Okay...
My HDD had been misbehaving a lot lately. Bluescreening and such. After numerous dead ends, I concluded it was the s-ata cable. So I got a new one.
Things improved slightly. I am no longer bluescreening. However, my performance goes to shit and my hard drive makes little dying noises - like,
hey, I just stopped spinning dying noises.
Speedfan tells me my system temperatures are largely okay. At peace it's fine. At load it seems fine. The only thing I question is that my AUX temperature rises to about 62 or so. I am starting to think this may be the problem, as it is usually 42. Where is the AUX temperature reading from? Does anyone know? Is it the south bridge?
My perfomance logs tell me that my paging file is failing buuut I'm inclined to think that's more of a symptom than anything. After all, can't write to disk if said disk is not working.
I'm going to go into my BIOS on the next restart and raises my shutdown temperatures for the HDDs, just in case. But if it's not overheating, then what might it be?

I'm thinking... it may be just dying... or... maybe it's your power supply not supplying enough stable electricity...??
Just guessing.
If google doesn't work, you could try slowing down a fan in your computer, and if the AUX temperature increases, that's what the sensor is recording.
EDIT: You could also fiddle around with HDDScan. It might show something amiss. Maybe the automatic spindown time somehow got set to an incorrect value? Update drive's firmware? Update SATA controller drivers? None of that is very appealing though, because it wouldn't actually explain why anything was wrong in the first place.
Just go buy another hard disk. If it starts failing, besides RMA'ing it- Theres not much you can really do. If its developing bad sectors, it is very likely on its way out. Be thankful it doesn't just up and die.

Never had a hard drive die on me before. How traumatic!
Be glad it's not catastrophic. They can fail horribly or eventually decide not to even be visible by the BIOS. Usually you can find an inexpensive but decent drive. I prefer the enterprise 10krpm stuff though. Be warned, once you start using those kinds of drives, you don't ever want to go back.
