First time poster in these parts. Just dropped in to commend Gilder for this awesome LP of an awesome game. This thread inspired me to play EWJ again on my SNES, and man, I forgot how frustrating this game can be at times. Even though I got by Tube Race on my second try without the secret air refill, I was getting my ass handed to me in Snot a Problem and Buttville.
Peter Puppy is Jim's sidekick in the cartoon but in the games he's an asshole. If Peter gets wrapped up in a vine, falls into a ravine, or watches puppies splatter on the ground, he hulks out and tries to kill Jim. I'm pretty sure nobody likes Peter in the games. To add to the hatred, he can also never seem to stick to a color. In the games he's purple, in the cartoon he's yellow, and on the title screen for the level he's white. Make up your mind Peter.
Tentacles!
Mysterious tentacles that are all over the place on Peter's planet. I think they come from some kind of space octopus.
UFO's!
These UFO's like to try and abduct Jim, but they only ever seem to catch his head. Maybe the suit is too heavy. In any case, all they do is stop you which is the worst thing that can happen.
I hate hate hate Peter Puppy. So annoying. Top notch video, Gilder. :^:
Also, I'm thinking that Dan Castellaneta is doing Jim's voice in the cartoon clips. If you've ever seen him in non-Simpsons appearances (Dr. Stein on Arrested Development, for example), his real voice sounds fairly close to Jim. Never noticed it when the show was on the air.

Wiki says he was part of the cast, so it's a pretty good guess that's him.
Indeed, Dan does do the voice of Jim. The british announcer voice is also the voice for Peter Puppy. Jim Cummings has already been stated. Professor Monkey-for-a-Head is Mr. Bighead from Rocko and the Devil from Cow and Chicken. I don't think I've shown any clips with her but Princess What's-Her-Name is the voice of Susie from Rugrats and she does voices in countless other shows. I don't really know Queen Slug-for-a-Butt.

I think that one has some of my favorite levels..like the food level and the blind cave salamander...hilarious!
Although peter puppy is much more annoying in that.

Not to mention the brilliant boss fight at the end of Anything But Tangerines...

These fish can really fly! No strings attached or anything. Amazing. How do they do it, and why? I have to call National Geographic.
Doc Duodenum!
Okay, finding any information on this guy is difficult. Even finding out his name was hard because everyone seems to have played the SNES version and they don't even know this boss exists. I'm going to say that he is a doctor of intestines.
If I remember correctly, Doc Duodenum was once the internal organ of a space alien until he decided he was tired of that and just up and left to follow his own pursuits. What pursuits were those? Why galactic domination of course. I don't believe there is much more information on him than that, though apparently the "Blind Cave Salamander" level in EWJ2 is supposed to be his summer home of some sort.
Knowing the Nintendo of that era, I'd wager they cut that level from the SNES version because of the whole internal-organs-and-probably-balls-of-shit factor.
:whistle:Don't you know you gotta flow, flow, flow pancreatic juice, flow flow, into the duodenum...
Nice LP, Gilder. I never beat this game when I was a kid. It was just too hard. I did beat the second one somehow though. And man, its amazing how entertaining the cartoon still is. Ben Stein as a three story tall demon. Classic.
Annoying little pests that, like the eyeballs from Level 5, quite enjoy hitting you when you're swinging so you can't defend yourself.
Hornslug!
Oh god, these are the worst enemies. It may be a sound glitch or intentional but in the special edition, these guys make a really bad buzzing sound. Just turn the volume down in the video until you don't see them anymore.
Snippers!
The final(?) one hit kill obstacle of the game. If they touch you, you get cut in half. One whip takes them out though.
The Evil Queen Pulsating, Bloated, Festering, Pus-filled Slug for a Butt
No picture available. The final boss of the game and the original "person" that the suit was designed for.
Haven't watched all the vid yet, but those Hornslug things weren't as annoying as you made them seem. Maybe in the vid conversion the noise they made became quieter or something, but I'm glad I left the sound on because otherwise I wouldn't have noticed the cow in the background, haha!
EDIT: Okay, Didn't realize you pointed the cow out just after that part! Never mind me then, hehe.
Yeah, on my end the noise from the hornslugs was almost deafening. I have to have the volume up at slightly higher than normal for when the video lowers it a bit and those screeches are about 1.5x normal volume. It's like a drill in your ear. At least the video didn't pick it up too well.

If it were released on a DVD collection tomorrow I would be standing at the doors waiting for the store to open. This was one show I never missed.

No no that's his alternate universe version.
It seemed so much longer when it used to take a whole rental to beat two stages!
It is in fact both.
Thanks for these videos. You are very entertaining, in a good way.
I never could get past down the tubes (genesis). I also didn't know about the secret air refill.
Is it me, or does Level 5 from EJ1 look like the last level of EJ2?

I have absolutely no clue what this thing is.

For Pete's Sake!
Again, good job Gilder.

...I KNEW IT! I knew Princess What's-Her-Name was voiced by the same person who voiced Sally Acorn from Sonic SatAM!

And that's it folks! Thank you for watching Earthworm Jim and I hope you enjoyed it. I am not going to do the sequel.
Good show, Gilder.
