The end of the first month of the year goes out with ... well at least 1 good game for certain.
The USA finally gets the newest edition of the excellent music/rhythm game DJ Max Fever for PSP. I know a lot of people have been looking forward to this, so check it out.
Also, Afro Samurai is out this week for the HD systems. I know almost nothing about it except that it's been hyped by Spike TV and Gametrailers.com. It involves a samurai with an afro, that's all I know.
The HD systems also get an MLB Office Manager. A lot of people are fans of Football (ie soccer) Manager games. Usually these are niche titles released for the PC and on rare occasions the PS2. I think the HD consoles have seen another Manager game before but I don't remember. Anyway, this is 2K Sport's attempt at the genre for the PC, PS3, and 360. Although, I find it somewhat interesting that these high-end systems are getting these games, while the PS2, Wii, and hell handhelds are not, because sports management games rarely involve graphics/audio or anything else that requires extensive technical power. These games have traditionally been almost entirely HUD-based experiences. But anyway, I don't know much about this new one from 2K.
Next up is the "wii-make" of Rygar for the Wii. It's a slightly remixed remake of the original PS2 game. Fortunately, the original game was a rather pretty affair, and is considered by many to be "God of War before there was God of War." Some complained of the original's repetitiveness and too-few enemies, so the developer tried to add at least a little more variety into this new game. The original is also cited for having an amazing soundtrack. That's all I know.
Nobunaga's Ambition: Iron Triangle is also out for the PS2 this week.
Finally I should mention that if you couldn't find Ultimate Shooting Collection last week for Wii, that may be because it shipped friday and wasn't put on shelves until this week, possibly. Unless its release date got jacked up again.

Neil Gaiman is good people, and has done will in other media (beyond writing) in the past, so that is worth a strong look at the least. How involved was he in the game development, though?

Part of me wants to get it on the Wii, but the other part just wants the damn thing back for the PS2 in the first place.

I'm in the opposite boat: I imported DJMP2 and loved it, and I'm kind of curious about Max Fever but the fact that it has a good chunk of songs from the one I already own makes it kind of worthless; I'd rather put the money toward importing DJMP1, but honestly I don't have the money for either at this point.
There is no way it's as good as the original though.

I think The Chase is worth a closer look. Despite the horrible box art, it's pretty much the opposite of shovelware - you can see the love of video games that went into making it. Yay for fun looking original IP games.
I've been looking forward to it since I saw the first video.
It's like Pac-Land meets Kirby Canvas Curse and Rainbow Islands
The genre's moved on and improved in big, fundamental ways. Plus, I really don't see it benefiting from waggle. At all.
