If you haven't already, I suggest you read 4th Letter's Ultimate Edit series, an edited version of Ultimates 3, with all the dialogue replaced. It's a nice way to keep up with Ultimates, without suffering Jeph Loeb's writing.

This is hilarious. That one panel with the Super Smash Brothers was great.
Gotta admit, I thought it would be a lot worse. Once you got past the preview stuff though, it was actually pretty compelling. A number of unanswered questions...

Well the last issue of Ultimates 3 showed that he was behind the Ultron stuff, but I honestly dont remember when was the last time he appeared before that
Before that he was in Ultimate Power for no reason at all, and prior to that he was last seen in UFF trapped in the zombie dimension with a Lovecraftian parasite of incredible power gestating in his chest, having previously failed to remove it.
So who the fuck knows how he's still kicking around. Probably not Loeb.
My biggest complaint so far was Kitty telling Peter to "stop being cute" or something like that. It just didn't seem like something she would say at all to him given their recent history and the breakup.

Yeah but that just felt extra bad I guess. Also I don't like the way MJ/Kitty/Gwen faces looked, I hate it when they don't draw them like real teenagers

But yes, when we last saw Doom, he was in an alternate universe, one of the Great Old Ones was about to hatch out of his chest, and he was facing down six cosmic-powered Galactus zombies, while the portal back to his home universe had just closed for a billion years.
When I saw the end of Ultimates 3 I was curious, but I thought they would explain it in Ultimatum. Hopefully they will eventually, and not just ignore it. Because I really want to hear how he got out of that situation...
It's Loeb. This won't be explained any more than he explained why Pyro was suddenly a rapist, Sabertooth had entirely different claws, Hawkeye is Bullseye, Jan isn't Asian, Wanda and Pietro are incestuous (were?), etc.

This seems like a giant middle finger to everyone who actually bought and followed UXM and UFF.
This better not fuck up USM. Bendis deserves to stay in control of that group of characters.
Yeah, I can appreciate using the Ultimate Universe to do things you can't in 616 like killing mainstay characters such as Johnny Storm, but everyone who has (seemingly) died in Ultimatum was killed in such an offhanded manner that it really feels like Loeb dropping a bunch of characters to make his shitty apocalypse story seem that much more serious.

I liked Human Torch and Dazzler myself. I also don't get why Angel survived, but Nightcrawler didn't.
