I need more info on Rock Band!
For starters, there is the Rock Band WikiPedia page that is up-to-date for the most part. The folks in this thread are more than happy to answer any quick questions you might have. You can also mosey on over to the revamped rockband.com and check out all the info they have.

Oh man, this game is awesome! But I'm stuck on...
Hold on! As usual, there are people out there far better than you that full combo "Freebird" on Expert while upside down on leftmode with their ear lobes. For the most part, you can find a gold mine of info and help by visiting the ScoreHero Rock Band forums and checking out the stickied topics and subforums.

So, what songs are in this?
This WikiPedia page has them all listed and sorted accordingly. The PS3 and 360 versions have a Music Store in it that allows you to buy/download the weekly DLC.

Hmm, I want to see the notecharts for...
Pretty much any on-disc song can be found on YouTube. If you want to see notecharts for DLC or simply want to hear the music, check out the Rock Band DLC Song Database page.

Fuck, PS2/Wii don't get DLC, right?
Sadly no. However, there is a Rock Band Track Pack Vol. 1 currently available. The second volume is supposed to come some time in October. It was announced in October 2008 that the Wii version of Rock Band 2 will allow for DLC albeit in a limited fashion (SD card streaming/swapping). The Wii version will start out with the upcoming DLC available at first and then retroactively allow older DLC to be available. Due to Nintendo's policy, Harmonix cannot sell DLC in packs or albums on the Wii.

Dude! This game totally needs...
Yeah yeah...we know. How about you go tell Harmonix what you want in the game via their Song Request page. Will they listen? Who knows. But with all the awesome they've thrown on us every week, there's always the possibility...

GOD DAMMIT! MY GEAR IS BROKEN!
Harmonix/EA/MTV have been nice so far and allowed people to RMA their broken equipment via EA's Support Site. However, the deadline for non-60 day reciept RMAs is October 1st, 2008 (this deadline is for Rock Band 1 gear in North America). After that, you need your reciept to send stuff in. Their live support line is at 1(650)628-1001, 6am to 8pm PST and automated 24hrs a day.

I'm tired of playing with these random retards...
So are we. This is why there is a PA group for Xbox Live folk. If you are down, throw a friend request at Rock Band PA and check out who's on the list.
  • Headsets aren't mandatory but it does make it more fun.
  • Before throwing game invites, send a message beforehand to negotiate what instruments people are playing.
  • Don't be a dick. This is just for fun.
  • If you're doing Battle of the Band challenges, it helps to add PA folks to your friend list to check out how you measure up with the rest of us.

  • Shanghai, China
  • Austin, Texas

  • Dublin, Ireland
New Features
  • Breakneck Speed - Hyperspeed mode returns, does not prevent unlocking.
  • Daily Challenges - HMX will release Battle of the Bands challenges to be ranked versus people on your friend list, your region, and then worldwide.
  • New Vocals Talky System - For the most part, talky sections are pretty much freebie sections as was the original intent. This makes talky-heavy songs far more fun than previously.
  • Online Band World Tour - Take your music talents on the online road and size yourself up against everyone else out there with your own band.
  • Drum Trainer - An in depth mode that allows you to learn how to play key parts of the instrument.
  • New and Old Gear - While adding a bunch of new outfits and accessories for your characters, they've also retained the old gear in case you don't want to change your look in Rock Band 2.
  • Song Selection in Band Quickplay - The ability to choose what song your pick-up online band is now up to a round robin system to prevent demented morons from picking "Welcome Home" again.
  • Playlist Creation - You can now create your own playlist (the limit is somewhere upwards into the 100s) in Solo and Band Quickplay. You can also select an entire album as a setlist and play the tracks in order. You cannot currently save playlists, however.
  • Band Creation - Aside from the regular tweaks that comes with bands (logos, mottos, stats, etc) you can also add online players as permanent members to your band. This allows them to jump in (uninvited) whenever you're in the Practice Space. If they try to join any other time, the band leader will get a pop up indicating that said player would like to join.
  • Disc Exporting - Export almost all the Rock Band 1 on-disc songs onto your hard drive (Xbox 360 & PS3) for use in Rock Band 2. The only songs that cannot be transferred due to licensing issues are "Run to the Hills", "Paranoid", and "Enter Sandman". The cost is $4.99 or 400msp. The update for this was made available Sept. 5th for the 360 and Sept. 11th for the PS3. The songs take up about 1.5 gigs of the 360's HD. To export simply go into Options from the main menu and choose Export Songs.

    Rock Band Misc.
Here are some Rock Band related games or upcoming games to look forward to.

    Rock_band.jpg
    Release Date: November 2, 2008

All versions minus the PS2 one will allow for one-time exporting onto the hard drive/SD-card via a code that comes in the package for use in Rock Band. Rock Band Japan
Harmonix announced that it would be co-developing a Japanese version of Rock Band with Q Entertainment for an exclusive release in Japan for all major consoles. According to Harmonix, Rock Band: Japan will be "the first US-originated rock music game to be heavily localized for the Japanese market". A release date has not yet been announced. While the game mechanics are expected to remain the same as Rock Band, the game will be localized and its soundtrack will include songs by popular Japanese artists.

    Community Stuff
You want to get all "MySpace" with this shit? Then head on over to the brand new RockBand.com site and register your account. From there, start dropping friend requests on some folks around here. Check out each others bands and have a look at some of the new additions to the website.

    Band Merch
Yes, finally you can make your own merch for your band. Anything from posters to shirts to figurines, there's a good deal of stuff you can make if you're a fan of your own fake plastic rocker.

Wanna get a better resolution of your band picture? Try this out:
1.Go to the picture in question.
2.RIGHT click on the make merch button.
    3.Copy the address location.
    4.Paste into a notepad document.
    5.You get something like this:
    LONG_HTML_ADDRESSE_THAT_ENDS_WITH_bandphoto=http://rockband.com/uploads/user-generated-content/somenumber/rendertron/pictureinquestion3000x2000.jpg

6.Take the address that follows bandphoto=. Paste it into an address bar and go to it. That should be big enough for ANYONE.

    Battle of the Bands
    • The main new feature is online Band World Tour. You can also take your band and challenge other bands via the new Battle of the Bands feature. Every day a new challenge will be posted on either the Tour Challenge or Battle of the Bands. As far as Battle of the Band challenges go:
    • Your band's score is measured up against another band from your friend list.
    • You can also measure yourself against your friendlist on Rockband.com via the Battle of the Bands listing.

I've got a Best Buy gift card sitting here so I may go get a points card and download Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magick tonight.

Also, they should get some Space Lord by Monster Magnet in this game.

Oh...and Dire Straits. Dire Straits is such an obvious choice I wonder why it hasn't happened yet. Sultans of Swing would be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Working on it. I linked it but all I can do is list the battles whenever I have time.

It looks like you can check out your friend's scores if they're your friends on RockBand.com. If it works like I think it will, then maybe they'll make it so we can compare against PS3 folks and maybe the Wii owners. So we'll see...

Silversun Pickups was one of the pleasant surprises from the bands I'd never heard of.

But for some reason, even as slow paced as it is, the expert guitar chart gives me fits. Nothing remotely close to failing, but I can't keep a streak up on that song to save my life.

For me, Lazy Eye is the one song that I had never heard before that turned out to be hella awesome. But those stupid blocks of notes mixed in everywhere means I wont even come close to FCing the damn song. Those are big time combo breakers.

It's a decent enough song to me, but the strumming wears me out so I rarely play it.

I don't alt strum and I'm pretty sure my up strum is borked anyway. I'm left handed and play my real guitar left handed, but have always played GH/RB right handed due to GH1 not having a quick way to turn lefty flip on and off so it was a pain when playing with others so I learned to play righty for games.

Anyway I decided last week to give lefty a shot with my shiny RB2 strat. I noticed right away with lefty that about 1/2 the time I did a single downstrum (upstrum for rightys) it would register the strum as me holding down the strum bar and just cycle songs all the way to the bottom of the list. I flipped it back over and tested again upstrumming and sure enough it would happen. Not quite the 50% of the time as before, most likely due to gravity helping it recenter, but it would happen. I should probably RMA it as the red and yellow frets are also a little clacky (more so than my RB1 start), but everything else is solid with it so I'm not sure I want to chance it. Ugh.

Oh man.. alt strum is suuuch a huge help in this game. It's really nice when you see the odd triplet in a long line of slower strums to not have to suddenly spasam your arm and throw your whole rhythm off, and some of the really fast streaks just wouldn't be possible for me. I don't alt strum everything but anything above a certain comfort level I do.

Plus De Luxe is supremely satisfying when you figure out the alt strum pattern/rhythm for the whole song. It looks really complicated, but all the chord changes just flow along with the alt strumming so well.

EDIT: I'm surprised you had problems with the RB2 strat. You could try your GH guitars, if you still have 'em. I'd definitely RMA the RB2 Strat, most people have zero problems with them. It sounds like yours is actually under performing from average. Much more reliable than the RB1's.

Aaargh I broke my 3rd whammy bar last night - man this pisses me off. Three guitars broke in the exact same spot because of the exact same problem and they never did a single thing to try to fix it... so now I'm stuck with a broken guitar and no RMA. Small comfort is that my RB2 guitar will be coming soon, but the fact that their products suck so much ass is totally inexcusable. Angry letter time.

Lazy Eye is such a great song. I almost freaked out a little when I realized that was in the game. My wife was pretty psyched, too.

Right now, she and I are going through clearing out every venue we have available. Having looked at the setlists I can see, we have a few new songs that we will (FINALLY) unlock, such as Painkiller and Battery. I think I'll just wait til we've unlocked all the songs til I get RB1 and transfer the tracks. I don't want to "ruin" the main game beyond what I've already done with DLC.

And I realized while driving in to work today that It Only Took A Day by dredg would be a fantastic song to have in this. It's short, so that's helpful, but it's complex enough to be fun while not being too easy or too challenging.

ARE YOU LISTENING, HARMONIX? DREDG WOULD BE FUN.

    ...
