From the gameplay video's I've seen it's doesn't look anything like Tabula Rasa's combat. It looks significantly slower, plus it's driven with a pointer just like every other MMORPG.

The fact that they are keeping this game under such tight wraps makes me believe that it isn't very close to done, or that it isn't very good, or maybe both. If they were having a spectacular beta process, we'd be seeing shit all over the place hyping it up. As it stands now, the only game info I can find online is severely dated.
Ouch. That's up to 64 days. I can't imagine that's good news.
I've heard that developers are leaving due to lack of, you know, payment. If they bail, their creditors end up with the assets, including the game, right? Hope springs eternal I suppose.
Anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if this thing dies before release.

It kind of had my attention when they mentioned "fighting for dominance of areas", but apparently that's market speak for "imagine that playing CTF is helping you to take over this planet (Which is actually a small death-match level like any other online FPS.) in the name of the SGC/Goaul'd".
Edit: The company that made Gods and Heroes died because someone in their executive department was a complete and utter frig-witted moron, who decided to cancel a game when it was gold and ready to be released after a year of beta-testing, and even more years of development.
Isn't this the same company that announced a Firefly MMO, then like a year later put it on hold to concentrate on the Stargate MMO?
Then again, Star Trek started with a tiny no-name company too...
Keep in mind that the same people who would let these guys have the rights to develop a Stargate game are, probably, the same ones who decided that canceling the current reasonably popular and well-grounded SG series in favor of Universe was a good idea.
The idea behind Stargate: Universe is, for the record, that it has nothing in common with the original Stargate series, in hopes that it'll bring in an entirely new fanbase in place of the one they have now.
As an example of the stupidity involved with the franchise currently, there has been some outrage and confusion from at least one writer of the current series, that the original fanbase of the series outright hates Universe for having nothing to do with Stargate. Apparently they can't grasp the concept that making a TV show have nothing to do with the series it's named after is not going to garner viewers of the original show.
Needless to say, the people controlling the direction of the series now aren't the brightest bulbs in the room.

Glassner is the only one of the original writers/producers who still isn't on board and he has been gone for a long time (he left at the end of season 3). The show left Showtime at the end of Season 5 and I'm sorry but if you feel like the show went "downhill" in seasons 6-8 (lets ignore 9,10 for now; no one on the show had expected to be renewed after 8) then Stargate simply isn't for you because the first few Scifi years were among the best the series ever had to offer, if not the best.
Yes, SG:U is of questionable content and quality; I frequently feel like it has nothing at all to do with Stargate and is constantly jarring whenever they even mention previous events in SG because they don't seem part of the same universe, and yes Mallozzi is a complete douche (this has always been the case if you watch any commentary on the DVD's on episodes he did), but it's a little silly to act like something magically changed with the people who run the show.

The irony is, several of the producers have complained in the past about how Showtime had pushed them to make things more edgy and mature (see original Children of the Gods); yet now with SG:U they're making what Showtime probably would have liked in the first place....purposefully.
EDIT: Also the cancellation of SG:A was a joint decision by all parties involved. The writers/producers were getting bored of the same old shit (and lets be honest; season 5 of SG:A was terrible, so that's a fair assessment), SciFi was getting annoyed that despite the increase in ratings SG:A had over SG:1 (initially at least), it wasn't bringing in any new viewers to their lineup unlike other shows like BSG, and MGM was getting tired of how increasingly expensive producing episodes was getting (despite heavy budget cuts in season 5) vs the complete lack of increase in viewership/revenue. They all wanted to go a different direction. Unfortunately that direction wasn't where, it would appear, the vast majority of old SG fans want to go; but it's not like SG:U is hurting for ratings and viewers. Many of us old school stalwarts continue to watch it out of stubbornness or out of loyalty. And honestly it's not all bad. It has its moments and it could turn into something really good. Whether it turns into a Stargate show at any point remains to be seen.

Battlestar Galactica was wildly popular, and is overall considered to be a good show. So why knock SGU automatically, simply because it's using a similar narrative technique?
The biggest issue of course is this: SGU is a *Character drama*, NOT a scifi action show like a lot of the fanbase wanted, I guess. There is nothing inherently wrong with it, it's just different from previous Stargate series -- hence why it's a new series with its own name.
The show isn't without problems -- but I think that has more to do with the writers needing to hit their groove with the new narrative style. I think some of the stuff is utterly unnecessary though ... like that whole club scene in Life where they kept concentrating on the club. Or the can of worms with using the Stones and having sex with their body or going out and getting drunk .... seems to not be any ground rules set for what you can do... Or just the random make-out scenes on the ship for no apparent reason.
If I had to make one large criticism, it would be having the communication stones at all. You lose some of the sense of being isolated and the immediacy when you can just pop back to Earth to visit whenever you want, or bring in specialists to help fix shit, etc. I just think the whole IOA stuff is going to write yourself into a dead end fairly quickly unless you want to keep harping on removing Young for umpteen seasons.
Also, I don't expect the best dialogue from a game, but it should be decent. I would expect something that is going to get a lot of exposure, like the trailer, wouldn't have writing that bad.

Hell, I think I would like a SG:U styled game. Not so much an MMO, but a game in which you get a random assortment of crew members/skills and need to survive on a derelict alien spaceship for perhaps a fix'd length of time. Heh, I guess you could say I'd like a Dwarf Fortress: IN SPAAAAACE.
Which, by the way, SG:U isn't Stargate Galactica, it's Stargate: Dwarf Fortress. It's only a matter of time before one of them gets taken by a "fell mood" and locks themselves in a workshop.

Space Station 13 is pretty close to a dwarf fortress is SPAAAACE, plus it's online. Just with less fell moods and more people knocking you out with a toolbox then transplanting your brain into a monkey.
