there was a ghost in Black Rock Mountain that gave a quest for BRD but you actually had to die to see him

and I thought I remembered specifically having to do a questline to be able see ghosts as part of Dungeon 2

I'm fairly certain the orb to see ghosts and the quests that existed from the ghosts was around before the 45 minute run. That's not to say that maybe there was a quest added in after the 45 minute stuff. But I remember doing the whole ghost quest orb thing before they did a lot of the big changes to those 5 mans.

The orb to see dead people was a Scholo quest line and pre-dates the 45 min run.

He gives you the quest to find they blackrock key.

There's a questline involving getting an orb to see ghosts around scholo, too.

I know the first quest you're talking about, it was for the key to BRD. I never did any of the Dungeon 2 quests, but I did do the ghostly orb quests at Scholo. which is why I don't think the two are related.

I'm surprised so many people did the t .5 quest. I had t2 when it came out, but generally, if you're good enough to do the fucking 45 min run, I would think you could have at least been in superior gear from ZG/AQ20 at the least.

Of course, y'all might have just wanted it to look cool, which was true for certain classes.

Assuming your not wearing greens to boost your defense then you should have enough hp and avoidance to tank at least the easier heroics if your def capped. I think I started with around 20k hp and I have around 22k right now. The thing to remember is that this isn't like TBC, where heroics were a pain in the ass, in WotLK the majority of heroics are pretty easy assuming you have a decent strat for the boss.

There is a quest on the Alliance side in Dragon blight that has an area full of undead and some Alliance soldiers trapped behind them. To do the quest you grab a machine gun and lay down some fire to clear the area for them. So much fun.

I don't know if alliance gets this, but the horde gets a similar quest:

Where you defend the breach with a huge gun that has two attacks 'shoot' and 'reckoning bomb'

The text for reckoning bomb is hilarious, it's something like this: "Unleashes the Reckoning upon the Scourge, inflicting ridiculous amounts of damage. Some might even say the damage is ludicrous.."

If that's the one I think it is, it's in Icecrown and is part of an awesome chain involving phasing for both sides. Going to spoiler it since some people might prefer the surprise.
once you complete it and some follow up quests, and then a new Argent Dawn base is opened on the other side of the wall named Justice Keep

That set was definitely the best mix of colors for that model, hands down. I'm deliberating going through all of it on my rogue just to have it in the event that they ever release any models or mannequins to store armor sets on (say, in the fabled player housing, mayhap?).

I never finished the questline, but the Baron run was one of the very first things you do, my guild was just starting to run ZG at that point, and AQ wasn't open on my server yet so the .5 pieces were very comparable to ZG gear. (We werent big enough to do MC or BWL)

A typically dumbassed vocal warrior in my guild has been crying about not being able to tank heroic stratholme, which I'm guessing is the real problem. He also said he wiped on the first pull of Nerub which I somehow doubt because that's a relatively easy instance (although a pain in the ass if you're not aware of how to tank it or mark it).

I haven't done H strat, but H Nerub is one of the harder heroics as the first boss, well the 3 pulls before him, are a pain in the ass if you don't have CC as they hit for a ton and one of the mobs randomly charges some one and goes untauntable and can 1 shot most classes if they get a backstab.

Leveling was faster when I just entered a zone and slower when I was just mopping up the ends of quest chains. Every single quest in a zone seems to give you XP, or XP+, or XP++, and there's only like a handful that give those + and ++ ones, so I would just get these massive XPgasms in the start when the quests are so much easier and shorter and then it'd wind down once I couldn't stack as many, and simply when they were taking longer.

I hit 80 as soon as I finished the achievement for quests-complete in Zul'drak. I also got that same achievement in Fjord, Tundra, Dragonblight, and Grizzly Hills. I did a few instances (handful, no more) otherwise. Leveling seemed absolutely consistent between them, not faster anywhere and not slower anywhere, just very slow when I was sticking around solely to finish the achievement and it typically meant having one quest -> one quest -> one quest instead of three quests -> new wave of three quests.

He does that in normal Nerub too. That's the first one that should be downed or shackled. Nerub is a pain in the ass itself to begin with I'd probably start with something else. I didn't mind old kingdom so much, maybe that.

Number of quests / level is probably pretty much constant through Northrend, both xp/level and xp/quest barely change between 70 and 80. So it all depends on how fast you can knock in quests... and I think that the flying mount helps with that. It also helps to be out of the starter zones, which were congested a lot.

I think someone said it earlier but AZJ is like... reverse difficult. That first boss and the trash in front of him is a pain in the ass and my healer is struggling to keep me up. The second boss isnt too bad if you stay out of the poison and the third boss is a joke. You dont even have to avoid the spikes becuase they dont even hit for that much.

I did Old Kingdom with a 76 DK in what seemed like decent gear (16k hp), but oh god was it a pain to heal (I'm shadow, but normally it isn't an issue with my BT/sunwell healgear). He wasnt quite crit immune, and damage spiked so awfully, and there is a lot of AoE'ish damage going around.

Also, explaining the first boss of Old Kingdom to a PUG is hard. Amazingly enough, everyone got the concept of the 3rd boss without any explaining at all (as the mage thought " Nonelites! MUST AOE NOW!" as we approached and it triggered the boss event).

I hear the final boss of OK on heroic is an absolute nightmare (To the point where it suggests killing off everyone but your tank+healer so that the Insanity phase is easy).

I really should go back and do those quests now on my rogue.

Someone copy-pasted part of the thread I made in the original official forums after doing the run (the OLD old forums, which have long since been wiped). I listed the gear we did it in, and the only epics were from earlier in the quest, BoEs, or original AV rewards. And it was a complete PUG; no prior practice. We did fine, 41 minutes to finish the event.

I also did a bit more research than usual, having mapped out the entire Gauntlet area personally.

Well, Tresjin on Kil'Jaeden being my original 60 paladin, Tresjin and Tresjynn on Jubei'Thos being remakes. I bought up several Elixirs of Dream Vision and used those to "run" through the Gauntlet, taking screenshots all over the place, and finally assembling the minimap images into a single unified map. Also had to keep track of where each mob was standing.
