Radiohead has never failed to bring me to an empirically measurable and verifiable conclusion. The scientific method, however, bores me with amazing regularity.
Like Freud, he still sticks around because people keep "finding" things that support him. But Freudian theory has an answer for everything, it's all fucking circular.
So wether or not he's right, it's impossible to tell
Frued doesn't do "psychology" so much as he offers a critique of human sexual economy. He does for sexuality the same thing that Marx did for labor economy. That is what most philosophers do: critique an economy. (Economy itself comes from the Greek word "oikeiv" -- to dwell.) They analyze the productions and matter of the places in which we dwell. Heidegger -- the dwelling itself; Marx -- political working; Hume -- the dwelling in just things; Hegel -- dwelling in abstraction; Frued -- sexual dwelling; Lacan -- the dwelling of sexual dwelling; Levi-Strass -- the dwelling within established ways to dwell; Derrida -- how much we can actually dwell anywhere.
It's kind of an abstraction, but I find that it helps.
Um, listening to a mgmt song and yeah Pods is very much correct it is basically Coldplay but rough
I can say that about pretty much every band. Contemporary rock music is basically Kraftwerk + New Order + My Bloody Valentine.
I can expand this genesis if you would like, to the droning of La Monte Young, the repeated cells of the California school, etc. Contemporary Rock music is pretty much a simpler version of minimalist classical music.
Man I haven't even heard any of the minimalist composers
I should really fix that sometime
I'd recommend Steve Reich if you want some hardcore minimalism. Phillip Glass tends to be a little bit too bourgeois -- he tries to be ateleological, but he always creates these little progressive melodies within the cells. It's awesome, and might be better to slide into minimalism, but Steve Reich is where it's at.
I think I have anger issues, writing the footnotes and bibliography for my paper made me so frustrated and angry that I put a dent in the wall from throwing my book at it >.>
Trus on

He wasn't a "psychologist."
He was a physician who drew his information from clinical cases.
Despite the errors inherent in single case studies, I do actually enjoy the manner in which he put forth his arguments. And he was really bright for his time. There are some concepts, or ways of thinking, that are used today, without ascribing to the theory. The ways of thinking are useful but the theory not so much.
Did you know he used sexual terms precisely to infuriate and cause controversy? Freud's sexual isn't really referring to sex. It's more like what we would consider sensual. Tactile pleasure, touching a nice puppy, etc. But he used sexual deliberately, because he was trying to essentially push out a brand new theory and decided to use something that would make people double take and then listen.
The good thing that came from him is that by using such controversial terms, he fired up all these people around him who went "What? FUCK OFF BUDDY" and then worked their ass off to prove him wrong.
He also repeatedly modified and readjusted his theory based on new information, so reading early Freud is not going to give you the full picture.
I still dislike the theory. But I don't dislike the man anymore.
I think this is what you said but, you confuse me sometimes. I really do have zero philosophical background, and you just use all these information dense words that make me go bwuh? :P
Morninglord on
(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
Radiohead was one of the biggest letdowns ever. After all the praise I heard for them, I expected nothing less than the second coming of Christ. What I got was generic whiny alternative crap.

I get really tired of this discussion, but yeah, so much failure.

Does anybody like Metric.

The group.
man, you suck at that
a better answer would be

On the other hand, CIA boys love them some Russian-speakers.
Well I could have been more creative, but I wanted to retain the original structure.
Sorry I attacked an internet forum dweller golden calf
Yes, Putin has been rearing his head over the horizon more often lately.
Apology accepted.
But seriously, radiohead? Dude even looks like HE'S about to drop into a coma, and he's the lead singer.
Fucking Europe
Radiohead fans look down on Muse right
I like radiohead but I only listened to them before I was aware I 'supposed' to like them
Que?
I like them both.
Well, that figures.
Makes sense though. Radiohead sucking and Muse being a goood band and all. I could see how there'd be fights.
They've always gotta be like "fuck you guys, we have our own thing now".
First the EU, now this... *sigh*
This is all new to me
