This MMO appears to be built to push all my buttons. Sadly that means it's guaranteed to fail. These kids today don't like my UO based sensibilities. :(

    I'm signed up.

This. DEAR GOD THIS. I'm looking at you Tabula Rasa.

    SCI-FI DOES NOT NEED MAGIC.

Yeah but psionic powers and ultra-advanced nanotechnology are always welcome.

Psionics no. You can keep it. Just magic by another name. Nanotech perhaps, depending on what it does. If it does stuff like Dues Ex then no.

What about the Psi powers from Neocron, if you ever played it?

I never had the opportunity. Please elaborate.

As an aside, if the Nanotech has any kind of particle or visual effect I pretty much against it in a high tech setting.

According to the developer it looks like we are in for "Sci Fi Magic"
Not in the form fantasy games use it. There will be some effects similar to magic, but they will have a more scientific origin. Of course, "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic!"

So instead of sparkly fires of magic... we get bright sparks of SCIENCE!

    Stupid one trick pony.

What is so freakin' hard about Rifleman, Rifleman, Demo expert, Heavy weapons team, field medic?

So what other party make-ups could people go with?

Close Combat Spec, Rifleman, Sniper, Heavy Weapons, field medic

Rifleman x10, Sniper, Artillery, Electronic Warfare specialist, medic (No one said you had to have parties of 5)

    Any other non-magic sci-fi ideas?

    Powered armor trooper for one.

For the heavy weapons, I would like to see it require 2 people to carry and use. The heavy weapon team could also carry artillery range finders, if your player association has claim on an artillery piece in range.

Fuck killing the medic first, hit that laughing bastard with the IR laser range finder.

A dev chat just got posted. It is worth checking out if you are interested in the game.

    tl;dr

Beta should be starting "soon", i.e. late Feb./early March at the latest.

Healing seems to based on shields and recharging.

They seem to focusing primarily on weapons for combat as opposed to psionics. Which does bode well for a good realistic FPS-like sci-fi combat.
