Order-of-Posts Bug

There seems to be a bug that I've just noticed today in the D&D chat, but seems to be forum-wide. Others have noticed it too. When posts are close in posting time to one another, they often get reversed, leading to weirdness and situations where you quote someone who then posts the quoted message after you.

It's annoying and strange.

Sorry if this has been mentioned but I didn't see it anywhere.

    Yeah, you totally got that post in the [chat] thread, which is why I posted after you with "Thank god I didn't get that" and got it.

    Nonetheless, I've also seen people quoting a post that appears after the post that they quote it in. I'll see if I can link any examples.

    Edit: Here we go. That post is quoting a post 2 below it.

    it usually happens when the forums list two people as having posted in the same minute, so I would imagine that in this thread, where that has yet to happen, there is no issue

    no and I just found out from my brief exchange with Khoo that the actual timing of the posts per se doesn't seem to matter, it's when the forum slots in your post relative to others around the same minute, so it looks like an issue with the database's log/clock

    I posted something before him at, say, 12:30, and he posted a response after that, but his responding post got logged at 12:29 as far as the forum's clock is concerned

    so basically, posts as they are listed in the database are being shifted around; a direct link to a post one second is probably a link to a different post the next second

    I've also noticed that the post-timer is wonky... at one point it told me to wait another 17 seconds when there was no way I was only 13 seconds past my previous post... almost 30 seconds had passed by then

    The best I can offer in terms of what I know about this is that the post timers are a big part of it.

    I've done two posts in succession. If I click to post again immediately after a post, the timer fucks up and the new post I've made will appear ABOVE the one prior to it.

    Now, where it gets weird is when somebody's thread immediately becomes yours after you post immediately after them.

    Fixed. One server had it's time server sync daemon shut down and its clock had drifted.
