Marcus slid the last piece of the Alpha, the barrel into place, and began wrap the rear of the weapon with a padded clip-carrier. Once that was done, He produced a small clip, loading it into the underbarrel grenade launcher.

Jack, sitting there almost as if he were a statue slowly starts to talk, "There's a bulldog following us. Has been the whole drive, Galack, see if you can spot it without being too obvious. As for the rest of you, try not to make any sudden moves. We dont want then to know we see them."

Marcus switched on the rifle, linking it into his PAN, the image of the limo ceiling flashing into a window in his cybereyes. There was a brief grinding noise as the Alpha's internal mechanisms automatically cocked the weapon at his command.

    "What's the plan?"

"Stay cool. Any idea how many are in the Bulldog? How close are they?"

Carefully he reaches into his coat pocket, pulling out the imaging scope and passing it to Marcus without taking his eyes off the road.
"It's got ultrasound, if they're close enough someone try getting a look inside their van."

Luke then takes a quick glimpse in the mirrors, looking for the tail under the guise of checking traffic.

The Black Bulldog is rolling behind the limo along with 8 other cars and vehicles. There are 3 sedan style cars, 2 fancy washed and obviously executive property trucks, 1 delivery van, and big 18 wheeler hauling a chemical rated 4, 4, 3 down the tunnel. The orange lights and shadows flicker across its big metallic tank, casting reflections and shadows everywhere. Its very presence in the tunnel makes it feel claustrophobic and confined, less like a tunnel and more a like a tomb.

And then there is Galack on his huge hog, looking as out of place as an apple in a carton of snakes, the wind rushing through his horns, his PAN recieving signals from the rest of the team, both seperated and together he is closest to the Bulldog, but with the tinted windows he cannot see any details inside the van other than that there are two figures in the front seat.

The Bulldog is 40 meters behind the limo and slightly behind a light blue sedan, from Luke's perspective in the driver's seat they are on his right, hovering over his shoulder like an angel, but an angel all in black and with no identification badge.

The Van is making no moves, no signs that they know they have spotted. Without having seen them before, you'd hardly know you were being tailed.

"Good plan. Let's keep them in the dark, see what they're planning on doing. Wouldn't want anything happening to that tanker, looks like it'd make a real mess."

With that Luke keeps driving, not changing speed or giving any indication that he is expecting trouble. One eye is always on the mirrors though, keeping a close watch on the van for any suspicious activities.

As Marcus activates his com and makes a request the information quickly spills into your individual PAN's. The tunnel exits on the other side of Mountain Creek Lake and splits into four roads. Three of the roads lead like grim black rivers to corporate compounds.

The lane to the right of the one you currently occupy becomes the road leading to the Shiawase corporate compound, a huge corporate campus that so collegiate you could almost ignore the security absolutely everywhere.

The lane you currently occupy will eventually lead to the compound of a local genetics firm, known to be associated with UO. The place is nicknamed "Castle Frankenstein" locally, for its grim solid exterior, almost completely self-contained arcology design, and the layers of security that include everything but a moat around the building. Well that and the horrible genetic experiments presumed to occur within. It is UO after all.

The lane to the left of your proceeds straight onwards, to the Texas border and eventually to Aztlan.

The lane on the far left leads to an isolated overlook of Mountain Creek Lake. Nobody goes there. Decades of Shiawase and UO run-off, subtle though it is, has left the lake grey. The land surrounding the lake isn't much better. It holds grass, and wildlife. Even trees. But everything seems touched by death. The animals are thinner than they should be. The trees less colorful, the grass thick, but somehow never tall. The whole area is just.... dead.

Behind you, rolling with the certainty of an undertaker, the black Bulldog glides along.

"Well folks, what's the plan? Straight to work or a bit of a sightseeing tour?"

With the care of a practiced driver Luke maneuvers the limo into the lane immediately to the left. He then watches the van like a hawk, waiting for it's reaction to the change in position.

With a slight twist of his neck, Damien broke off his counterspell protection. If that one teensy, little mage said there were just a bunch of dead bulbs, there wasn't much point in keeping his energies focued. With that, he turned to face those in the car.

"Look, these guys have been riding us harder than Margret Thatcher in heat. Our job is to shoot anything that looks like it might shoot our employer, and that Bulldog sure as hell looks like it's going to make a move on him. We can take them easy if we launch one big ole' alpha strike. We've learned everything we can from watching them, so now we might as well learn what we can from their corpses. I say we kill them and we do it quick." After speaking, Damien sits back, staring out the window, mumbling something about how quick they'd burn.

So do we want to head to the middle of nowhere or into the welcoming arms of Shiwase security forces? If we can catch one alive that'd be a great help to any further investigations. My vote's for the middle of nowhere."

Keeping the car moving in its current lane, Luke waits for the general consensus.

Let's just go somewhere a little quieter, do what we're paid to do, and hope one of them survives. We can drag him back to Shiwase and interrogate one of them there." Hemerson says "Well Mr. Jacobs, when we exit the tunnel, we will be twenty minutes from the compound."

The word compound is barely out of Hemerson's mouth when the limo bursts in to the outside world, cold orange light replaced by sunlight and the illusion of warmth. No actual is allowed to get into the contained, artificial world of the armored limo, but the sunlight at least makes things less grim.

At least for a moment. With almost studied indifference, 6 different vehicles peel off the side of the road where they were waiting with the engines idling. Making no attempt to conceal themselves they fall in beside the black bulldog and in front of Galack. The vehicles spread themselves out so as to take up all 4 lanes, with at least one vehicles in each.

3 of the vehicles are GMC bulldogs. Not smooth slick rides like your all-black pursuer, but beat-up rusted out junkheaps, all in white. The kind you see everywhere in Z-zones.

2 of the pursuing vehicles are family sedans, with bumper stickers proclaiming a local child's talent, sports ability, or ability to beat up an honor roll child. One is a dark blue sedan, the other is hunter green. And both sedans have distrubing red stains visible through their windows.

The last vehicle is a sports car with the top down. In the shiny red sedan sits one man, with a shaved head and an all white, pale face. You can't see his eyes, but you can make out that the man is wearing makeup and is scarred from his left cheek to his right cheek, as if a blade passed right through his mouth going clean through both cheeks. Judging from his leather clothes and guant face, you doubt the sports car is 'his.'

Looking back Hemerson yelps out "This can't be good."

With that the Limo begins to glide right, heading for the lane to the compound.

"If any of y'all see weapons, take 'em out before they can use 'em. We'll worry about keeping some alive when there are less of 'em."

We've got a goddamned parade of people who want to kill Hemerson driving behind us, and I don't think this is the sort of situation where you give them the benefit of the doubt. If these guys are who we think they are, I'm sure they won't be going to the police. If they aren't, a few hundred nyuen and a photoediting specialist says they pulled first." Glacing back at the procession, Damien shakes his head violently for a bit before saying, "No, no, that isn't going to fly. The creepy mouth man is right there. In an open vehicle. In daylight. I don't know who he is, but I can think of worse ideas than wasting him right here and now. Come on, guys." Damien shudders a little, his eyes blinking rapidly. "Before it's too late."

With that, Damien pulls out his focus, and begins shifting it in his hand like prayer beads, intoning underneath his breath, "Aduro, flamma, extermino, exuro, oppugno," and a series of other words underneath his breath, although he still seems to be paying attention to the situation.

Luc scans the newly assembled horde. The harsh angry tones of their inner hearts light the astral with a fiery hue. Repressing a shudder he retreats into his mortal coil..

The lounging dwarf starts, pauses, then replaces his fedora upon his head revealing his stern countenance. "Sorry if I'm behind, I was a bit distracted. If I may ask..." he reaches behind him and fastens his seat belt while he glances out the window "..why we are not going a whole lot faster than we are?"

"As I see it, if this is actually a serious exeu-limo we should be able to outrun all of those following us except the sports car and perhaps the original bulldog. The rest all look like something that was recently stolen and are going to have typical, bad, tires on them. They'll handle horribly at high speeds and a little encouragement will easily leave the road."

"Second, why are we not running for the Shiawase compound? My understanding is not that they don't care about the safety of Mr Hemerson but they do not believe in the credibility of the threat. If we come screaming into the compound with.." nodding his head for emphasis "..that on our tails it should go a long way towards convincing them. That and the soothing embrace of extraterritoriality when we're being directed by a senor executive of said corp."

"Am I missing something here?" Toggling into AR he glances at the pursuing vehicles, attempting to note down the license tags of any that are visible.

"The reason we aren't going faster is because as soon as we do they'll start shooting. I'd like to avoid getting shot at for as long as possible. Plus, this thing isn't going to handle as well as I'd like when we hit high speeds being a limo and all. As it stands we're going to give them a surprise by veering across the highway at the last second and heading for a deserted area. I don't think we want to be held responsible for property damage even in a big wigs defense. Once we're out of the city we'll 'incapacitate' our followers and then grill them for information. Should help find who's behind this and solve the problem for good."

Luke appears to tense up. He's looking all over the road, keeping an eye on all other traffic. Obviously he doesn't want to find a vehicle in the wrong place when the maneuvers start to get more risky. He reaches up between the collar and the back of his neck and pulls out a cable, which he plugs into the rigging jack on the limos dash. He's still looking around though, so he obviously hasn't dove in yet.

As the turnoff approaches with stately speed, Luke jerks the wheel to the left and the Limo screeches and turns onto the road leading to the Mountain Creek Lake overlook.

The sudden turn causes everyone not bucked in to go sliding around skidding over the synth-leather seating. Marcus slides right into Jack. At the fulcrum of the movement Damien almost slides off his seat. Marcus mutters a quick perfunctory apology and gets back to his position. Hemerson, safely buckled in, is still thrown against the seatbelt, the synthetic material crushing him between the force of the turn and the unyielding resistance of the belt and gags for a bit, as the breath is forced from his thin body. Luc, who was also buckled in does not suffer so poorly, as his fitter frame is pushed against the seat belt, but only suffers a constriction of breathing, not a crushing force against which the muscles cannot stand.

Hemerson, coughing, struggles to say "And the drive to work was always so pleasant..." Its a thin veneer of a smile he is wearing now.

Unfortunately the lead your pursuers gave you was more than enough warning for them to see the turn, so like clowns getting into some kind of maniacal clown car all 7 vehicles turn and follow you down the empty gray road.

From the point of entrance to the overlook the road is as straight as an arrow. Minutes and miles speed by and the landscape, with its lifeless verdance, its dull colorless growth, zips by.

One mile from the end of the road, where the overlook road deadends into a parking spot, the sunroof on the hunter green family sedan opens up. From it appears a man in ragged leather with a pale, white, ghostly face. If this were all he was bringing, his unwelcome appearance would merely be the disturbing footnote to a disturbing chase. But like an IRS auditor with a big smile, he's carrying something you really really didn't want to see.

An Aztechnology Striker that he shoulders and fires in one smooth move. Now you have less than seconds before the missile it launched impacts somewhere around you.

Rolling the window down rapidly, Damien leans out, points his fingers at the sports car, and mutters a short incantation before snapping his fingers. The missile streaks past the limo, and detonates some 60 meters ahead. The resounding impact shakes the limo and shrapnel from the missile skitters over the limo, scratching the paint, and with the last piece of shrapnel, shattering the right headlight.

"Noooooooo." Screams Henderson. "I don't want to dieeeee!" As an afterthought, as he slips into nervous shock, Henderson says more numbly "I don't want to have to pay for the car to be re-detailed either."

As Damien leans out the window and concentrates, screams and lets fly with his stored Mana, the air around the sports car lights into flames and convulses with the gasp of burning oxygen. But before the fire can catch hold of the sports car, its bursts through the flame, in a gust of speed-created wind. The red finish is smoking in some places, and a flame actually gutters on the side of the car for half a second, but the wind blows it out, and the car continues on, essentially undamaged.

Luke, swerves the car around the hole in the road that the missile made, smoothly enough to keep passengers in their seats, yet sharp enough to give everyone a little lurch.

Then the road runs out and turns into a flat parking lot, black and merciless, and as unfeeling as the asphalt its made out of.

With a deft hand Luke forces the cumbersome limo to do a 180 degree turn, so that the limo is now facing the attackers.

Seeing this the attackers stop their vehicles 30 meters away from yours, and as they do so they form a big semi-circle, with the left or right side of all their vehicles facing the front of your vehicle. Given the many different colors of the vehicles, it would almost be comical, except for the part where leather clad pale faced gangers immediately start opening doors and sliding back van entrances to point their weapons at you.

Its almost a forest of weapons. Fourteen different attackers level their weapons at you. You see shotguns, assault rifles, submachine guns, and even a grenade launcher.

And then the man in the sports car stands up. He's got a sniper rifle. And the scar threatens to replit his face as he smiles when he levels it at you.

Luke leans over to his duffel bag in the passenger seat, and quickly unzips it. Reaching inside he pulls out an old shotgun, scuffed and worn from years of use. It looks like it has been well maintained however, with any marks being of a purely cosmetic nature.

Marcus leaned out the window, the world slowing to a crawl around him as his wired reflexes went into effect. He shouldered his rifle, switching his rifle's firing mode to use the grenades held in the integral launcher. His airburst link kicked in, a luminescent arc overlaid his sight, showing the general path of his grenade.

He steered this arc over to the sportscar, where he could see a pale, horrible figure slowly raising a rifle to fire on them. He mentally pulled the trigger; the High-Explosive grenade slowly flew out of the barrel, sailing towards it's target.

Before it even cleared the front of the car, Marcus had already switched the rifle to burst-fire mode, bringing the barrel to bear on one of the foes exiting the minivans. He picked out the biggest threat- a ganger with a grenade launcher- and pulled on the trigger, firing off one short burst, and then another a moment later.

As the limo slides to a stop facing the small convoy, Jack is already reaching for his duffel bag and pulling out his Walter MA-2100. His hands almost a blur of activity, Jack sets up the rifle, checking the sight, loading the rifle, giving the rifle a general once over before he slides into position.

Taking aim at the big guy with the grenade launcher Jack slows down and takes his time looking through the sight. Lining up the perfect shot.

A smile slips across his face as the shot lines up, this is his element, this is what the job is supposed to be.

"Theeerrre we go..." and a EX-explosive round streaks from the barrel towards the unlucky person holding the grenade launcher.
