I think that pretty much the only game I've ever been sold on just based on trailers was Mario Galaxy, and you know what the gameplay footage for that was like.

I don't think anyone has mentioned the Far Cry 2 "Barra Barra" trailer, but I thought that was really well done, again though the game disappointed quite heavily.

Also, the Assassin's Creed with UNKLE's Lonely Soul trailer. (don't think I ever saw the massive attack one that someone mentioned)

And I thought the recent Tomb Raider: Underworld trailer pushed me over the edge into pre-ordering, although the demo helped too.

There is no competition to this, Half Life 2 Traptown. I was SHOCKED at what was happening in that video. I couldn't want a game more if I possibly tried.

Traptown was awesome, but my personal fave was this bit:

Ah yes, I wish they kept that extremely dark atmosphere. Damn germans.

There was a trailer that they showed at SEARs for The Force Unleashed and it started with a carrier being pulled from space. And had Duel of the Fates playing. That sold me on TFU. Can't find the trailer anywhere though. The only ones on youtube were of the carrier being pulled from the sky.

I'm sure it was mentioned but Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. I had a boner for a week after watching the opening video and playing the demo.

I saw this trailer one day just poking around online, and it was the goofiest, most over the top badass thing I'd ever seen in my life. I spent the next two months trying to absorb everything I could about the game. I woke up early the day it came out and bought it immediately. I've never played a game that more accurately nails exactly what it's trying to accomplish. It's my favorite game ever.

Metal Gear Solid 2 E3 2000 Trailer. Never mind that it was subbed, and that in the end the game wasn't the greatest thing ever, no other trailer will ever endear me to a game like this one did.

My GOD I was ready to post this the second I read the thread title. 6:30 onward gives me goosebumps to this day

Not a true trailer per se, but worth it for the Rogue Leader shots.

This was 2000, by the way. Rogue Leader comes out and ends up looking even better than it does in the trailer.

Again, not quite as mind blowing as MGS2, but some of the cinematic trailers for Twin Snakes were mind blowingly awesome. Especially the 30 minute long one that told you pretty much everything you'd ever want to know about the game.

That GameCube one is hilarious, as it shows two games that never came out.

The very first Halo trailer grabbed me and never let go. This was way before they were bought out by Microsoft and went XBox exclusive. By today's standards it's nothing special, but back in 1999, there was nothing like it (well, Tribes maybe, but it didn't compare in terms of graphics). Funny that Steve Jobs was the person who introduced it to the world. If only he'd known.

And the trailer for the game at E3 2000 only made me want the game more. Although the voiceovers were kind of funny.

I must have watched that second trailer literally hundreds of times.

As a Playstation Underground member, I loved receiving their discs for the demos and what not. One of the trailers that really always stuck for me was the one for Lunar. It wasn't even any gameplay, just an anime clip, but it really made an impact on me.

I'm always weary of anime license games, but this trailer really sealed the deal for me.

I've never been a big fan of the boat song by association(since that scene never happened in the original), but it still reminds me that Working Designs were one of the few US publishers that could make a dub song sound good.

Eternal Blue's two vocal tracks were amazing.

Yeah, bad company had great trailers, it's too bad they never, you know, used them to advertise. It's twice the game that Army of Two was, but got the short end of the stick. Also, the whole emphasis on the SP campaign where the real meat was in the MP....I'd still buy a sequel.

This particular Mario Galaxy trailer just made me go "wow". Something about it just encapsulated the sheer joy inherent in the game.

I know DMC3 has been mentioned at least once but I had a different clip I wanted to highlight: the first cutscene of the game. You have to click through the embed but it's so worth it.
