I actually really like that intro video, and I think that the idea of a truly gritty, dark, and monumentally depressing Warhammer RPG has potential.

But Climax was not the company to realize that potential.

So is this game the real deal? I have been reading and watching all the open beta coverage, and I am really tempted to pre-order and play it right now!

But I long ago vowed never again to purchase a mmo that I haven't tried out first. (thats for you, Horizons)

Those of you who are playing it, does it have staying power? Or are people going to flock to it, then bail on it like AoC?

I'd say it has staying power. The problem with AoC is that it's content sparse. It's basically half a game. The first 20-30 levels are fine, but then you get left in a barren wasteland of nothing. WAR has the content, right now, even with those announced cuts.

Fuck no, Mythic has been taking great lengths to make sure that WAR is NOT another generic WoW clone or a complete failure like AoC.

The main difference is that Mythic knows WAR is a PvP game. PvP is the real end game in an MMO, not doing a dungeon instance 50 times with friends. WAR is a PvP game, and PvE is the side. That is the main difference and assuring that the PvP is very high quality, they already have assured that the game is not a surefire flop like AoC.

I don't usually, either, but I loved PvP in DAoC. Sieges were fantastic. Big surprise that I enjoy WAR, then, eh?

For those of you playing right now, how tough is it on your system? I meet all the minimum requirements, but I don't surpass them by quite as much as I'd like. Between that and opening day server ridiculousness, I can't quite decide whether I want to pre-order this or pick it up in a few weeks when things are going to be slightly more manageable.

Not to take away from that screenshot but just to repeat for others:

Always take Scenario rankings with a huge grain of salt ... I've been in matches with tanks being on top of the list by far. It's not that they do more DPS but if they have good healers, they'll never die so by default they do more total damage. Also, Sorc/BW self-damage is calculated in their totals, too.

Doesn't mean I'm not happy when I'm top though! :)

It's a little tough but not too unusual for MMOs and better than most except for WoW. Definitely easier going than EQ2 or VG. The only time I personally notice any issues is in certain towns when there's tons of people and sometimes after playing for a while but otherwise it's pretty smooth (there's some slight jerkiness/tearing in their engine but that's not computer's issue, that's their end and hopefully they'll clean that up as time goes on)

It's not that much of a heavy hitter on graphics tbh. Just as long as you have a nimble enough of a card because there really isn't a lot of post processing.

I have only seen it once dip down to 20fps with an 2.66ghz core 2 duo proc, 5gigs of DDR2 ram, and an 8800GT. Most of the time it is up to 40-50. They have done a good job making sure that the game is optimized even when there are 50+ characters on screen.

Okay that's good to hear. I could run WoW reasonably well except for when I was hanging around in big cities. I'm sure I'll be able to live with Warhammer running slightly poorly until I can afford to upgrade stuff.

    Woe betide my grades.

    Well, you might be dissapointed.

WoW will look okay on almost any graphical level because of the art style.

WAR can start to look kinda iffy on lower levels, because of the more realistic style. But even on lower settings it looks pretty good. All based on your opinion.

    ugh ugh ugh ugh

I think they may have opened a tad too many servers...

First day of OB was great.

As of today, it takes...I don't know, HOURS, to get into the T2 Dwarves / Greenskins Scenario on my server, and I'm Order even. I'm not sure if the majority of players are above / below T2 on this server, but holy crap this sucks.
