From what I've heard this game is really only meant to be played co-op. Or at least that the partner AI is pretty bad and you have to constantly rearrange eachother's inventories.

I'm playing through solo before hitting up coop. At times your partner does some silly stuff, but really it's not an issue for the most part, and defintely not game breaking. The inventory thing is definitely tough in this game, say you want 3 weapons (pistol/shotgun/sniper), with ammo that takes up 2/3 of your inventory space. Mix only having a couple guns in with scarce ammo and it can get pretty intense

I think the introduction is probably the "scariest" part, then it just goes headlong into frantic action for the rest of the game (aside from some tense parts near the end)

True, though I think the village setting as a whole is the "scary" part of the game

but after that, yeah, it's balls-out action the rest of the way

So you should totally try it past the beginning Larlar, because horror games fuck me up something fierce (like, I can barely play System Shock 2) and I consider RE4 to be an awesome action game, with a horror motif.

I've watched a friend play through pretty much the whole game. I know that if I had been playing alone, the part with the alien thing and the tanks of liquid nitrogen would've given me a heart attack. I'm fine with scary games and movies as long as I'm not in control because I perceive it differently. I can disassociate myself from the danger.

I just can't get past the idea or something scaring me enough that I drop the controller and zombie dogs start eating my character and it's all my fault. I don't want that kind of responsibility.
