Brittany Snow, who you might remember from Sony Screen Gems' PROM NIGHT, has been signed to topline in Senator Entertainment's vidgame adaptation Clock Tower, with Martin Weisz (The Hills Have Eyes 2) directing the production, which begins in November in Los Angeles. The story centers on a troubled psychiatric patient who witnessed her parents die and is constantly plagued by religious imagery. Martin Weisz, who is the third director attached to this long-delayed project, last directed THE HILLS HAVE EYES II for Fox Atomic.
Alyssa Jayne Hale (Divine Intervention) is in final talks to join Brittany Snow (Prom Night) in Martin Weisz's Clock Tower, the adaptation of the popular video game. What's so incredibly weird about this casting news is that Alyssa Hale is the character's name in the 1998 game CLOCK TOWER: GHOST HEAD, which was played by Rebecca Wink.
There has been a casting call for the project, which seems to showcase some of the major roles up for grabs. I'm spoilering this because it technically contains spoilers as to what characters' motivations are, how many lines/scenes they will play in, and what happens to said characters. If you are a Clock Tower fan, these roles may be important to you.
[DR. THOMAS BATES] is in his 40s – 50s and married, with a young daughter, he is a renowned psychiatrist who has finally given up a long stint in a maximum security psych ward for private practice. However, his new upscale patients are boring rather than challenging, and he jumps at the chance to dig his teeth into something more substantial. We later learn that Thomas, not unlike Alyssa, suffered a disturbing childhood, and lost his schizophrenic mother to suicide. As a young boy he had vowed to learn how to make the voices that plagued her go away. While he could not save his mother, he finds a chance to do something right in the life of Alyssa Hale...LEAD (9)
[ELEAZER BARROWS] 40s – 60s. He's a grizzled man with a terrifying face in a long black robe, usually seen with an antique pair of shears, he is a fire 'n' brimstone preacher from the 17th century, responsible for the hanging of a great number of "witches." He now makes his presence known to those remaining members of the Hale family, including Alyssa Hale and Chloe Bates...LEAD (6)
[SANDI BATES] is in her mid 30s – early 40s, wife of Thomas and mother to their six-year-old daughter, Sandi is a likable, nurturing woman, a furniture restorer who works out of the home. She's happy to have her husband working regular hours with more sane patients, irritated and concerned when he takes such an interest in the case of a young woman at the hospital. Later, she becomes alarmed when it seems that Thomas may harm their little girl...LEAD (11)
[DR. HENRY KAPLAN] is in his 40s, African-American, he is the psychiatrist resident at the hospital, currently treating Alyssa Hale. Perplexed by Alyssa's lack of response to massive medication, he calls in the much-revered Dr. Thomas Bates. He's taken aback when Thomas tells him to take Alyssa off her meds, despite the many traumas she's suffered...LEAD (3)
[CHLOE BATES] 6 years old, she is Thomas and Sandi's adorable daughter, a bright and precocious child who is constantly conversing with her imaginary friends. However, we later learn that one of these imaginary "friends" is an evil preacher, responsible for the persecution of many witches in the 17th century. Her innocent childhood is being shattered by a disturbing presence...LEAD (11)
[JESSICA COOK] In her 40s, she is the wife of the late Edmund Cook, an expert on the Hale family as well as an avid collector of all things pertaining to the Hales. She quickly opens up to Alyssa and Thomas after learning that they are both part of the Hale clan. However, she's clearly tired of all the "crap" in her home and is looking to move soon. She is more than happy to give Alyssa the infamous shears used by the notorious preacher, Eleazer Barrows...15 speeches & 5 lines, 1 scene (81) PLEASE SUBMIT INTERESTING CHARACTER FACES! So, it seems that a Clock Tower adaptation is in the works. I've not played much of the series (Limited Clock Tower 2 & Haunting Ground) so I don't know if they are being faithful to the material. I am always excited to see a videogame being made into a movie, but that sad truth is that the adaptation are usually sloppy and/or terrible...and with the guy that directed the really bad Hills Have Eyes 2, I am afraid this will turn out like many before it.

Even if they did get one of the proper Clock Tower games, I'd bet it'd wind up being one of those goreporn films the industry's been shitting out recently. Not that the games weren't violent, but tension was their chief conveyed of fear - that dreadful silence, knowing that he could be hiding anywhere, and that it was only a matter of time until he started to get bored and began his hunt.
EDIT: To answer your question, according to everything I've read, it's pretty much throwing the source material under the Shitty Horror Flick bus or, even if they are following *something*, it's the material from the worst game of the franchise.
I hope this will be even more hilariously bad than Clock Tower 3.
Shame about the second half.
I think the basic problem with movies nowadays is that everybody assumes that the movie must be one and a half hour long. A Clock Tower movie would work better if it was one hour or even 45 minutes long. Just get to the action and don't let go.
And by everybody I mean the no-good directors.
I recommend fans of the original game check out Phenomena by Dario Argento.
The amount of similarities is amusing. All 3 principal roles , the girl, the woman and the killer are ripped straight from movie to game.
Suspiria is awesome too and has a cool soundtrack but that's all I've seen of his.

I freaking love that! My only complaint is that the game is about a 3 on the difficulty meter and the final boss is an 11.
Hmm, it also occurs to me that CT3 shares many elements with Silent Hill 4, which I hated. It's as if CT3 gets everything right that SH4 gets wrong. Just my opinion though.
I never got to play Clock tower.
The movie will be a moving tale of a man who, due to a childhood trauma, is afraid of clock towers. Then one day fate calls for him to rescue a dog from a clock tower which has been lit on fire by local teenagers. He names the dog Big Monster and together, they learn that fear is only in our heads and if our hearts are true, we never have to be afraid ever again.
Starring Tom Hanks as the man and George Clooney as the voice of Big Monster.

My guess is Ma and Pa have run out of money to run the Clock Tower, and a fat man with a big mustache from the bank is threatening to foreclose it. So all the neighborhood teens will need to do all sort of wacky schemes and hijinks to raise the money, culminating in a final scene where for some reason the fat mustachioed bank man will fall into a pool and everyone else will jump in THE CLOCK TOWER IS SAVED YAYYYYY
