This is the relatively official thread for the newly localized Shin Megami Tensei MMO: Imagine.
They've recently added a ton of new updates. Mostly the incorporation of PVP and more Item Mall stuff to waste money on customizing your character's outfit. If you look around Babel enough, you'll get the impression Aeria must be making a killing on this.
As for PVP tutorial, I'm going to mostly shamelessly steal stuff from Aeria's FAQ:
H Scroll beware!
This crazy lady is the new NPC for PVP stuff. Talk to her and you can sign up to do some killing.
Well, you first have to meet her in Nakano. That's not a bad thing. Nakano is fun.
Once that's all done, there's two kinds of PVP.
Fate
5 VS 5 max, 3 VS 3 minimum. Straight up PVP Deathmatch. Kill the other team. Most kills at the end of the time limit wins.
Valhalla 15 VS 15 max, 5 VS 5 minimum. Capture the point gameplay.
The team with the most capture points at the end of the time limit wins. Of course, you can do killing in between, but what counts is capture.
Is it balanced?
Ha ha ha ha ha. Not even close. Gunners and Casters with status magic will slaughter you and tap dance on your corpse. But hey, you can try to prove them wrong. That gun won't do a Devil Buster any good when he's being bind countered and wailed on by a Melee horde.
So go forth and conquer, or something.
You can sign up and download the game here:

An RPG series focused around siding and/or warring with assorted religious factions via demonic warfare.
It's fun stuff.
The MMO seems to basically have more of that, and lets each player take a demon companion along for the ride.
But is there a plot?
You bet.
In the year 199X, Mankind faced the Apocalypse. A summoning ritual gone horribly awry resulted in demons appearing all over the world. In the resulting chaos, military conflict rose between America and Japan as General Gotou attempted to launch a coup-d’etat against the Japanese government utilizing an army of devils.
In the end it was a young hero, utilizing the power of a program allowing him to summon devils of his own, who saved the world, bringing forth a balance between the forces of Law and Chaos, rejecting The Thousand Year Kingdom of God and Lucifer, where people would be free to choose their own path.
This story, this adventure, takes place after the Hero’s journey.
In the year 202X, the city of Tokyo was destroyed. Those who survived forged new lives and rebuilt, including the enormous tower, Shinjuku Babel.
Since the tower was rebuilt, demons have begun attacking the populace en masse, and mercenaries called Demon Busters have taken it upon themselves to turn back the demonic tide.
And it's free?
It is.
It also allows for on-the-fly party creation.
The story is very reminiscent of Digital Devil Saga, but it's very core series influenced.
Combat is somewhat like Devil Summoner.
Click an enemy to attack, repeat for combos. Lots of options for defense and countering.
You can either go for one of three specializations:
Melee: focused on swords, clubs, etc. Your primary stats should be :
-
Strength: Attack damage
-
Vitality: HP amount, Defense
Skill benefits include countering, blocking, and special attacks like Dash and Spin.
Gunner: specializes in firearms. Your primary stats should be:
-
Speed: rate of gun fire, gun damage
-
Luck: critical rate
Mage: specializes in magic. Ranges from attack to restorative to support(stat), or a little of anything.
Your primary stats should be:
-
Magic: effect of spells, recharge rate
-
Intelligence: MP amount
You can try to mix the specialties, but reportedly, you're better off going for a main class, since specialization points are limited.
Another key factor of Imagine, like any SMT game, is your
Alignment.
Alignment determines a lot of things. What demons you can summon, how much they will cost you to summon, what equipment you can use, and even the quests you can undertake.
Alignment is variable for the most part, but there are moments that require you to make decisions that affect your standing.
The primary warring factions in Imagine are that of
Chaos(Gaian) and
Law(Messian).
Gaians (Chaos)
Gaians believe in the tenet of 'Might Makes Right', as well as individual freedom.
However, their perspective also tends to lead to the suffering of the weak, as well as general anarchy.
Their headquarters is in
Souhonzan, which can be reached by taking Shinjuku to Ichigaya, and Ichigaya to Ueno.
Messians (Law)
The Messians believe in strict order and a peaceful reign, following the example of their God(commonly associated with the Christian belief structure).
The downside of their belief structure is that they cast out all others who do not follow their way of thinking. A Messian lifestyle can be very inhibiting, and does not take those who stray from their path lightly.
Their headquarters is in
Arcadia, which can be reached by taking Shinjuku to Shibuya, Shibuya to Shinagawa, then Shibuya to Arcadia.
For those who don't side with either faction, there's always...
Neutrality
The Neutrals don't agree with either the Messians or Gaians, and wish to live their own way.
This is probably the easiest route to take(and one usually taken by protagonists in SMT canon), but try not to get caught up in the crossfire.
Alignment doesn't come into play for a while in Imagine, but it will, so when the time comes, be sure about where you stand.
The relatively official PA battle grounds are in Channel 5.
This may change based on server issues, but we'll keep you informed.
Our clan is (again) known as
BlackSun, and will incorporate people from here and whereever.
Message myself(Makenai) or Harmony in-game for an invite, or check the terminal in Home 3 to request one, and it'll be approved when we're on.
Include your PA forum name to help us know who's who.
You don't have to be from PA, of course, but it helps.
I'll keep the roster updated as people join up.
Alignments listed, where applicable.

40 mins more till I finish downloading the client.
Has anybody gotten far enough along to divulge what the fusing is like?
The instructor is named Snakeman, and has an eyepatch.
The site crashed after I put in all of my info.
Just completed training(and found Gilder).
Lack of fully translated intro makes me sad, but the story seems appropriately epic.
it's between SMT I and SMT II
Just finished the tutorial snakeman nonsense.
That's what I thought. The time line is off if it is a sequel to SMT II. This being set 20 some odd years after SMT I. While SMT II is set 50 or so years after the end of SMT I.
Lack of information is killing me.
1) It's made in JAPAN not KOREA.
Basically it's a get your demon pet and save or destroy the world storyline.
Not really sure what it's about.
Maybe someone who played the Japanese version care to elaborate more about the game?
I've never played an MMO before this, but so far, there's a huge emphasis on NPC interaction, and lots of quests to undertake, so it seems like there's a lot of content for people who go for a single-player campaign.
Parties seem to be for taking on larger enemies, but it results in the XP being divided.
The main aspect of SMT has always been convincing demons to join you, so you can pretty much convince most if not all of the enemies to fight along side you.
I'm not having much luck with that here.
I'm trying to solve the story quest involving the Leader Pixie. Isn't she supposed to be outside Home 3?
* Strategic Real-time Fighting System - Choose between attacking, parrying and defending in real time.
* Diverse Weaponry – Use a wide array of weapons from medieval swords to modern-day rifles and handguns.
* Devil Partnership – Players negotiate with devils to assist in battle and missions.
* Devil Fusing – Players can combine multiple devils to create new breeds.
* Private Dungeons – In addition to the public battle areas, players can access private dungeons to hunt and collect items with their friends.
(Space) Channel 5 is where all the cool kids are.

Same with the Cait Siths guarding that bridge.
We're going to try to rush it in a few.
It'd help if a Pixie would actually join me. Every conversation option I've tried results in them attacking me.
