Introverted guy at a silent disco!

So, silent disco. There's a DJ, but you can only hear what he's playing if you put on a pair of wireless headphones that they provide, so you end up with what an outsider would see as a crowd of people all dancing along to nothing.

I'm going to one of these events tonight (apparently - it's 11pm and no word so maybe not), and I have no idea how to behave. I think the whole thing might just weird me out. Has anyone ever been to one of these things? Is it not as weird as I'm thinking?

    It sounds like a way to get people to actually dance to shit, rather than ignore the music and grind on people. Not sure if that means you have to dance well, but yeah, if you have no clue what to do, just bop your head and see what's going on w/ other people. Nothing wrong with aping moves to get started.

    If all clubs/bars were like this I might actually start going again. Honestly, I would spend the whole night having the kind of serious conversations that most clubs render impossible.

    Agreed. I hate having to shout at people just to try and talk to them. I don't really appreciate the noise damage either. I think this is something I could really dig.

    It ended up being exactly the same as a normal club. They had a very nice dynamic with two competing DJs on different channels so there was almost always something decent on it. By far the best thing was taking your headphones off during a song that people were worked up to and just seeing people cheering to nothing,

    Wow this sounds really cool...i should bring it up with the other promoters where i do my thing. I wonder what equipment is needed to make it happen though and if i can get my hands on it.

    They seemed to get another company in to do it. That or rent it all from a company that does specifically this. I'll look into it if you want.

    Bringing your own gear kinda wouldn't work - there'd be cables all over the place. Their headphones weren't bad, but every now and again you'd lose signal for a second or so.

    They had one of these at the Big Day Out in Australia.

    Was lots of fun and the headphones were pretty good quality too. Watching people while you weren't wearing the headphones just made you go WTF though.

    There's a silent Disco at bonnaroo every year,

    and one day, this guy jumped over the baricade,
    no headphones,
    and started dancing along to the music.

    It was fucking hal-a-rious.


    And I agree, watching people dance with your headphones turned off is great.
