I thought Frost/Nixon was one of the best this year even if the direction was rather bland
The writing and performances more than made up for it
And didn't you see Milk?
The performances in Frost/Nixon were spectacular, yeah
But the writing was occasionally heavy handed, and the directing managed to make those moments even less subtle.
So it was still a great movie, just not good enough to be in my top ten.
And no, I have't seen Milk yet.

You should
Milk is a great movie
I think one of the best of the year
I would probably place this flick in my Top Ten of the year, if only because 2008 was a phenomenally shitty year for movies. And I'm not saying that as some idiot scrier pining for a golden age of movies long since passed, I'm saying that as someone that knows that 2008 was slim pickings for movies.
Just look at 2007: There Will Be Blood, No Country For Old Men, Juno, Jesse James, Perseopolis, Michael Clayton, Eastern Promises, and The Savages,
And what do we have this year? The Wrestler, The Dark Knight, W, Iron Man, and Slumdog Millionaire. These aren't bad movies and I'm probably missing a couple, but compared to 2007, it's slim pickings. Then again, any year compared to 2007 could be considered a bad year.
Excuse me if I'm not impressed. Oh well. There's no indication that 2009 won't be a good year for films.
I want Viggo and Michael Shannon to be in the same film. Quite anger meets barely contained anger.
It could also have Cate Blanchette and Tilda Swinton yelling at each other while in period ball gowns.
It would be the worst thing since Heaven's Gate and only I would be arrogant enough to call it a masterpiece.
Man you didn't even know Michael Shannon's name until I started talking about him
And now you're all frontin', tryin' to namedrop him like it means something
But you ain't bad. You ain't nothin'.
Bitch, I've known about Michael Shannon since Shotgun Diaries had a trailer. I said to myself, "Hey that looks interesting." Then, after his film Bug got me crazy mad action, I got on my knees and said, "Thank you Jesus, for Michael Shannon."

2008 did have a lot of great comedies though
I would see it if they released it in segments on tv, however.
Seventy-four, one hour segments.
Shotgun Stories, you fuckin' poser
Poooooossssssseeeeeerrrrr
the trailer looked so heinous
I'd say that Slumdog Millionaire is also better than this
have you guys heard about Franklyn?
upcoming British film
it seems really interesting but I had never heard of it until like 5 minutes ago
Here's the trailer
Hey Bogey wassup my bro
hey satan...: thinkgeek amazon My post |
what's it about
Poor people.
just watch it
I don't like really depressing things
which is what i expected to happen when i first heard of it
one of these days
a good steampunk movie
then i can die happy
there's a lot of funny moments
it was pretty okay
it didn't look particularly interesting to me for whatever reason
nah I want a live-action steampunk movie
Last Exile has already fulfilled the anime quota.
if only it was a better movie
Wild Wild West
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
(I can't think of any others)
Patrick Stewart and Alfred Molina were in it.
Also Anna Paquin as the lead, who was surprizing good.
Van Hellsing had a touch of steampunk in it.
but it wasn't steampunk, it was... Decopunk?
i must watch it in HD
It was just 50s-era sci-fi designs.
IMDb seems to be saying no
which does not make any sense at all to me
A Gentlemen's Duel
