I would come in here and argue about whether or not WoW is good but I'm too busy having fun with the sweet new quests and fishing my face off.
Last night I rode a flaming harpoon from the top of a cliff into the base camp. A guildie told me he was riding a log down a river over waterfalls and stuff. This new stuff feels like World of Disneyland (in a good way) and I've already spent too much time away.
I certainly haven't played every MMO but I've never seen one where actual player skill was worth a whole lot. Most battles were determined by "gear" and "levels" more than player skill. Maybe the first group of people that defeat some new boss monster have some work to do, then everyone after that just follows the script they downloaded from the web.
The most "difficult" part of any MMOs is finding a group of people to play with that aren't complete idiots or looking to scam or rip people off....
Puzzle Pirates says hi.
Though it's only sort of an MMO.
I'd still have to say my favorite MMO is Vanguard. Yeah, it was buggy as fuck and was missing some stuff at release, but dear god: Every class I played was interesting and fresh, it never felt like a class was just a rehash from another MMO. Crafting was difficult but rewarding. PvP was intense (though pointless outside of fun/griefing). And then they had the awesome diplomacy system.
All that + giant game world (though that's been lessened since they added in a bunch of ways to travel quickly).
I miss playing my Bloodmage. I used nukes to heal people, and ripped the organs out of my enemies to make into items I could give to allies that buffed them.

There will be Archaeologist and Scientist archetypes who will be able to advance in experience and abilities by doing mini games and puzzles and such. They will be able to provide kind of a support function to more combat oriented archetypes. Archaeologists can blend in and gather info and such while scientists will be able to learn and build new technologies.

yeah, you guys can play with your little gadgets and books while I blast shit with my staff weapon.
at first I hated eve. I thought it was boring as shit
then I got into a war campaign with the goons and suddenly the game became the bestest everest.
Planetside was just awesome and also completely shit at the same time. They need to release Planetside II. I'm so god damn tired of fantasy MMO's and also PVE.
EVE was cool... there just isn't enough time in the day :-/
Back when I was a freshman in college and I had no problem sinking 6-8 hours a night into a game, EVE was incredibly awesome. Now that I have a job and a girlfriend and stuff... yeah, no

This actually makes sense because if your fame and legend were to spread around, you'd have quite a good reputation for gathering a precise number of things, and anyone who might need a precise number of something would ask you at the first opportunity.

Ahaha man I just read the Front Page. Tycho's "Does It?!?!" post almost had me in tears. I was just saying to myself "wait what no it doesn-" and it just hit me right I guess.

How could you possibly be excited about another WoW expansion.
I honestly do not get it.
Because it's a fun game and people enjoy it?
No.
That is a goddamn lie.
People do not enjoy it, they feel indebted to it and themselves.
Actually, this is exactly what my friend said. He told me that he would feel like the last couple of years of his life would be wasted if he stopped working on his characters.

Yeah, if I ever actually make the jump and buy it, I am fucked

Yeah, this.
Sometimes, after a while of not seeing them I start to get the feeling that they're just doing it for the paycheck.
But then when drama or small exchanges like that happens I know that all is still right in Penny Arcade land.
