Hey-o, I got a package in the mail today that I can only assume came from my Slo-Bo. Hidden inside was The Goon: Nothin' But Misery!
Which is great, because I've head good things about the Goon, and have been meaning to look into it. Unfortunately, the package came directly from Amazon, and I didn't find any indication of who sent it (although I may have overlooked it). So, whoever you are, mysterious Slo-Bo, thanks!
Seriously, though, thanks Anjin. I read through to earlier today and really enjoyed it. I've heard people speak in hushed voices about Chinatown, always adding that reading everything-else-Goon beforehand is vital, so now I guess I'm on the path to Chinatown.
In some ways, actually, the sort of humor in the Goon reminds me of the humor in the Annotated Mantooth.
I've actually only read Bendis' Marvel stuff and just recently got into the crime genre with Brubaker's Criminal,
so I think I'm in for a treat with this one.
Astro City: Life In The Big City and Astro City: Confessions
I do, however, have some prior experience with Astro City through Tarnished Angel and Local Heroes, both of which I greatly enjoyed. I kind of forgot to pick up the rest of the trades, though, so these gifts are particularly welcome.
I'm really looking forward to reading Confession because I know it's one of the better arcs from Astro City.

Also, I'm reading Confession and really loving the mixture superheroics, the supernatural, and an extraterrestial invasion. When so many disparate elements can come together to form one cohesive and entertaining storyline, you have comics at their best.
