Star Wars: Legacy (IC)

It worried them.

When the Empire made the Republic a distant memory, the Jedi Council spoke in hushed whispers, murmuring their fears of a past reciprocation. The universe is cyclical; in nature, in spirit, in the Force. Or so you had been taught.

At first there was nothing, it seemed only a switch from one galactic parliament to the next. There was no grand blockade of Ossus as some predicted, there was no witch hunt or extermination of your kind. One day it was this way, the next someway else. It affected neither your daily training nor your personal lives. Yet, for some reason your Masters distrusted the new man on top, Emperor Roan Fel.

There were drills, exercises above and beyond the usual meditation and focus rituals so common to you. Maneuvers needed in time of emergency, escape plans, route A’s and B’s for maximum efficiency in an evacuation. It was more prominent at first, but over the weeks and months the intervals became less regular. You barely thought about things outside the temple, there were other matters more important to tend to.

Then, strange things began to happen, like a small sliver that you know is there but have no idea how to find. The Council became withdrawn, your studies suffered from the lack of devotion coming from those whom you depended on. As your superiors let you on your own, imagination and fear slowly started to spread amongst the padawan ranks. The older students tried to step in and keep the temple calm, but without the guidance and wisdom of the Masters, it was a defeated effort.

Then, two days ago, there was a meeting for all students and Masters at the temple. The news was grim; two investigators had been sent to Coruscant to gather information about the new Emperor and ascertain his position with the Jedi. They disappeared.

They confirmed the rumour that had plagued the students for weeks; the Masters had sensed the dark side for some time. They reiterated the need for diligence, focus and calm. Hard times would surely come, but all hardship can be overcome through tranquility in the Force.

Today, you felt doom when you woke up. Like it watched over you and was waiting for some pivotal moment. You all gathered for morning meal at the break of first light. Sitting next to long time friends who had become family, you ate in silence secretly sharing that same sense of dread. Meditation did not come. Peace did not wash over you.

What will come on this day? Will it be like the last and the many that came before it? Why are the Masters nowhere to be seen? What is this tremble, this cramp in the Force that feels like the flow is tainted?

And why is no one talking about it?

{OOC: It is early morning, you sit at a table sharing morning meal with each of the PC’s. Take the time to chat, roleplay, get a feel for your character. The story will kick in when I want it to.}

He had learned to eat under any circumstances, a lot of them grimmer than the current atmosphere in the dining hall. At least this place was clean, and there were no bombs falling. Despite his gut feeling, he wolfed down his food as the hungry street kid he had once been. Old habits died hard, and he still hadn't learned to really enjoy food. It was still just a part of survival for him.

Between the mouthfuls, he looked up over his spoon and surveyed his companions. A diverse bunch, to be sure. All, apparently suffering from the same oppressive sensations as him. The whole hall seemed to be under the same spell of grimness this morning.

“Has something happened?” he wondered through a mouthful of food.

Being deep under water might be oppressive, but water doesn't actively seek one out to oppress.

Daniel had been on edge lately, as with everyone else who manned the Medical Bay. With the lack of experience staff, everyone had to work to make up the difference. This has lead to low morale that also contributed to the staff shortage. His sleep showed the same stress; nightmares, the same ones he had when he started to become aware of the Force. Except this time, they were vivid enough to make out the hazy figures he had first witnessed. It was not enough to make out what they said, though.

Daniel contemplated his next words carefully. The last thing he wanted to do was to snap at anyone, especially Krema.

"The way you describe it, Krema, you make it seem passive. I don't feel it that way. It feels more like an active entity that's been building up this doom and gloom over time; ever since Roan became Emperor, really. It seems like it's chosen sometime very soon to be released. And whatever form that release will take, we should prepare ourselves for something most fierce and awesome."

"Fierce and awesome...?" Yes, Daniel. Let's make it sound as dramatic as possible; scare the shit out of everyone. *sigh*

Daniel then remember something. Did anyone know the status of the Temple at Coruscant? Was that what caused this feeling of impending doom?

"Hey. Does anyone what the status of the Temple at Coruscant is? That might of been the thing that happened, Kynn."

'Oppressive. Under water. Fierce and awesome'. Had it not been for his Jedi training, Kynn would have been angry. Prophecies of impending doom from teenagers and trainees seemed pretentious to him. As it was, he merely looked up from the few, decimated remains of his porridge and smiled.

“When did the Jedi start to crow like doomsday prophets?”

He kept eating as he talked “I'm certain if anything happened to the temple at Coruscant, we would be told. I wouldn't worry too much. The masters are here. This is the strongest Jedi presence in the galaxy.

“Still, if you're still worried, I'll go ask one of the seniors. Find out if anything is going on”, he added, finishing his breakfast.

A meaty hand swatted the back of Krema's head.

"D-d-d-d-d-id that f-f-f-f feel wrong, Krema?" Kylar said, laughing as he and his friends strode past the table. He had always been a bully, and his training as a Padawan had done little to soften him over the years. He was particularly cruel to Krema.

Most the of the others students gave Kylar a wide berth, though he was human he was almost as burly as a Gamorrean on adrenaline. Kylar stopped and leaned onto the table, his friends still laughing behind him.

"We all feel it, but those of us who can actually use the Force properly can control our fear. Stick to computers, datajack."

Kylar reached out and ground his knuckles into Krema's skull and shuffled them back and forth through his hair. "Force be with you, girlies."

    Kynn

Kynn had seen hardened men crumple – shrink in on themselves – in dark rooms when he could still count all his years on his fingers. He had only recently suppressed the nightmares, the images of hollow eyes, the broken bodies, the ruined faces and minds. The hoarse screams of prolonged torture as he stood by the interrogator telling truths from lies.

He had projected those images on the bigger youth during his first months in the academy, when the bully tried to have Kynn join his posse, and Kynn “explained” to him their differences. Kylar and he had never seen eye-to-eye since then. Kynn didn't mind.

“Those of us who can actually use the Force do not need to prove our strength, Kylar. Only scared and cowardly dogs bark the way you do”. The attention of the big kid on him, Kynn extended his mind into his, speaking without words. 'And you reek of fear. Brother'.

Kylar folded his arms over his chest, his weasly grin fading some. There was no response either with his mouth or his mind. There was little doubt he lacked the talent to do the latter.

He forced a chuckle and turned to leave, his posse of ingrates in tow.

Outside, through massive slanted bay windows that overlooked the Temple grounds of serene walkways through heavy jungle, dark clouds gathered in the sky above. Light patters of rain peppered the panes of heavy glass, first gentle splatters then moments later turning into tiny rivers that spindled down.

Inside, it was mostly quiet, odd for the large gathering of over one hundred students. Everyone continued with their meals, chatting quietly over spoonfuls of thick porridge and mouthfuls of toast.

A rumble of thunder echoed from the distance.

Again, Kynn wondered why they let people like Kylar into the academy. 'Better here than out there, he supposed. 'At least here, they can control him, and try to turn him to a better person'. He realized that was probably the reason they had taken in him as well. He was thankful for that.

“Never mind Kylar. You beat him at swordplay anyway”. Getting to his feet – always one of the first to finish – he looked around at the huddled masses. “I'm going to find one of the seniors and see if anything concrete has actually happened. Any of you want to come along?”

After packing away their dishes and dropping them off at the counter, the three young padawans wandered out of the meal lounge and made their way down the long, windowed halls.

The sky was overcast by heavy clouds and rain that was a mere sprinkle moments earlier, poured down the glass, blanketing the serene view with distorted images.

The long corridor eventually led to an intersection. Straight ahead was the way to the physical training grounds, where combat and physical fitness were put to the test with obstacle courses and sparring rings. A left turn was an exit out onto the grounds, giving way to a beautiful park where many went to find solitute and meditation. Even with heavy rain, the sounds of native jungle animals could be heard through the glass. A right turn led to the open plaza where a myriad of hallways branched off of the central hub.

The plaza was an open area with benches, balconies and marble flooring. Statues adorned the the circular room, paying homage to those Jedi from the past who made a tremendous difference in the galaxy. Not surprising, Luke Skywalker was one of the statues, the image of which cast him when he was much younger, posing as though looking off at a distant star. The Skywalker line was still at the academy, and of his descentants one was a Apprentice named Cade.

It was meant to be inspirational, no doubt, to the young Padawans. Several older students of all races and both gender gathered around this room. Many of these students answered to one Master, having become Apprentices through dedication and patience.

They acknowledged the passing of the three Padawans. They seemed troubled, speaking quietly in the plaza with concerned looks on their faces.

One in particular, a student who was exceptionally kind to the younger pupils, bowed slightly and shot the three a gentle smile.

"Where are you three off to this morning? I can give you a heads up, morning physical training is cancelled, so you'll have some time to yourselves," Yujin said. His firey red hair was matted with water, his robes soaked from an obvious jaunt in the rain.

"Well, I'm not exactly privy to that infor-"

There was a rumble like thunder, a tremor rippling beneath the temple to accompany the tremendous cacaphony. Yujin glanced back at the other Apprentices, nodding at each of them.

Something tasted like bile, but it was not a physical sense, rather, something in the Force tasted rotten. The Apprentices felt it, the Padawans felt it.

And then thunder rumbled again, but this time it was followed by a billowing, orange cloud crested by wafts of dark grey smoke. At the far end of the hall, the door to the Masters Councilroom slid open and a company of Jedi with glowing lightsabers ran down the hall.

"Apprentices, gather the Padawan's, get them to the Hangar and start the evacuation, we've all planned for this. Go!"

The Jedi rounded the corner, all heading in the direction of the blasts to the West at the Gardens. Fire ravaged the once serene jungle. The whine of rockets could be heard as Apprentices scattered, frantically gathering younger students. Explosions rocked the temple in a series of timed hits.

"You three, with me. We're going to the hangar, no time to gather your things. You stay with me at all times, do not leave my sight, understand?" Yujin shouted above the roar.

He turned on his heels and unclipped his lightsaber, activating it before shouting. "Follow me!"

Waric Bendix cursed under his breath as he loaded the last box of lightsaber crystals onto the repulsorlift cart crushing his pinky in the process. Without really thinking about it, he reached into himself shunting the pain aside, but the force felt odd today like someone was twisting it around him in a tangled web.

"They need to fix that damned loading droid agin eh girl?" he said. There ya go Waric..talking to your ship again. No wonder they think you're crazy

    Who thinks your crazy?

    Shut Up

"At least they can't hear what I'm thinking Mag"

Mag was short for his ship The Magnificent Bastard, a lightly upgraded Ghtroc Light Freighter.

He heard a brief sound from his cockpit.

Who would be jamming me on Ossus

And then he felt it...like a vomit in the force...wrenching the twisted strands around his vody...and then he vomited.

Pulling himself together as his ears registered the all too familiar sound of concussion missile impacts outside the hangar he rushed to the Bastard's cockpit flipping a series of switches to override the jamming...

(OOC: Rolling to enable Sensors http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=817403 and apparently I suck at sensors and punched the console)

    "MAG! WORK DAMN YOU!"

Punching the sensor console in frustration he quickly flipped another series of switches putting his ship through it's pre-flight startup checks and ran outside...

The noise was deafening. Clouds of dust spewed into the air, sizzling with static. The smell of burnt ozone filled his nose. He looked up, only to see more missle trails and beams of hot energy tearing through the sky.

Kynn was probably one of few who had already witnessed an orbital bombardment from the ground. The booms were faint in his head, as he recalled the last time. He stood there for a few seconds, merely looking up. Enjoying the fireworks.
    "C-C-Come on!"

He had frozen up. Cursing himself, he tore back into reality and sprinted after his friends.

Tearing down the long corridor, the cacaphonous roar of exploding rockets and falling debris only accented the need for moving faster

"Son of a bi-" Yajin shouted as he dodged a massive chunk of roof that crashed to the ground right between him and the three students. "Come on, move your asses!"

Students joined the exodous, pouring in from different hallways, making a straight line for the Hangar Bay. Smoke and dust screened the hallways, cutting visibility down to a few feet. The Apprentices led the Padawans in single file lines, roughly one hundred students in all. The Hangar entrance was straight ahead.

In the distance, the glow of lightsabers could be seen somewhere in the burning gardens. Then, the whine of fighters replaced the blasts of rocketfire.

"Padawans, single file! Those who have pilot training, get in those fighters and take to the skies. Escort all transports out of atmosphere and meet at the co-ordinates preset for the evacuation. We'll see you on Belkedan, may the Force be with you."

As the horde of students filed into the Hangar, making their way to the transport assigned to them, an announcement came on over the comm.

"Students, the day has come that we have planned for. Do not be afraid, let the Force be your guide. Let it take you away from here and be your place of rest and serenity. The Masters will protect your escape and will meet you at the co-ordinates planned for the evacuation. Keep heart, and may the Force be with you. Always."

The comm clicked off. Then, a huge explosion rocked the bay doors, blasting debris and black smoke into the hangar. The impact was deafening, staggering the students who fled to awaiting transports.

The three padawans knew their ship, for they all were assigned the same one. The Magnificent Bastard.

They looked to Hangar Station 5 and saw the ship waiting. A field of glowing red lightsabers crept from the hole in the hangar door as the smoke cleared.

The Apprentices charged towards the door.

He'd had there names and faces memorised for months already. Ever since the Master's had informed him of the evacution plan and the role they desired him to play.

"The force will be with you" they had said.

They didn't say it would taste like puke...

He grabbed the datapad out of his flightsuit pocket and quickly scanned the list one more time; the same 10 names and faces were still there.

As he ran down the loading ramp he saw a horde of padawans heading towards the other transports. The odd one found a starfighter and hopped in. Three of them headed his way....

Let’s see, Kynn and Daniel….and Krema. Good.

He knew the kid’s reputation as a hot hand on the stick and felt a bit of relief knowing he’d have someone watching his six. Drawing his blaster pistol he began shooting randomly in the direction of the red ‘sabers. He didn't expect to hit anything, but if he could distract them some it might give the Apprentices a chance, and buy the young one's a few more seconds to reach the ships…

    Seven more….c’mon where they…

He watched in horror as the pilot drew a pistol and aimed for the red sabers. Instantly, he reached out with the force, pulling the barrel upwards.

“Put away the damn gun!” he yelled, sprinting to the ship and coming face to face with Waric. “They'll smack your shots back into your face. I've seen it done before. You have to fly this thing, because we can't. Go on, get in there. I'll guard the door”.

Thoughts rushed through his head. Who were these people? Red sabers instantly screamed stories of Darth Vader and the Sith. But the Sith had been defeated only one and a half century ago. That they had rebuilt already seemed unlikely.

Taking a deep breath, Kynn gathered the force in his heart, pulled out his lightsaber, and activated the golden blade. It was not his own, just a training saber. Still, now, it was his weapon. Breathing out, he let the force flow through his body, dropping into a low defensive stance.

'Now hurry up you lot, because I probably can't take on even one of them'.

Children, teenagers and young adults ran wildly to their designated transports. Some of the younger ones were screaming in terror, throwing up their arms as shields, tears streaming down their cheeks. Like an exclaimation point to the invasion, several blinding arcs of electrical light ripped across the hangar bay, enveloping handfuls of students who crashed to the ground, convulsing, as the energy ravaged their bodies.

The smell of burnt flesh was strong in the air. The energy was tainted, a dark manifestation of the elemental Force. Sith Lightning.

Screams of children echoed through the hangar, dwindling away as their life slipped from them. Dozens were dead.

The apprentices engaged the Sith, crossing sabers and Force powers in a massive duel. One after one, red blades cut through them like grass, their onslaught both tremendous and awful.

The transports were being loaded, but only two of the fifteen made it aboard the Bastard. The rest lay dead on the cold, hangar floor.

    The Sith were advancing.

Vii'let raced up the ramp of the ship, clearing it in two swift bounds. She could sense that no other padawans were behind her, no one alive that is. She could feel the vacancy that was her friends and fellow students just a moment ago. She was thankful that she didn't have to rely on her eyes to confirm such, it was a most unwelcome vision in her mind already.

Kynn grabbed her arm, assisting her inside. He slammed the panel to draw the platform up, and yelled to the pilot as he rushed to the cockpit. Only two... her heart sank as she realized that was significantly under capacity. She watched the horrible scene as the doors closed on it.

The force foul and muddled, she felt alone abruptly. During years of study and training with the Jedi, she never felt alone, how could you? But right now she did, and it was frightening. Vii'let rushed to join the others in the cockpit, a feeling of panic akin to a child afraid of the darkness.

The hangar thrummed with life as a handful of transports powered up. While many of the padawans had been slain, just as many had made it aboard the transports. The apprentices died saving the young ones, and with their last breath they bought the transports enough time to get going.

The bay doors, wracked by concussive blasts, still managed to creak open slowly. TIE Fighters soared past in the distance at blazing speed, circling like hungry dragons awaiting their coming meal.

The Sith pressed forward; they were fifteen in number, painted like horrible black and white gouls and wearing armour that seemed alive. Again, a massive blast of dark, tainted force energy sprung from their group, enveloping a transport just as it started to lift from the ground. Screams came over the comm system linked to each of the other transport, snapping and hissing drowning out the tortured cries. It slowly crashed back to the ground, stopped before even moving a few metres forward.

    “What the hell!”

His hand jerked upwards the blaster bolts intended to distract the Sith leaving seared divots on the hangar roof.

He opened his mouth to shout some smartass comment, but no sound came out. It was interrupted by the carnage before him as Sith lightning ravaged a band of padawans close-by.

No one else is gonna make it to Mag

He saw the com RX indicator blinking on the projection from his eyepatch. With a particular twitch of an old eye muscle he activated the com.

The RH-Wing and Magnificent Bastard slowly rose up into the air as Sith pressed their attack. Eight of the ten transports were rising, one was still on the ground and the other smoking from the electrical attack.

The dark Jedi split up after clearing the room of potential resistance. A red and black tattooed female Twi'lek stared at the pilot of the Magnificent Bastard and sneered as his ship sped past her.

Outside, the world was on fire with smoke and burning jungle. TIE Delta's tore across the canopy, arching high in the air before diving at the temple, firing their blaster cannons at the smouldering building. There were no ground forces or land vehicles involved with the assault, it looked to be like a smaller invasion than it had first appeared.

The Mag and his escort flew out into the early morning sky, soaring through clouds of black smoke. As the atmosphere began to thin, the young Padawan pilot spotted two TIE Delta's on his scanner, forming up on their six, screaming through the skies and gaining fast ground on the much slower transport.

"Sorry Girl I know you hate it when I do this to you."

A blinding light flashed and the blaster bolts screamed through the clouds to an unseen foe. Krema had fired blind, basing his shots on the trajectory laid out by the targeting computer. Both blips still registered on the screen, either he missed or it was only a grazing hit, not enough to take it out entirely.

    1.62km to target.

Suddenly, green bolts of energy burst from the clouds ahead. Return fire. Blazing blaster fire grazed past the RH-Wing, scorching black marks across her left wing as the young pilot rolled quickly to the left. The second volley caught Krema by surprise, crashing into this front deflector shields. Warning lights beeped on his digital display, the outer arc of his shields were down and the inner field was weak but holding.

The clouds cleared and ahead, Krema visually verified two fighters holding tight formation moving fast on his position.

The Padawan pilot squeezed the trigger, loosing a cluster of dark red blaster fire in a deadly arc at the incoming targets. Seconds later, in the distance, black smoke caught one of the TIE's and Krema could see a burst of flame envelop it. It spiralled, careening towards the jungle far below, exploding seconds into its dive.

Krema was distracted by the explosion, long enough to be drawn into an attack by the remaining fighter. Green bolts rocked the RH-Wing, the cockpick shaking violently as the impact obliterated a rear engine. Thick, black smoke poured from the crater left by the attack. The fighter slowed, retarded by the loss of a powerful engine, but continued its course, straight ahead towards the screaming TIE.

I will allow you to fire before changing course, however, you will have to also make a piloting check. Two actions, so both would be at -1D.

    C'mon kid, hang in there

"Mag to Three-Eight. I'm gonna make myself a fat juicy target. If he takes the bait, drop in behind him....you know the rest"

I hope you know what you're doing

I always know what I'm doing...I just hope this works

Reaching up again, Waric reversed his power shunt and punched up his shields.

"Someone get in that damn turret!"

He slammed his fist down on the lav/garbage dump. Maybe, just maybe the jetsom would give the TIE a reason to think something had gone wrong.

Krema was cutoff mid-sentence. Trying to interpret the scanners and display panels was futile.

"Is he ok?" panicked Vii'let. Realizing that feeling helpless and useless was upsetting her, she worked to calm herself. Reaching out with the force gave her other focus and gave her time to rationalize. She couldn't say how the fighter was doing, but at least Krema was not hurt... yet.

The pilot snapped her attention back to the cockpit. "Someone get in that damn turret!" Waric barked to the padawans.

The young Jedi looked at each other, and Vii'let knew then that Kynn wasn't any more experienced than herself. She turned back to the pilot in silent protest, but he simply glared at her before launching into another evasive maneuver. She stood there a moment, and then growled in frustration as she turned to find the turret access.

I got a bad feeling about this...

Grumbling as she climbed her way into the control chair, she surveyed the turret setup. Well, I recognize some of this at least. She hesitated briefly. This is a bad idea...

Activating the targetting system, she scanned for the fighters behind them. After witnessing a near-miss, she worried further. I'm soooooo going to shoot Krema. Eyebrows furled as she frowned, hoping that she'd get a very clear shot as the TIE closed in.

"This is a bad idea!" she shouted back towards the cockpit stubbornly.

Krema punched the blasters, letting out a burst of red light before pounding the agile fighter into a diving spin. He glanced over his shoulder, peering through the smoke billowing out from his damaged engine. It appeared the TIE remained undamaged, and its course stayed the same. Perhaps the pilot had assumed the RH-Wing was going down.

Ahead, screaming towards space, the Magnificent Bastard shuddered as the engines were pushed to their absolute maximum. It shook violently, the high pitched squeel of redline pierced the interior, adding to the cacaphonous roar. Waric held her steady, but the Mag was not meant for such ridiculous speed and even the stabilizers were not enough to keep the ship under control. Something would give if he kept it up much longer.

Vii'let crawled up the gun hatch and slid into the oversize gunner seat. It appeared that Waric had activated and powered up the cannon; it whirred with life and all the digital guages glowed. She peered out into the open sky, eyeing the RH-Wing as she got comfortable as she could in a mechanized chair of death. Krema's fighter was hit, Vii'let could see the heavy black trail of smoke spitting out from his engines. He was flying like a madman at the incoming TIE fighter. It looked like they might crash. At the last second, the padawan dove out of the way, firing his weapons but narrowly missing.

Vii'let saw an opening and squeezed the trigger. Krema was well away from her target. It was hard to aim with the constant shaking of the ship, but the computer autocorrected for it, or so it seemed. It wasn't enough; the TIE was simply to far away. Her shot zipped well over the incoming fighter.

    This was a bad idea

    Shut Up

The airspeed indicator showed a steady decline.
    380...340...320...300

He could feel the strain on the ship ease as the way came off her.

    Atta girl Mag...nice and easy

    295...290...285...283...

The TIE seemed to be coming up ALOT faster now on his sensor display.

    "Keep that turret spittin' girl"

Vii'let complied, opening fire while the shot was clean and Krema still closing in to engage. She tried her best to score a hit, but it seemed as if swatting at a bug, beyond her reach and doing little to deter the attacker. The TIE deftly evaded the clumsy blaster fire, Vii'let cursing and still feeling useless.

I hate ships. And blasters. I feel more vulnerable now than on the ground... oh this is pathetic.

Vii'let muttered as she continued to fire upon the starfighter. "Oh please please please please..." It seemed as if the dancing TIE was laughing at her, mocking her. "DAMMIT!" she cried.

The Mag slowed its escape, relieving the tension on the overextended engines. The speck that was a TIE slowly grew in size, its gain more noticable now.

Waric watched the jettisoned garbage through his live aft feed on the eyepatch. It spun in the air, clumps of waste and offal careening outward and then quickly down to the jungle below. It appeared that the waste debris was only visible between the Mag and the TIE for a few seconds, then it was gone sooner than it came.

Vii'let squeezed the trigger again, firing at the growing spot on the horizon. Her heart was in it, but her aim was not. The shot zipped way west from her target.

Krema doubled back in an impressive piloting feat, rolling as he pulled hard on the stick to even out in a rising path behind the TIE. He aimed for a half second and then fired, but the pilot weaved aside at the last second, not budging from his path.

Krema pulled from his dive and climbed towards the enemy fighter. Vii'let was more than relieved to see it, but the TIE was closing in fast now.

If I can't hit him, at least I can make it hard for him to dodge Krema... he's already on his six.

The Sith pilot was gaining fast. Vii'let could almost taste his murderous intent. It was like copper.

At least I can probably hit him when he's closer.

Oh, but we'd probably be blasted from the sky by then...

[OOC: Attack (14) oh my, a wild six! but that still won't hit anything hah]

Krema raised his position for an even firing line and let fly with his blasters. The TIE was close enough to taste, and when his shot struck hull, and sparks and debris sheared off the fighter's aft, the Padawan could nearly smell the smoke.

It broke to the right, jumping sharply to a higher position and dropped its speed significantly. Krema gained fast and passed directly underneath the fighter. They soared at even speed, the TIE directly over the RH-Wing.

Vii'let saw the TIE jump, and the gun followed it. She fired, somehow feeling that this shot was the one. It wasn't, once again she missed, closer this time, but still nowhere near where she needed to be. She was distracting the pilot, that much was certain.

"Great shot Kid! Now finish him off and let's get outta here."

Well...let's see who's waiting for us

Easing back on the controls Waric pulled the nose up a few degrees and quickly ran a sensor sweep ahead. Hopefully there wasn't a swarm of TIE Predator's waiting for them. Or worse..

"Girl!...nice work back there. Keep it up. If he's thinking about you, then it's all the more work for him to keep tabs on Krema. A little more practice and you'll rival Han and Luke on their famed Death Star escape holovid."

    Yes!!!

The TIE trailed smoke as it banked off target, and Vii'let was relieved. At least one of the padawans can handle this situation. She hoped that there would not be constant scrapping to escape like this, space travel was bad enough on it's own.

The laser turret continued it's flurry of bolts, keeping the enemy pilot on his toes and keeping him at least a bit fearful for his own hide. Suddenly there was a loud sizzling, the targetting holo distorting before her eyes and then winking out. Ionization creeping along the control panels drew her attention down, and the crackling grew thunderous. Vii'let threw her arms up to shield her eyes and face, twisting away from the panels, still strapped in the chair.

Those in the cockpit heard Vii'let shriek.

Several kilometers away, a handful of transports and fighters made their desperate attempt at escape. They hurtled across clear skies, their escort fighters keeping tight formation, but bogeys screamed behind them, swarming like so many flies.

Green blaster fire could be seen from the Mag, far away yet close enough to see that the enemy's firepower outmatched their allies. Soon, black smoke trailed behind the exodous, and tiny plumes of cloud marked handfuls of small explosions.

Comm traffic flooded Krema's line as Padawans... kids screamed for help.

"Small Blade 38, Small Blade 38, this is Tary... I mean, this is Wedge 21, we need help, they're everywhere... we can't hold them... I'm hit, oh God I'm hit... Krema... Krema... help us oh god help....

A burst of brilliant red light in the distance.

"Magnificent Bastard, this is the Golden Sun, we require immediate assistance, we are being swarmed by enemy bandits. Do you cop..."

A thick trail of heavy black smoke, glittering metal streaked through the sky as debris exploded from a burning transport.

Krema fired, his blasters shearing the left wing from the TIE. It rolled sharply, burning and smoking as it spiralled to the ground below. Seconds later, it broke apart in a ball of flame, moments before even hitting the planet surface.

The sensors revealed a single energy source, large enough to be a capital ship. No other signatures registered on Waric's system. It was 4 kilometers from the edge of Ossus' atmopshere, in the direct path of where the other transports were heading. They were being herded like sheep.

There was a scream from the turret, and Waric saw the incoming message from the ship central computer indicating that the gun had short circuited and was out of operation.

All moving together, five friendly transports still appeared on the sensor panel, and eight escort fighters had survived so far. The twenty TIE's encircling their entourage were tearing them apart, snapping at their heels to goad them exactly where they wanted them.

[Tranports and fighters are 4km away in the opposite direction you are heading.]

He heard the scream and almost lept from his seat.

"Are you ok up there girl? Answer me! Are you ok?"

"KYNN! Snap out of it kid. Jump up there and check on the Vee."

Reality seemed to vanish as time slowed for the Bastard's captain.

There's no hope there for them or us if we engage.

    Coward

The TIE high six careened into oblivion behind him and Krema's voice crackled over the radio.
"Mag, this is Small Blade 38. Gadget reads 20+ contacts at Right 6, four clicks. Suggest we bug out and continue mission. Will form on your Left 9."

    Time snapped back.

    Nope..realist

“Three-eight, Mag copies. I don’t like it anymore than you do. Form up and we will proceed as planned to the rendezvous point.”

The sparks died down as power was cut to the turret thanks to the failsafes. Vii unbuckled herself from the seat and rolled free and out. Shaken, she was glad that fight was over. However, they were now defenseless and there was undoubtedly more Sith, with just an inexperienced and damaged fighter for an escort.

Krema was skilled, for certain, but his confidence was shakey. Vii'let regretted how she used to tease him during training, since confidence and determination is all that can save them now. She slid down the turret ladder and her boots met the deck with a clang. Vii sighed and shook her head.

A few minutes on a ship and I'm already distracting myself with doubts... I need to calm and focus myself, I'm not some stupid little kid.

At least she was unhurt for the moment. She made her way to the cockpit, finding an empty seat to strap down in.

"Guess I overdid it," she remarked offhandedly. You're always in control.
