Need Help: Mass wma to mp3 encoding.

shadydentistshadydentist Registered User regular
Well, heres the situation: In my youth, I was super excited to find out that I could put my CDs onto my computer. Unfortunately, I didn't know any better, and now a great deal of my music is in the .wma format. This didn't actually affect me until recently, but now I have around 100 tracks I would like to convert to mp3s.

Right now, I have Audacity, which doesn't do conversions in batches. Does anyone know where I can find a program to mass encode all of my wma's to mp3s?

    Have you tried Mediacoder?

Also, as an update to my own question earlier (Whether or not the Zune software supports podcasts that require user/pass): Yes, it does.

Would anyone have any recommendation of a good flac to mp3 converter? I have these great songs but I can't seem to find a program that doesn't piss me off and if I'm going to fork the cash over for one, I might as well get a good one.

I found this blog that has some links to appropriate software.

I use WinAMP, but I cheat. I stick a thumbdrive in, tell it that the drive is a media player it should manage, and to transcode the songs into MP3.

It isn't a really simple and straightforward solution, but I use ALL2LAME for my converting needs. It's a simple frontend for the LAME encoder, so you need to download that too. For FLAC support, grab it here, and this will tag all the things nicely for you.

You just need to point ALL2LAME to where those files are located, and it's pretty easy to actually use; just drag and drop the files you want to convert, and hit Encode.
