I personally think keeping your tanking gear on will be better than using DPS gear, at least with the Northrend tanking gear since it has a shitload of strength on it.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Prot soloing in DPS gear is tits. STR is not the best thing ever, and defense is totally unneeded for soloing regular mobs. You will still take barely any damage, but you will kill things much faster.

I think I'm going to take the middle road and use dps armor and 1-hander with a shield (leveling prot). Would this make sense?

    Yeah, that's what I meant. A DPS one-hander, though.

Funny thing, even though my armor is tanking stuff everything else is DPS. I made myself a nice one-handed sword yesterday. Though I try to also mix in stuff that'd be nice for my tanking too. For instance my sword is: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=41182 My necklace, rings and trinkets are all dps and where I get a lot of my crit from. Even if you playing in full dps gear works, I think mixing it up a bit like I do helps for the Shield Slam damage. I really need to start collecting Titansteel for all those awesome items... the shield... the one-handed mace, the boots and helm. Yay epicz!

people were complaining about bladestorm? strange. I've seen it in action, and it is pretty nifty. also dishes out the mad dps. seems that more arms warriors are running around beta then TG fury ones, possibly because bladestorm already was pretty awesome.

It was good for PvE, but acts as a sort of self-inflicted CC in PvP. If you Bladestorm a mage, he blinks away, and you twirl about impotently. But, they threw the PvPers a bone with it breaking Roots and Snares, which was nice. It would be ridiculously overpowered if you could, say, intercept while still Bladestorming. It's fine how it is, in my opinion. And it's a really fun talent.

Well, they wanted to keep bladestorm as a damage dealing talent, if it broke CC and made you CC immune, warriors would just start using it for it's mobility instead of its intended purpose.

It looks cool enough that I have to imagine what Heroic Leap was like.

If I could find my CD-Key for Diablo 2 I could always run around with a Barbarian.

edit: I was having fun at the SW dummies Bladestorming around trying to hit them all a few times before it stopped.

So, is Cleave, or Heroic Strike better to use as a fury warrior?

There's a snowball's chance in hell that today is patch day.

As always, Cleave is better for multiple mobs; Heroic Strike is better with single target encounters (especially if you can afford a global cool-down for Piercing Howl and daze your target).

EDIT: And Heroic Leap is light-years better than Heroic Fury in everything except for specific situations in PvP. And it was fun.

I hope there's more good news for the Fury tree.

Hey, sometimes people don't make any sense.
    Bladestorm

Bladestorm is still a DPS decrease if used on a single target since it costs 4 GCDs, but it could be reasonably useful when you have some rage starvation.

What? Yeah, it "costs" 4 GCDs, and you get 6 in that span. Way to think?

the one thing about bladestorm, at least in pve, is that it does draw a ton of aggro. That's why most dps warriors feel compelled to pop retaliation just before or after bladestorm goes off.

If you're riding the Threat Cap Express, popping Bladestorm will probably net you several hard slaps to the face. Otherwise, yeah, it's probably not going to shove you right to the top of Omen.

Meh, 6 hits for weapon damage versus an MS, a whirlwind, an Overpower, and an Execute, or maybe a slam if one of those doesn't proc, seems like a small enough difference that it's not worth worrying about. At all.

Sure, on bosses, it won't do much in terms of aggro. Mainly on trash. Which, I know, is not exactly the most exciting part of an instance, nor the one to base the assessment of an ability on, but that's where bladestorm really starts sending up those big numbers, and lots of them.

You'd think that, but you would be wrong. Considering generally 90% of all pulls in an instance seem to be of the multi-mob nature, you're going to get a lot of attention. Generally what I'd do is, not use Bladestorm in Berzerker stance for one thing, but also using Enraged Regeneration right before you use it. Saved my ass a good few times. I also did something interesting today, I put on all my DPS gear, made a couple of new pieces too actually, and went as DPS for Halls of Stone, while protection specced. I did perfectly awesome to say the least, it follows the same argument that most pulls have more than one thing, so my shockwave+whirlwind+cleaving combo really racked up the DPS. Along with Devastate/Shield Slam and sometimes Heroic Strike. I'd generally see myself at 1200 or 1500 DPS. Not... ideal I guess for 79, but for Prot that's awesome.

Revenge isn't labeled as causing a high amount of threat anymore. Damage has been doubled. (From [ 9.3% of AP + 652 ] to [ 20.7% of AP + 1454 ] for rank 9)

Ugh, they upped the damage considerably at the cost of "and a high amount of threat" that was tagged on it, ie: they changed the threat bonus to straight damage instead.

edit: Also new Armored to the Teeth is 3 AP for every 180 armor making it a lot better than before regardless of not effecting block value anymore.

editx2: HURRRRR the above is inaccurate considering it's still 6 AP for 360 armor and I'm a retard.

Will still help threat generation, since they seem to be shifting warriors to generating threat more on pure damage than +threat bonuses. Oh also... there's something I tinkered with in MMO Champion talent builder. It probably wouldn't be good at all, but I wonder what it'd be like to play as this spec: http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warrior=000000000000000000000000000000203321205020212500300000000305050002505310050100300000

From what I've heard you still do white damage while bladestorm is active, I fail to see how it is in any way a dps downgrade on a single target.

also, the new prot changes this patch pretty much dealed the deal for me, revenge crits should be pretty crazy now, same with shield slam. While I am very tempted to screw around with bladestorm and sudden death, it's just too hard to pass up prot. :O

welcome to warrior leveling! It sucks from level 1-20, gets better at 20 when you get dual wield, even better around level 34 or so when you get whirlwind axe, then your golden at 41 when you get mortal strike/bloodthirst. you'll die alot though, regardless of your level...

Also, a warrior is heavily gear dependent, even at that low a level. I will admit it's not full on torture leveling a warrior without a Level 70 sponsering him with gold and gear, but it is rough. Things to get a bit better at 20, but not as much as you'd think.

Just remember, if there are 2 mobs, take a potion. Three mobs, run away. Four mobs, run towards the GY, it will make the run back marginally shorter.

They've appeared to be going the direction of eliminating stance dancing in general without actually coming out and saying that's what they're doing (in fact they've said the contrary, I think). Going full Arms, there's no reason (or very little reason) to come out of Battle, and now in Prot, there's no reason to step out of Defensive. Nice.
