I'm working on a paper with someone else due monday and I wont be able to get a hold of them until then - They sent me their half of the project in a docx format, which I can't open with Open Office. I doubt I'm screwed, but I cant figure out how to open it.

Help >_<

I'd love to be the one disappoint you when I don't fall down

.docx is Word 2008 where for whatever reason MS decided to change all their shit about.

A quick Google resulted in this, which you may or may not trust.

Microsoft actually released a file converter, available here. If you use it to open a .docx file, a dialogue pops up letting you save the file in Word 1997-2003 .doc format, which OpenOffice reads just fine. (My students are forever sending me shit in .docx, so I sympathize with your plight).

Well then that's a better solution.

My university recently switched to docx but it's a right fucking pain in the bum so no-one uses it. Some lecturers won't accept docx any more because they refuse to use the new Word.

The files were invisible after I saved them under a different format, which was weird. I had to the navigate to the folder through windows explorer, and move it somewhere else - that made it visible.

    Worked fairly well otherwise, Thanks.

OO.o 3.0 can natively open .docx, .xlsx and all the .abcx files.
