Bay Area/Nor-Cal PAXers?

ArcoArco Registered User regular
edited October 2008 in PAX Archive
EDIT: A few of us in Reno have decided to put together an awesome winter party for everybody. Check out this thread for details: http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?p=7154542#post7154542

Everybody in Seattle and L.A. keeps talking about getting together for stupid parties and fun. What the hell, right? Just because they all live in one city they think they can find each other and have fun? WTF?

So, if you're in the Bay Area, or Northern California, or anywhere nearby close enough to drive there and hang out, post here. We'll come up with something totally awesome and upstage those assholes.

(BTW, I'm in Reno, NV, but I'm hungry for fun. I'll drive to San Francisco or something.)

Like this, not like the gas station.
Organizer of the Post-PAX Party. You should come!
Satellite Theater for life!

...You're willing to drive from Reno to The City?? Okie. Sounds good. I don't know when--since I work M-F from 8AM to 5PM...but setting up one would be good.

Nope, sorry, /post/ PAX parties are Seattle area only. But nobody's saying you can't get a head start on a PAX 2009 pre-party..

Tell that to the paxtrain people in LA.

I'm in the bay area. I've always wondered, what does one do at these outside of PAX meetups? Do we just find something to wait in line for? Or do we load up picto chat and draw wangs? If it's the latter, I must admit, I haven't have time to perfect that skill, this was my first year. ;-)

Yeah, I heard some good stories from some people I met who took the train up, perhaps that's the trick, hold the party on the train, just ride up and down the coast.

I live in Fairfield. It's like the halfway point between Sacramento and San Francisco. Think of it like some sort of way-station where you can visit and see how beer and jelly beans get made.

I'm in Oakland. I know at two other SF area PAXers, but they don't really follow the forums here. They might be into some kind of a get-together.

Of course we missed Freezepop (they were in SF on Monday), but we should keep an eye out for future PAX-style events. There are a ton of good places for meetups. The Metreon would be good for gaming goodness. Or have you been to the ACTUAL penny arcade at the Wharf? It's at the Musee Mechanique.

And if we bring our DSes and TWEWY along, maybe we can get some more mingle points. ;)

I'd love it if some people came up to Reno. I'm totally willing to drive to California (San Francisco is 3 hours, Sac is 2 hours, so it's not that big of a deal), but I would only be coming down for an event. Dinner, while it sounds lovely, isn't worth the drive. If there was a con, a show, something like that, or if we just wanted to do something really cool, I'm totally down.

Of course if you come to Reno, we have casinos. And other stuff.

Problem is I wouldn't be able to do any pub crawl kind of stuff so I think I may have to wait a few years for these kind of meet ups or just wait until next year's PAX. As for dinner on Saturday, my friends are coming down from CAL and we're playing rock band 2.

I'm not up for a pub crawl either, not my kinda thing. Sounds like most people posting here aren't coming on the 20th =[

Since several of the people are 2+ hours away, it makes sense that they're probably not interested for a dinner. I'm not all that interested in running out to Reno for dinner myself. That's just the logistics of the situation.

But I'm interested for the 20th in SF.

Is looking like the 9/20 might not be the best time for me either. Maybe plan for a little bit further down the road?

I'm ok with the Metreon idea, even if they seem to have lost some of the cooler gaming attractions. Pub crawl or something similar after would be fine, although I don't drink. Not for moral reasons or anything. Alcohol gives me headaches. Like, right after the first drink.

Honestly, though, I'd like to see if we can come up with something more creative and then find a date when all/most/at least some could be there. Maybe find a bank of machines at an arcade and do a tournament or something like that.

In all fairness, this could just be an obsessive need for a plan on my part...

Lunch in Sacramento is good. I'm also in Reno for work a couple times a month so I could be there as well. The rest of this month is bad though. I'm getting married on the 27th.
