last night I was struck with a good/bad idea for cosplay for next year....and I'd like input as to which side the idea falls on (good or bad....)

...because suddenly I rather want to do a gothic lolita version of the CTS outfit---like, yellow/orange kimono top, black frilly short skirt, knee high boots, lacey bits and pacman accessories.......possibly sai made out of paper towel rolls and such?

so....good idea? bad idea? better idea?

    yeah.

THis is where I got my Harley Quinn outfit. There's a couple Lolita costumes. I don't really know what Lolita means...but check 'em out.

    You mean this girl.

    She wasn't doing cosplay, though.

Unless you count the fact that she has a sonic pen.

She told me she was a member of the Rose City Rollers, but I can't seem to find her in the roster pics. She seemed a little light to be a player (those chicks are tough)......

Wow did anybody not talk to her? :P

"Lolita" generally means frilly, fluffy dresses with a lot of ribbons and/or lace. People who like to dress loli style often curl their hair and wear frilly headbands with white stockings and chunky shoes.

"Gothic Lolita" means you dress loli, but everything is black, white, or red, and maybe you overdo the eyeliner.

Yeah, technically it'd probably look more like a magical girl outfit than lolita, but I figured that most people here would recognize the term "gothic lolita" more easily. To my understanding there's names for like, a more reserved/slightly older lolita, princess lolita(RUFFLESSSSS), Gothic Lolita(CROSSESSSS), and....crap, I forget what comes after that.

Anyway, that's why I described it. A Kimono top(referencing the karate gi and hakama-style CTS wears) seemed most fitting, and isn't out of my sewing ability. (Unlike a lot of lolita stuff.) I've already done a CTS crossplay for Sakuracon....06? So I'm looking for something both relevent, recognisible, and more original.

Any mods reading this thread? We should probably move this discussion to the "missed connections" thread, since it has nothing to do with cosplay.

It's great to see more cosplay and interest for cosplay at PAX. I didn't get to see nor speak with everyone who was in costume other than team rocket briefly and I loved the little Links running around.

I think everyone loved Snake, bringing in more cast members just made it that more awesome.

Strangely I never saw any of the TF2 cosplayers but knew they had to be out there SOMEWHERE. Kind of like all the Mario's and Luigi's I saw. Where's Waldo? was way recognizable and definitely earned some laughter.

The Precipice of Darkness groups were excellent - I especially loved those who took it upon themselves to drag garden tools around with them all day.

The Cortana = excellent. Of course Masterchief was impressive as well.

That Darth Vader was TALL. it could be that I'm undeniably short but I was impressed.

Silent Hill nurses, you creeped me out.

Necrons were intimidating. In a good way.

And the Sins of the Solar Empire costume. What in the world. You should be paid for that!

Funny thing is, I know that guy from work. He works for a company that services some of our printers, and I kept hassling him to come to PAX. I never saw him there though because he spent so much time in the expo hall and I spent so little time there.

    ....that's a terrifying thought.

maybe I'll just make it a female CTS-style ninja kinda thing. It got WAY hot in the pink gown I wore as Anne-Claire, so it'd be nice to wear something....well, something that breathed a bit better, at least. Or maybe episode 2 of Rainslick will come out and magically have a new female to cosplay.

Anyway, this is why you need to ask girls for their names, guys. Also, be willing to approach them.

Aw, you beat me to it! I chatted with her as well while waiting for my 1:30AM lift home. Wonderful person, and amazingly knowledgeable. She said she gets the Felicia Day question a lot (even back in her hometown).

Well, I'm glad I didn't ask her that, then.

Towards the end, I gave her my sonic pen as a parting gift in the event that I don't see her again, and she has a photo on her cell phone she hasn't sent me yet where we're dueling. She told me she has a co-worker who's a huge Doctor Who fan that burns her new episodes, so one of these days, she intends to drop by his office while he's having problems and attempt to "troubleshoot."

well I hope she comes to see you again ^_^ *you still have your sonic screwdriver right??* I saw you at about 9:00 pm, AWSOME sonic pen from the first donna episode!!! *tho the two don't ACTUALLy cause glass to break when you put them together....T___T* (was the pen also a black light?) @chicazul::: I woudl so join in on trying to get a cosplay contest!!! (has luigi photo on phone still) You were awsome! (the mario had a quest to skip gleefully along for 10 seconds, who was with us) I was with the tall mario adn luigi and RaZ (I was Lili) XDDD (and I LOVE your avatar!! BGE forever!!!!) seriously, walking around in boy shorts and a string bikini top is NOT ok at a "family friendly event."

Seriously, don't start with that shit. If your "family" isn't capable of handling a scantly clad chick, they shouldn't be playing video games let alone attending a convention dedicated to them. Grow up.

    From the PAX FAQ:

Are there age restrictions to PAX?
Nope. But if you're under 13, please make sure your parents know where you are.

Sounds family friendly to me since they don't even suggest that kids be accompanied.

They're making the assumption that most kids who might be showing up at the convention will 1) have their parents permission, and 2) be reasonably mature enough to handle a little skin.

But you're right; we should make the show 18+ so we don't have to worry about the hyper conservative nut job soccer moms from getting their panties in a twist and storming the gates of Penny Arcade claiming a little flash of ass has some how traumatized their bubble-boxed project child.

regardless, you would see more skin at the beach on a sunny day than you do at pax. Just because the majority of people are clothed doesn't mean the ones who are less dressed are being sexual.

I'm sorry. I didn't take my kid to the beach. I took him to an indoor event... in SEATTLE where it was not bright and warm.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect people to be clothed.

For the love of Christ; grow up. Some day your child is going to look at porn, drink a beer, smoke a cigar, and HAVE SEX! Teach the kid that stealing and murder is bad, lighting prostitutes and kittens on fire is questionable, and that supporting himself and being respectable to his friends is good and you done did a good parenting job.

Or better yet; if you see something at the con you don't like; LEAVE! :winky:

She tried looking online on her phone for a place I was going to meet some twitterers at for me. Never did catch her name tho. Yay for cool hot chicks!

    The only way she could possibly be considered a cougar is if you're 13 ^_^;

I guess I was lucky, then, because I managed to catch her alone all three days. At one point, we were chatting on the second floor, when this guy I met at a party some months back tried to get us to join in on their game of "We Didn't Playtest this." I was just thinking, "Dude, no, I'm talking to a girl. Stop doing that!" Twice she walked away to go to the bathroom, and the guys and I had a bet on whether or not she was coming back (She did, both times.).

Hey, great to see another Who fan. Although technically, that wasn't the first Donna episode ("Runaway Bride."). I don't remember seeing you downstairs, but I do remember showing off the Sonic pen in the general crepe eating area. And yet, I believe that Sonic Pen also has a black light. Amazon.com sells a pen/screwdriver combo. The difference from the Screwdriver on its own is that it doesn't include the UV nub, and doesn't include the psychic paper.

BTW, I just spoke to the roller skate girl in question, and she gave me her permission to post her name on these boards. She's Jeri Ellsworth. She has her own Wikipedia entry, and she's best known for completely reverse engineering the Commodore 64 in the form of a handheld toy that you could plug directly into your TV. I use a Canon Digital Rebel XT. Nothing super special in that dept as it's the cheapest DSLR out there.

I'd say the main "secret" is that I use a prime lens (begin uber-technical speak here) which has no zoom but allows for a wider aperture (more light enters camera) and i can use a faster shutter speed thereby getting sharper images without using a flash since I can't afford one. I do run 'em through CS3 to adjust white balance and levels since I shoot RAW.

There's a photo thread in the Arts section of the forum. We geeks hang out there and pat ourselves on the back a lot.

It's nice to see all the other photos. I can't believe I missed some of the awesome cosplay! You guys are good at being patient and the posing helps get the shot.
