You know what was pretty underrated? Clock Tower 3

Some of the game mechanics might have been a little retarded but it was one of the few games to make me absolutely dread running into an enemy

I have a feeling this may carry the curse of the movie in that it started out great and then went spiraling downward.

I thought the movie started out great, and then was pretty good until the last half hour or so. The movie takes a nosedive once they enter the church. By the time I got to the barbedwire rape orgy it was like it had ceased being Silent Hill and had somehow morphed into an Eli Roth wet dream.

    Thoughts so far

The environments look great but the character models are way worse than what we saw in preview videos and the like. I still can't get over how ugly they made Alex. And I don't think the developers know how to visually portray age at all. Alex is supposed to be 22 but he looks 52. And Elle's mother looks the exact same age as her.

    Voice acting is really good

The combat's... ok, but it's not as big of a deal as some people are making it out to be

    Seriously though, it's pretty

Also the achievements for this game are awesome and really rewarding for longtime SH fans

Once you kill a dog beast you get one called
    Eddie's Legacy

which made me laugh so hard

Eddie the fat psychopath rants about how he shot a man and then shot the man's dog and watched it chew on its own guts

So I bought all 12 episodes of Blood Curse and I had no idea it was a reimagining of the original Siren which is pretty cool but also makes me want to go back and try again to beat it arghhhhh

This is the old Silent Hill 2 trailer, just reminds me of how brilliant and beautifully metaphysical the game was. It was just so good. One of the best examples of art in a video game, too, I think. This is the story that should have been told in the movie.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21s45Yel5VM&feature=related

Silent Hill 5 is fun and very creepy and has a lot of the stuff we love from the series, but it just does not compare in any shape or form to this. Silent Hill 3 is a somewhat distant second to 2 mostly just because of how much I love the story in 2, how simple and emotionally powerful it is, and it's completely self-contained and every moment in the game plays out into the bigger picture.

I really like Silent Hill 3, if only for bringing my favorite story from the series full circle.

I like SH2 and all, but it's not quite my favorite. Maybe because of how depressing it was. SH3 had more of an optimistic ring to it.

That scene with him in the mirror is still amazingly photo realistic.

I say it in every SH thread - no game in the series (or any other game really) has come to close to matching how terrifying it is

unless you think "Possessed" was the correct ending, in which case the whole thing becomes double-fucked

The "Judgment" ending has some pretty interesting implications about the whole Silent Hill universe, if it counts as canon.

Also, the laser pistol you get for nabbing the "No Dogs Allowed" ending is just insane-o powerful. I am breezing through Hard mode.

I liked it a lot. Leaps and bounds better than 4. Better combat, better level design, infinitely better story.

Still not as good as 2, but then again, what is? That's sorta the SH magnum opus.

I've gotten all the endings, and yet there is still a mystery costume on the new game screen.

This is gonna drive me nuts.

    I think you could safely go 2 - 1 - 3 or 1 - 2 - 3

I know nothing about 5 yet, and I don't think you should really start out with 4
