even shorter by moving a bit closer. Within walking distance, maybe.

It's nice to have a normal, laid back sort of job after my last one, where they chose my hours for me, I had to cover for a million people, and wasn't paid extra for overtime!
