Rock Band info via links
For starters, there is the Rock Band WikiPedia page that is up-to-date for the most part. The folks in this thread are more than happy to answer any quick questions you might have. You can also mosey on over to the revamped Rock Band website and check out all the new and cool info they have up.

Whats this about 20 free songs?
These songs will be available exclusively to people who own Rock Band 2 on the Xbox 360, PS3 and the Wii. They will be available for download on November 4th for the 360 and PS3 while they are expected to be available for the Wii in early December 2008. Please remember to register your code on rockband.com/bonustracks to be able to download these songs. All songs are masters.

Wait, PS2 doesn't get DLC, right?
The PS2 versions of Rock Band do not allow for DLC. However, HMX was kind enough to put out track packs. There is currently one volume available with the second one to be release in November 2008. To see what songs are on those track packs, go here.

What about the Wii?
Originally, Rock Band Wii was a stripped down PS2 port that was quite shameful. In Rock Band 2, you will have a mostly fully featured game with the only limitation being customized band logos and a few other things. Online stuff, World Tour, BOTB, everything important is there in Rock Band 2. Unlike Rock Band, the Wii version of Rock Band 2 supports downloadable content, and all existing downloadable content will be made available to Wii users over time, with 30 existing songs to be made available at the game's launch. While songs can be stored to both the Wii's internal memory and to an SD card, only those songs in internal memory can be played.

Oh man, this game is awesome! But I'm stuck on...
Hold on! As usual, there are people out there far better than you that full combo "Freebird" on Expert while upside down on leftmode with their ear lobes. For the most part, you can find a gold mine of info and help by visiting the ScoreHero Rock Band forums and checking out the stickied topics and subforums. Or you can just ask in this thread.

So, what songs are in this?
This WikiPedia page has them all listed and sorted accordingly. The PS3 and 360 versions have a Music Store in it that allows you to buy/download the weekly DLC.

Hmm, I want to see the notecharts for...
Pretty much any on-disc song can be found on YouTube. If you want to see notecharts for DLC or simply want to hear the music, check out the Rock Band DLC Song Database page.

GOD DAMMIT! MY GEAR IS BROKEN!
Harmonix/EA/MTV have been nice so far and allowed people to RMA their broken equipment via EA's Support Site. After that, you need your reciept to send stuff in. Their live support line is at 1(650)628-1001, 6am to 8pm PST and automated 24hrs a day.

I'm tired of playing with these random retards...
So are we. This is why there is a PA group for Xbox Live folk. If you are down, throw a friend request at Rock Band PA and check out who's on the list. Also, it helps to have a good idea who has what for DLC if you plan on comparing your tastes. We highly recommend you look at DLC Quickplay that way you have a concise way to show what you have for DLC. Have a gander at the second post for more community stuff. If you're gonna rock out with folks, these are some guidelines:
  • Headsets aren't mandatory but it does make it more fun.
  • Before throwing game invites, send a message beforehand to negotiate what instruments people are playing.
  • Don't be a dick. This is just for fun.
  • If you're doing Battle of the Band challenges, it helps to add PA folks to your friend list to check out how you measure up with the rest of us.

New Features
  • Breakneck Speed - Hyperspeed mode returns, does not prevent unlocking.
  • Daily Challenges - HMX will release Battle of the Bands challenges to be ranked versus people on your friend list, your region, and then worldwide.
  • New Vocals Talky System - For the most part, talky sections are pretty much freebie sections as was the original intent. This makes talky-heavy songs far more fun than previously.
  • Online Band World Tour - Take your music talents on the online road and size yourself up against everyone else out there with your own band.
  • Drum Trainer - An in depth mode that allows you to learn how to play key parts of the instrument.
  • New and Old Gear - While adding a bunch of new outfits and accessories for your characters, they've also retained the old gear in case you don't want to change your look in Rock Band 2.
  • Song Selection in Band Quickplay - The ability to choose what song your pick-up online band is now up to a round robin system to prevent demented morons from picking "Welcome Home" again.
  • Playlist Creation - You can now create your own playlist (the limit is somewhere upwards into the 100s) in Solo and Band Quickplay. You can also select an entire album as a setlist and play the tracks in order. You cannot currently save playlists, however.
  • Band Creation - Aside from the regular tweaks that comes with bands (logos, mottos, stats, etc) you can also add online players as permanent members to your band. This allows them to jump in (uninvited) whenever you're in the Practice Space. If they try to join any other time, the band leader will get a pop up indicating that said player would like to join.
  • Disc Exporting - Export almost all the Rock Band 1 on-disc songs onto your hard drive (Xbox 360 & PS3) for use in Rock Band 2. The only songs that cannot be transferred due to licensing issues are "Run to the Hills", "Paranoid", and "Enter Sandman". The cost is $4.99 or 400msp. The update for this was made available Sept. 5th for the 360 and Sept. 11th for the PS3. The songs take up about 1.5 gigs of the 360's HD. To export simply go into Options from the main menu and choose Export Songs.

    Rock Band Misc.
Here are some Rock Band related games or upcoming games to look forward to.

    The Beatles + HMX/MTV Games

Apple Corps (the retainers of most of the Beatles master tracks) along with retainers to the rights of certain members (Yoko Ono and Patricia Harrison) have made an agreement for an exclusive game that will encompass the Beatles' musical career. So far, it seems that this will be a standalone game but no other information has been given out. It is expected to be completed by Q4 of 2009. Several sources have already quoted the related parties that there will not be Beatles DLC for the current Rock Band platforms.

AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack
    Rock_band.jpg
    Release Date: November 2, 2008
    Consoles: Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, & the Wii

In accordance with AC/DC's partnership with Wal*Mart regarding their latest album exclusive, this one off game will only be available at Wal*Mart or Sam's Club stores. The PS2 is set to be priced around $30 while the other versions will be priced close to $40. All versions minus the PS2 one will allow for one-time exporting onto the hard drive/SD-card via a code that comes in the package for use in Rock Band. This game is basically a DLC disc with the entire Live at Donington set. Rock Band Japan
Harmonix announced that it would be co-developing a Japanese version of Rock Band with Q Entertainment for an exclusive release in Japan for all major consoles. According to Harmonix, Rock Band: Japan will be "the first US-originated rock music game to be heavily localized for the Japanese market". A release date has not yet been announced. While the game mechanics are expected to remain the same as Rock Band, the game will be localized and its soundtrack will include songs by popular Japanese artists.

    Community Stuff
You want to get all "MySpace" with this shit? Then head on over to the brand new RockBand.com site and register your account. From there, start dropping friend requests on some folks around here. Check out each others bands and have a look at some of the new additions to the website.

    Band Merch
Yes, finally you can make your own merch for your band. Anything from posters to shirts to figurines, there's a good deal of stuff you can make if you're a fan of your own fake plastic rocker.

Wanna get a better resolution of your band picture? Try this out:
1.Go to the picture in question.
2.RIGHT click on the make merch button.
    3.Copy the address location.
    4.Paste into a notepad document.
    5.You get something like this:
    LONG_HTML_ADDRESSE_THAT_ENDS_WITH_bandphoto=http://rockband.com/uploads/user-generated-content/somenumber/rendertron/pictureinquestion3000x2000.jpg

6.Take the address that follows bandphoto=. Paste it into an address bar and go to it. That should be big enough for ANYONE.

    Battle of the Bands
    • The main new feature is online Band World Tour. You can also take your band and challenge other bands via the new Battle of the Bands feature. Every day a new challenge will be posted on either the Tour Challenge or Battle of the Bands. As far as Battle of the Band challenges go:
    • Your band's score is measured up against another band from your friend list.
    • You can also measure yourself against your friendlist on Rockband.com via the Battle of the Bands listing.
    • It isn't in real time but the score meter shows you how your band's progress is going.
    • In a BotB setlist, your multiplier and leftover Overdrive will carry on to the next song.
    • Make sure you read the requirements and rules for each challenge.
    • You don't need to be in a full band.
    • The PA Band List
    • Interested in measuring up against other forumers? Friend them on LIVE/PSN and see who's gunning for top spot. All the scores are saved for the leader of the band on that gamertag. As such, only the leader of the band is listed since we can all sub in for other bands. You can also friend people on rockband.com via your profiles and tracks against their BOTB scores.
    Battle of the Band Challenges
Go here, check out the upcoming battles, and compare your scores with other people who are your friends on RockBand.com
Need a friend to compare with? Go ahead and start off by adding my profile since it'll end up being the PA-community page anyway.

Hey, about your OD path generator I mostly would like it for RB2 paths, but I understand that there's no way you can get those paths unless somebody sends you the files? I never plan on playing RB1 again and I never usually play DLC with a path unless it's for OMB or something, but I'd love to be able to go through my RB2 solo career with paths.

Have you asked ajanata for the paths?

EDIT: The people on scorehero who want you not to release it are bitches ;-P

I will release it eventually. It's not even quite finished yet (needs squeezing/tweaking etc.), but when it's done, mark my words, they won't stop me.

It's just not a battle that I want to fight right now when the scores I generate are probably a little off from being accurate.

I'll see if I can get ahold of the RB2 tracks. If I do I'll run them through. I'd love to have someone try out the paths to see if they're accurate.

Well I see no reason why you'd need to release the actual tool, but the paths definitely. To me pathing is just tedious and means I have to re-FC all of my careers once people post the paths, hehe.

If I do get the RB2 tracks, then I definitely will release paths, I think. Fuck ScoreHero. :) (Or at least the people who have responded, who I suspect are just the "aristocracy" who don't want to see their kingdom democratized.)

I know exactly what you mean - I did the same thing with GH3. I FCed something like 15 songs, then discovered the optimal paths site, and just had to re-FC them all.

I want to release the actual tool because I've always been curious what went into debr's optimization tool, and would have loved if he'd released it publicly. :P

    Note to the OP:

You might also want to include the fastest path to unlock all songs. I had asked about it back on page 91 in the previous thread, and someone was helpful to post a way to unlock all 84 songs by only playing 29 of them.

This would be helpful info for the OP!

In fact, here it is for posterity.

I've long since gotten all 84 songs unlocked so I can't test it myself, but I just can't seem to wrap my head around why the decade sets would be the only ones that would unlock all the songs without having you actually play them.

I tried it. I'm not sure if it unlocked all the songs (I didn't count), but it certainly LOOKED like it unlocked them all. Scrolling through looked a lot like the song selection when I entered the unlock all code.

Granted, it's easy for there to just be one or two songs that slip through without me noticing, but at the very least, it's certainly close. If I get energy, I'll count my RB2 songs tonight.

You can go to quickplay, sort by "Location", and then just look at Rock Band 2's main header and it will have the song count in parentheses. Still, even if it's only like 70 or something that's a major headstart to getting all the songs that's much faster than what everyone's been believing this time, which was the marathon challenge setlists.

That's actually really surprising that they unlock in that method for only those Infinite decade setlists, but I'm not complaining.

I just checked: I have 84 Rock Band 2 songs. In addition to those listed, I had played "Guitar Solos" in the Chart Toppers tier before I looked at that list, but I don't think it did any extra unlocking. So, at the very least, that list plus Guitar Solos does unlock all the songs, and I think it's safe to say Guitar Solos isn't necessary.

    Here is why it works:

In the Tour Challenge mode, unlocking a setlist is enough to unlock every song in that list. This does not seem to be the case in World Tour mode, but it works in the challenges. Since the decade challenges unlock the respective infinite challenges, this is enough to unlock every song. You don't have to actually play the infinite challenges, just unlock them.

It is possible that, if you have enough DLC that the infinite challenges cap out at 100 songs, some song might not get included in the list and not get unlocked. I don't think that's yet possible, though; I have almost all the DLC (enough to cap out my 00's infinite challenge, for sure) and the method still worked for me.

I'm a fucking terrible singer. I tried last night, again. Holy shit, I'm bad. I don't think there's any amount of practice or technique that can salvage my scratchy croak noises.

It's a refreshing feeling after a full day of playing GH4 to come back to this. So polished and clean and well-animated, jesus christ, what were they thinking when they did those animations?

GH3's animation was comically bad. It was like animatronic mannequins. More of the same does not surprise in any way.

I hear the menu interface is horrible too?

How awesome are the Presidents of the USA's other songs? I heard Lump back in the day and really liked it (and I thought its transition to Rock Band went well).

Are all their songs that good? Should I make downloading the pack a number 1 priority, above sleeping and eating?

In case for some reason you can't listen to those Youtube videos:

Dune Buggy runs big fun circles around Lump.

Rock Band is my haven. My sanctuary. My home.

I feel...filthy. Covered in the filth that is GH:WT. I readily admit that I am a slave to certain bands/songs, and the mindless homps at Activision/Neversoft received my monies because of it, but as I said in that other thread, if I could pay 100 dollars to have the non-rb songs from gh:wt recharted by HMX and put into RB I would in a heartbeat. I suspect the more I'm forced to play World Tour, the higher that dollar amount will go.

How's the recording studio thing working for you?

Did anyone make a "30 seconds of Skittles" track yet?

If the recording studio only uses the same sounds for the drum as during the freestyle sections during gameplay, then I can't see anyone actually making their own drum track to play without going insane.

The drum freestyle noises sound like they're coming out of a 60 dollar Casio keyboard.

I've only played it for about 40 minutes, just the first three solo guitar sets, so the first 9 songs. That's all I've done. Goal #1 is to find out if the Tool songs validate the spending of my hard-earned money. If they do not...then there may be blood. Goal #2 is to find a way, any way, to make me actually want to play the game long enough to get through the songs I'm interested in. Maybe vocals will work, I dunno...I just hate the way it feels to play a guitar track in this game. It just feels wrong compared to RB.

So, this weekend we had a 12 hour RB2 birthday marathon! Complete with lasers and fog machine.

Question though...for the PS3. It seemed to us that with all the instruments hooked up that our instruments were less responsive. I kept missing notes and our drummer said he regularly lost his combo and had a hard time making the hit for the Rock Endings. But after everyone left I didn't have that problem, and he didn't have it when he went home.

    Anyone else have similar experiences?

Though the RB midi drums sounds are better than GHWT's, it still frustrates me that these dudes couldn't create their own Sample pack or license something from Propellerhead or Native Instruments.

For reference, a "refill" pack of over 2,000 24 bit individually recorded velocity-sensitive samples is under 700mb. To create decently realistic kit, they could just use 8 pieces (3 Toms, 2 Cymbals, 1 Hi-hat, 1 snare, 1 Kick) with 6 velocity positions.

48 four second samples isn't going to break the bank or take up too much space.
