Leitner, are you an idiot or just acting like one?

The Koran is no more awful than the Bible or whatever the fuck Jews follow (I don't think they call it the Old Testament, somehow...). The Koran is NOT the source of the assfuckery going on in Iran and Sudan and all those places. The Koran is being used as justification for those actions, just as the Bible has been used to justify the slaughter of tens of millions throughout history, but the SOURCE is humans. Humans will use whatever is convenient to justify their murder and greed. In the middle ages, it was the Bible. Muslims were relatively very tolerant, enlightened, and prosperous. The USSR used communism to justify the slaughter of millions of its own population, and that isn't even a religion!

The point is that disliking the religion because people do bad things in its name is stupid. You have to recognise that plenty of bad shit has been done in the name of everything throughout history. Right now, the evil motherfuckers are in control of countries that happen to be Muslim. Islam is not responsible for those evil fucks being in control. If anything, WE are; our many coups against democratically-elected, moderate, socialist leaders in the middle east and elsewhere led to backlashes against the insatiably greedy and heretical tyrants we put in power, and that caused the rise in fundamental Islam in the region.

There are many other reasons that religions are stupid and wrong, more than are necessary. Attacking any of them for this reason is stupid and false. Attacking only one is also bigoted and ignorant.
I never said that the Koran was the source of all these problems. Rather that it’s a text that is full of deleterious ideas, ones that I hold to be immoral and would not be pushed upon any kid of mine without my knowledge. I at no point claimed it to be any better or worse then the bible. However, saying that ‘people will always find ways to justify evil acts’ is overly simplistic. If you spend your life reading a text you are told is the word of god by everyone you know, are quoted it constantly and pray to the person who wrote the book five times a day, it’s going to affect how you think.

Well yes, many keep up with secular beliefs, and pay lip service to their religion. I'll state yet again, I have no problem with muslims, rather with the belief structure as a whole they purport to follow.

Which interestingly enough is what defines them as muslims.

No true scotsman and all that. Pretty much every single christian I know, is the type who's belief extends to about 'Jesus says be a good person', they don't follow the bible in any meaningful way, yet I still consider them christians. You wouldn't?

How to put it tastefully- Christianity in its modern form isn't very demanding of its followers. There are 5 basic tenets of Islam you have to follow to be considered Muslim. There are no two ways about it. Prayer, giving alms/charity, fasting during a specified month, performing a pilgrimage and testifying to monotheism.
You also mentioned something about spousal abuse and how they were being targetted by social services and the Met. I don't ever recall any news item saying they were specifically targetted, and even if it were the case, it would be down to cultural issues, much like how alcohol related violence and public disorder in the UK is down to the culture of binge-drinking amongst native British.
