Don't most of the guns except pistols have attachment points for mods on top of the barrel, at the end of the barrel and under the barrel? It's been a while since I looked in depth at the weapons, and I only just found my copy of the book this morning (moved recently, so there are plenty of boxes of junk lying around to look at) so I might be mistaken though. I think the Ares Alpha comes with one integrated, which is why it would be listed specifically in the description.

On the note of having found my copy again I'll work on the char sheet tonight when I get home from work and post a copy here. I've been using an excel spreadsheet in the meantime which allows me to pick basic skills and stats, although I need to brush up on exactly what is used for what.

Well I'm planning on running a SR4 game but after reading the source book twice I think I need to actually play a game in order to get a good feel for the system.

ok, I hate to be the green guy who doesnt know what he's doing, but I think I am. Would anyone be willing to help me get my character in order over AIM or somethin? I wont be able to untill around 4pm eastern today, but that would be great. Mostly I need help with equipment, with a whole new damage system I dont know whats good and whats crap.

I think I could get it all by myself, but I dont know if I could get it all by saturday.

I don't have aim. But, quick rundown on damage. More is better. The damage code equals the number of boxes crossed off, at the base of it. So a gun that shoots 7P worth of damage is better than a gun that shoots 4P.

There is also an AP stat. AP takes off armor. The higher the negative number the better. -3 AP means that your gun strips 3 points of armor off the target/victim/corpse. It doesn't actually take the armor off per se, but that armor doesn't count. 3 points of armor no longer matters when calculating the armor's protective qualities. If your AP score reduces the armor to zero, then the damage gets much, much harder to resist. Certain bullets can alter AP and damage. EX-explosive rounds are great for this. More damage, more penetration. With that oh so tiny risk of the gun misfiring and blowing your brains out. Its a risk.

Edit: Some weapons have S damage. That is stun. Stun damage is good for when you want the guy to be able to talk later. Or scream answers later. Whichever your character's preference happens to be.

Nope. 250 BP limit with 500 BP build. Limit is half the build points, IIRC. And I'm sure I do.

Yeah. If only to stop Lardalish from attaching a silencer to a Panzer cannon and calling it a "Sniper Rifle".

Pretty much correct Chrysis. Underbarrel, end of barrel and top of gun mods can be attached. But... some guns won't let you attach things in certain slots. These guns usually have the restricted areas posted.

I dont see a section labled Equipment, so what are those 70 points for? Guns and armor of course, but do contacts and magical resources count for that too?

No, I am willing to let you spend other BP points on contacts and magical resources.

The 70 points translates into money if you choose to allocate your points in that manner.

Lets look at it this way.

With a 500 BP character, the most BP you can have is 535 (with 35 points in flaws. IIRC).

You can spend up to 250 of those BP on attributes.
You can spend any amount you want of the remainder on skills.
You can spend up to 70 on equipment, spending one BP for every 5000 nuyen. Thus with 70 BP spent, you have 350,000 nuyen to blow on equipment, lifestyle, vehicles, and bang-bang. Lots of lovely, lovely bang-bang.
You can spend any amount of the remainder on contacts and magical accessories if you choose.

I am giving you many points to play with. But I think you'll find as an adept, those points will plummet so fast that by the time your done with character creation you'll wish I had given you 600BP. Magical characters drain BP like a mofo. The skills and abilities are cool. But man the cost is intense.

Design-wise, Why has it easy. He's just gotta keep track of his skills, contacts, and how much ware he can cram into his poor meat-frame.

Anyway, Devout, I don't really have a problem with you being a Mage. If it's a big deal, I'll change. If not, no problem. Anyway, I'm going for a more Combat oriented style of play.

If you're cool with it then I'm cool with it. I'm going to focus heavily on spirits/assening and I'm not even certain I'll be taking any actual Combat spells. It sounds like we're good.

t WHY, I was just about to point people to that program. I love it.

Be aware that it can only hold so much equipment. So if you buy a reasonable amount of ammo for a street sam you might run out of room and have stuff get clipped off. All this is as of about 6 months ago, I haven't really used it since then.

You don't have to take combat spells. But please take a least one combat skill. I just have this intuition. :P

I'd still say that you should bring some ammo to the party as a start. But should you find yourself running low after work, well that's when its time to ask the Boss for some ammo and he will pay for restock. Or should you be entering a potentially dangerous situation and you need more ammo and equipment, that would be the time to ask the Boss.

You're supposed to bring your own party favors, but once the party gets started, it's the host's job to provide.

I've been working on the character, and have gotten a bit lost in terms of what I need to buy, especially in regards to pimping vehicles and other related electronic goodness. I set aside the max that the spreadsheet would allow for resources (50BP or 250,000 nuyen) and have spent a little over half of that.

Here's a link to the spreadsheet with character details filled in (File is Luke.xls), anyone have suggestions on gear I'm missing?

    http://www.filefactory.com/file/9daf96/

Also have no idea if the link is going to work, fingers crossed.

EDIT: For reference I intend to be something of a paranoid. Eyes everywhere, walls have ears, etc. Thus I plan to not use wireless unless absolutely necessary, and so the implanted commlink will have wireless off and so will the drone and van. Theoretically the drone will respond to my voice and then follow my orders itself, while I'll jack into the van via cable.

Ok, Im trying to buy gear and Im not sure I under stand the rarity thing. If the limit is 12R (and I assume F is worse being forbidden and all) then its impossible for me to get a sniper rifle or a fake SIN. But the sample covert ops specialist has a fake SIN, and I thought those guys were strictly by the book.

Pg 84 second to last paragraph under Gear. I guess they also have a limit to rating 6 things as well, but I think most of them are above 12 availability anyways. Eh.

Shadowrun assumes you're willing to do illegal things. You don't have to have been caught (or even really done horrible things) to be a shadowrunner.

What happens to a military sniper after he's let out probably depends just how much ware (and what kind) of ware you've got crammed into your body. The easy answer is you were assumed KIA in some kind of situation where they couldn't verify the body count. You could have turned merc in a conflict the military approves of and then just walked away. I can't remember if Texas is part of the CAS or not, but it's be pretty dangerous to hang out in the country of the former military you belonged to.

Okay. I've looked at the characters and everybody's characters seem to be okay. I'll look closer over the weekend, but initial appearances are everybody's fine.

For Chrysis here is your car.

    Mitsubishi Nightsky XL.

Take a look at the pamphlet they give you with the car.

"Tired of the old Mitsubishi Nightsky, with its poor armor and lack of amenities? Then upgrade my friend, to the Mistubishi Nightsky XL. The new XL comes with tinted windows guaranteed to stop any peeping tom who isn't projecting the astral (In game effect, Laser Microphones don't work, the absorbtion rate is too high). And for those peeping toms who just aren't going to take no for an answer, well that's what the new and improved armor is for. The Mitsubishi Nightsky XL makes the old Mitsubishi Nightsky look like a sardine can. But let's say that tom had friends. Well you've got friends too right? And they can lean out the bullet proof windows on our new, flippible brace boards, or come out the sun roof and rest their method of dissuasion on the roof (2 points of recoil or movement compensation [whichever is applicable] and half cover for person shooting out of car). The Mitsubishi Nightsky XL comes with all the amenities we could think of. Portable satellite communicator, martini mixer, and a fridge, for keeping your snacks, that extra level of cool that just personifies you. Remember the Mitsubishi Nightsky XL is the car for you, because you deserve eXtra Luxury.

Okay guys. I am about to start the IC thread.

My first post has it at 8:50 AM. Ten minutes before the VIP (Todd Hemerson) starts his morning drive.

First post is a good place to introduce yourself. It's also a great place to say what you are doing to prepare for the day and what you are taking with you. If you don't declare you're taking it with you, you can't use it until we return to the mansion, or you find another way to restock. You are carrying what you are carrying.

And some bad news. Freejack said he couldn't make it. (His accounts apparently get shut down in no time at all). So we are down one decker. I'll be reopening the game a little, and give another player a chance to sign on. Edits will be made to opening post.

And I am using the dice roller Why provided. I will take Sunday and Monday to figure it out, but given the speed of PbP games, I should be good and prepped by the time anything requiring a roll comes up.

Oh initiative will be handled this way. When I type the opfor and NPC's have their turn. I will not type again until at least multiple PC's have typed their responces (sp?) and actions. Multiple Action rules still apply, just not intiative. You get all the extra actions your reflexes and any other bonuses give you, you just almost always move faster than the bad guys. Please type all your multiple actions in at once (if you suspect the bad guy is going to attack, then save an action or two for defense)

If you have not had your turn by the time I type, well then your character did not do anything that turn. I will be leaving at least 12 hours in between combat posts, to give people time to react.

I like how you answer the question before you saw I really asked it. I'm missing the dice roller the WHY pointed out but then I'm tired and need to get up in 7 hours or so. I should be able to start maeking poast around 9-10 EST or so.

Have you figured out how we're doing dice rolling? Some of my prep stuff needs that (That silly drain thing and such.)

I have a friend who wanted to play, I told him to come check in on this thread when he gets up. Dunno, how much he knows or anything, but yeah.

Also, I think Im going to like PbP because I can review my post and add details and such, lets me think over how my character would react to the situation. Only downside is I think it might be alittle slowpaced for me.

Oh well, heres to a great campaign!

So Lardalish told me to take a look at this thread when I got up, I'd love to play, but I'll admit the most ive done is flip through the shadowrun book. I saw a lot of interesting stuff and would love to give it a shot, and if that sounds good to you I'll sit down nd read it more thoroughly.

    Some dice rolls.

Summoning a force 5 Air Spirit for the day:
    http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=857711

    5 Hits.

    Spirit tries to resist!
    http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=857714
    1 hit

    4 Services until sundown.

I resist the 1 point of drain...
    http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=857722

    2 hits.

I want to summon a Watch spirit, with a lifespan of 2 hours each hour. If we're using the "Buying success" rules I can easily do this without incurring drain. I order them to hang out around me and tell me if anything happens on the astral plane.

If anybody can find a better dice roller, or even how to get that one that to sort the results please share.

Assessing test for the party and the surrounding area..
    http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=857733

    3 hits.

Also, aside from the magical lodge materials and changes of clothes, I don't see anything I wouldn't just carry with me. I don't exactly own much.

EDIT: I did the drain wrong. It's minimum of 2 DV, I still completely resisted it.
