Good independents?

I'm kind of getting tired of the Big 2, and was looking to get into some more independent titles. So far, I read Mouse Guard (Fell and Desolation Jones, too, if you count those), but that's pretty much it. Anyone have any good suggestions? Monthly's would be nice, but they can be released on odd schedules.

    Fear Agent

I like to count these as independent.

Hopeless Savages, Creature Tech, Boneyard, and Grease Monkey are all pretty enjoyable.

Here are their wikis for some basic plot information: Creature Tech, Hopeless Savages, Boneyard, and Grease Monkey.

Well you can buy a copy for two bucks plus shipping here. I don't think it was ever put into any of the collections though.

    Invincible

It's a nigh perfect superhero book, and then it just takes off. One of the few books that I think is almost completely flawless (the link goes to issue 1, and I'll just add that the art gets a bit better as it goes on, though it's not bad at all to start).

I'm a big fan of John Woo's 7 Brothers, published by Virgin Comics. It's only 3 issues in, though, so take that with a grain of salt. Scarlet Traces (from Dark Horse) is also pretty great.

When he dies, I hope they write "Worst Affirmative Action Hire, EVER" on his grave. His corpse should be trolled.

    Demo is Way Cool.

Did you know it started out as an X-Men pitch, but Marvel rejected it?

Yeah, Demo started as NYX. I suppose it was for the best since Demo is obviously very good and NYX is also, in its own way, a mildly good read.

But yeah, Joe Quesada ought to be ashamed of the fact that he rejected something so good and then himself wrote something so inferior to the original.

Man, noone said The Walking Dead?

It's an on-going zombie survival drama and you should be reading it.

You can check out the first issue here.. http://www.imagecomics.com/onlinecomics.php

But you might as well just buy yourself the Book 1 hardcover as soon as possible. Just do it.

I've been thinking about picking up The Walking Dead for a while, but I never really liked zombie stories much. With the amount of praise it got, though, there needs to be something special about it, so I'll probably give it a shot. How is Robots vs. Zombies? I saw an issue in the store today, and it seemed like a really nice layout/art style, but it seemed a tad gimmicky.

If you like character driven drama at all, the Walking Dead is the stuff.

    You'll dig it.

I have not read Robots v. Zombies or even seen it in the comic store, but I'm gonna order it based on the art style alone.

Oh, a real fun indie to check out would be The Goon. Nothing but fun.

I was recommended Shaolin Cowboy, and it seems really interesting. Is the series done with, though, or do they plan on releasing more?

Manifest has an indy, or a couple of indy's. It's ok, fun and frivolous are words I would use to describe his work. I think there's like 3 issues of Journey into Misery and 1 of Dropkick Detectives.

Why has no one else posted this information here?

The Flight Volumes. Those three volumes got me back into comics in a huge way.

    Oh yeah, Flight's great.

Also, Vertigo seems like a good idea. So far, I read/I've read Y, Fables, Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, and some of Grant Morrison's stuff (I haven't gotten to The Invisibles yet, but plan on it). Any other recommendations?
