I feel like the right (his right) arm and leg could stand to be a bit cooler to push them back a bit more, but I may well be full of shit there. Either way, looks pretty good (The vertical slats on the left side of the stairs is also a bit wonky towards the bottom of the picture, but that may be intentional); from the look of it, you're almost done, so onward, ho!

Thanks for the crit crawdaddio! I tried to incorperate some of what you said. but I couldnt muster the heart to work on this for too much longer (I have too many other projects I want to work on!)

Here is the final. I know his knee looks pretty shitty, but... meh

I definately put this in your pile to re-visit at some stage Sub. It's very good and I love the composition, but with a bit more spit and polish it could be much better.

Yeah. If I were going to go back to it, I would want to shoot some reference. And I'm sure that the drawing would be much better for it.

It seems like you could have used color in a much more interesting way...as it is now everything is kinda dull and looks to be just shaded with black.

    Especially in the skin tones.

You may have been going for a look like an overcast sky or whatever but i think you could have been a lot more exciting in your color choices, it would have really brought this piece together i think.

I also think you need to do more digital practice in black and white. This most recent piece shows something i think you've been struggling with in your other paintings, a lack of contrast.

Work on your values and then do it some more.

Drop and give me 50! (black and white studies)

Deelock: thanks for the crit buddy!! I agree the colors are pretty simple. I was mostly trying to employ warms/cools for my choices. And art boot camp, huh? I'll do my best, haha.

Tam: Thanks for the comment dude, Im glad you like it. I hadn't thought of that, but now I will most assuredly consider it!

Hmm, I think I need to sell the atmospheric perspective better in this (among many many other things, lol). I have some ideas.

I have some sketches too. But that will come when I'm feeling less lazy. :P

Try using the selection tools to help yourself get an actual hard edge or straight line.

Using them is very fluid if you set them to the add mode.

I think it will also help your brush strokes look less constipated

    OH GOD

    BIRDS

I mean, nice tits! Great tits that is. Oh dear.

I really like the woman just above, mainly because the neck piece is really nice and intricate. Imo if you extended that level of detailing to the tops of her shoulders it would really round the picture out. Also maybe a tiny bit of shading either side of the bridge of her nose to make it look sharper?

Kenny: Could you point out a spot where they get 'constipated', haha. Bc I use the selection tools a good amount already, but I guess there are some spots where I should use them that Im not.

Surrealitycheck: Thanks! I'll experiment with the design some, and shade the nose better!

If the jawline was smaller and sliiiighty more "pointed" at the chin...and maybe if her face was slightly thinner, it may read as more feminine than masculine, then.

Imo it's not so much the pointiness as much as the distance between the bottom of the lip and chin, maybe!

perhaps if something with the mandible had something done to it by reducing its over all angle!

Sub try selecting the nose and mouth together and bringing the whole thing down a bit. I think the the mannishness and snubbishness could be taken care of that way in one go.

    edit:

f'r instance if you just move the nose and mouth down, add eyebrows and narrow the chin just a bit, she looks much more feminine:

Yeah, that's more or less what I meant by "smaller" jawline.

I WILL FIGHT YOU ON THE BEACHES

I always thinking of jawline as being the overall brackety-shape of the jaw, with jaw depth being how far backwards / forwards the point is and jaw height being the position of the bottom!

So using my trademarked 3-dimensional jaw positional system we can all ride into the sunset!

    Paintover.

    subpaint.jpg

And here is the psd if you want to take a better look at the changes. Mostly I rotated him a little bit to the left so he doesn't feel so off balance, and then I went in and fixed the armor to read like it is centered properly, gave his joints a little breathing room, raised the head up, and corrected the symmetry on the helmet/antennas.

Here is the latest with the soldier. I'm having trouble with the perspective on the legs. And the gun is just there as a spot holder, I need to design it out fully.

It's getting a little close too dead space for me, but oh well!

I like the design. The perspective is a little off on those lines around the cockpit area, need to be more horizontal.
