How fucking stupid are Funcom trying to charge $5 for the AoC trial?
Best of my knowledge they only charged for the download client, I was able to give than my discs and a free weak trial.
And even then 5 dollars for a trial isn't bad, you'd play the game get a feel for a decent meele system with cool fatalities and how mind numbing boring the world is with no real feeling of connectedness.

It's mainly going to America for the sake of going to America. The majority of the people going are in their last year of school and coming up to exams and the trip is the second last good thing the school is organizing for them after the Debs.

MMOs only offer trials after the main rush of people who started at launch are more spread out throughout the game. If they offered trials right away no one would buy the game right away and they would have to wait until 2 weeks after launch before they'd sell anything.
After that: yeah, provide a free experience, it's basically similar to any other demos out there, all demos are free, otherwise it defeats the point.
