I really don't see what's so complicated about escort quests and phasing.

Does anyone actually worry about the escorted npc? No, you just want the shit in the way dead.

If they really wanted to, they could replace the usual escort npc with some other random model for your client, but even if they removed them entirely, you'd just have to follow your friend and kill shit along their path.

I mean, who wouldn't have loved to finally see those cages where Corgi (or whatever the fuck his name was) is kept in Nagrand empty? To not have him whining every time you walked by?

"Dude, I just fucking saved you 3 times! You're caught again? Y'know what, fuck you. You can rot in there for all I care."

Sure there are some cases where being able to buff, heal or even just target the friendly mobs is useful, but there are also tons of quests where they could implement an individual reality for each player to build immersion without breaking game mechanics easily.

I am a big fan of Tooga. I don't even turn in the quest. I just take him home and that's that.

It wouldn't be difficult from a design perspective. I just don't understand why people get so hung up on this phasing thing. To use your example: escorting an NPC that you already rescued bugs you (either from a continuity perspective or RP or whatever else), but helping to escort an invisible or placeholder model doesn't? I really don't get what the difference is.

I think most people felt this way doing the actual quest chain.

To be fair, when you're helping someone, you're usually NOT escorting the NPC. You're escorting the other player.

I like how Blizzard decided to be cavalier about it with that night elf chick you save in Felwood. I clicked on her again after rescuing her the first time and the dialogue just says:

"As you inspect the cage and the Night elf inside, you get an odd sense of deja vu. For some reason she does not make eye contact with you -- it is almost as if you are not there to her."

That was actually an amusing touch. The game might not need phasing if every escort NPC changed dialogues to acknowledge that, yes, we're playing an MMO.

Yes, but the other NPC is usually all but irrelavent. You're escorting the friend, who is escorting the NPC. As long as the friend lives and the other mobs die, the npc is pretty much superfluous.

But as noted, they could just put any old random npc model in there instead. It's not necessarily that it's annoying to help on an escort, but it'd be a nice touch not to have the exact same person/thing get injured/trapped every 10 minutes, and it sounds like it'd be pretty easy to implement.

Re: chat channels again, I stay in General because it's usually not too spammy, but when guild chat is dead and I'm out playing an alt on my own, I like to have something to read. Trade I'm in but I have it relegated to a separate tab, so I can glance at it when I want to but it's not cluttering up my regular chat pane. (I make liberal use of chat tabs. Wish I could have two separate stacks of them.)

    1) General
    2) Trade
    3) LFG, when applicable
    4) tank chat
    5) PA forumer alt chat
    6) women chat
    7) warlock chat
    8) random other class chat (usually paladin cos they talk a lot in there, druid on my druid)
    9) healer chat

:rotate: The only one I never bother trying to invade is melee chat cos that's a boys' club and I really don't have any melee alts to even attempt to justify my presence.

I'll jump on this trade channel bandwagon too (forgive me):

    1) General
    2) Trade
    3) LFG, etc
    4) ???
    5) Old guildmates/irl & college friends chat
    6) Long time guildmate chat
    7) Rogue channel
    8) ROS interrupt macro channel
    9) Random guildmate chat

Channels 6 and 9 are just chat channels outside of guild chat made up of essentially guild cliques where just shoot the shit and bitch/moan. I cant remember what channel 4 is though.

    Color coded! I have:
1-4 Normal channels I leave as soon as I see the word "Anal"
    5. Priest emotearz QQ chat and Fear Ward rotations.
    6. Random friends chat: People I met in BC mostly.
    7. Other random friends chat: People I used to raid with in Vanilla WoW but are casual now or in other guilds.
    8. Healing assignments channel.
    9. Real healer channel, where the "no heals" list resides, and we mock people who stand in fire.
    10. Tank chat.

I just resuscribed because I was longing for an open presistent world. And oh boy do I remember why I unsuscribed.

    A) At this point in time the world is EMPTY on my server. Stormwind has 2-3 people hanging around the square max. It is really depressing to see such a big empty world.

    B) Hardly anyone is leveling, more solo play.

    C) I am always the dude who has to get groups together and then keep them together by placating different members.

    D) I could have played a whole round of Dustbowl on TF2 in the time it takes me to fly anywhere.

I still will definitely play when WoTLK comes out, but right now this game feels so dead made worse by the fact that I am once again plowing though old world stuff.

Has anyone else had this happen to them. Recently I leveled my Rogue up to 70 and was really excited about it and having a lot of fun. I got him to 70, did one karazahn and bought the S2 weapons and shoulders, then stopped playing him completely. I only log on this character to make my daily earth storm diamond. I don't know why I don't want to play this guy any more but I just don't. Maybe it's because right now there isn't much I could do with him other than PuG heroics or Karas, my guild is basically in pre-WotLK hibernation mode.

A server I used to play on always seemed so empty. Turns out that it is actually so over populated that they are giving free transfers off. It was the time I was playing, usually in the middle of the night.

It is kind of frustrating trying to get marks on such a battlegroup, you lose to the same group in EOTS 20 times in a row just because you aren't getting new/better players.

Guess what's coming? Besides long PTR queues, anyway.

The next major content patch is coming, and it's big. In order to smooth the way, we will shortly enable background downloading of most of the data for this patch. People who use the Launcher and have background downloading enabled will automatically start getting the data. The Downloader downloads faster in general now, so you may want to adjust your background download settings. You can adjust these settings in the Laucher, by visiting the Options page. If you want the fastest possible download, check the "Don't throttle background download". However, note that this can affect the performance of other programs running at the same time.

Yeah, I don't need another reminder of how far away 3.0 is. If it's the PTR, just tell us. And maybe have more than two fucking PTR servers.

And don't you dare set the authentication servers more recently than mid August.

BTW: Accounts get new scrolls of resurrection to give out over time don't they, they're relatively plentiful?

It might be nice to get one on my alt account with my warrior, but I think it's unlikely that I'd renew that subscription. If anyone had a scroll that they wouldn't mind getting no return on, I'd take it.

The lancher downloaded a new patch when I just opened the game

I do hate windows because instead of giving me one group of updates it's done at least 6 in the last 24 hours

I went to the ptr when they opened up Black Temple got my free tier 5 and lamented the fact I would never see that gear
