I decided I'd try out trial mode. I've never really been good at doing combos in Street Fighter. I hopped into Hard Mode and got stuck on the second trial when I realized I had no idea what a focus attack was.
Decided to downgrade to normal mode first. I'm using Ryu, and I'm stuck on the Heavy Punch to Hadoken. I just keep punching poor Dan in the face over and over, but no Hadoken. I had no idea these were so difficult to pull off.
So I wake up and decide to get in a few rounds of early SFIV.
My third match is a flowchart Ken. He beats me the first round as I play like shit. I smoke him the second round. Third round is close, I'm playing Rufus, he's at a sliver of health and has an ultra ready. I've got him knocked down in the corner. I'm at about max Rufus c.fp distance, so I throw it. He does a wakeup ultra. That's fine and all but it not only clips my hand, the animation jumps from him going into it like 10 feet away with the tip of my fist next to him to me suddenly on top of him while every single shot of his ultra connects.
That's some fucking bullshit.
That doesn't beat my Dhalsim throwing a jumping fp at a soon to be waking up opponent from 15 feet away only to get wake up ultra teleported to lose a round or match. I cried out fucking bullshit the first time that happened, and now it’s just a mumbling god damnit whenever it happens.
Fake kick is pretty stupid. Just mash the firece kick as fast as you can eventually he'll do it. That's how I did it anyway. Took a bunch of mashing for it to work though.
Does Akuma really fit into the entire story? To me it seems like the Akuma/Gouken/Ryu thing is completely seperate from whatever Bison and his crew is doing. I don't even think Bison acknowledges Akuma's existence story-wise, despite the fact that he got killed by him in Street Fighter II.
But he didn't really die, her survived Akuma's Shun Goku Satsu
Apparently Bison often dies, but keeps getting put into new Bison bodies.
But that's the thing; he acts like it never happened. You'd think he'd be pretty hellbent on obtaining Akuma's body for his own purposes, because demon boy is clearly the stone-cold badass of the series and the strongest fighter in the lineup. If they explained why he wouldn't (or couldn't) do this it'd be fine, but they don't, and it kind of irks me as to why. It's all about Ryu.
And then there's Ken, who despite being arguably the most popular character seems to fall through the cracks story-wise.
Ken's "just been so busy"...too busy in fact for that nonsense. Not too busy to get it on with his wife though
Ken's story is a major part of The Ties that Bind. Problem is, it's resolved at the end of the anime, leaving nothing for the game but "Lol hey Ryu let's fight again!"
I guess it's just become Capcom tradition that all Ken really wants out of life is to fight Ryu over and over and over again.
Okay I'm a retard, how do you block Blanka's ultra? Gets me every time cuz I'm dumb
at close range, block low, then high, then whatever (low or high, so long as you're blocking).
(edit) this is assuming he doesn't do a cross up ultra, which is just a pain in the ass to block
So if I'm right in front of him and he does it on wake up, I can block low then high?
Yes. The very beginning of the move hits low (as he comes off the ground). Then, as he is airborne, the attack hits like an overhead so you have to block high. It's tricky, I play Blanka and I've caught people with it so many times.

Yeah, when he is slapping the ground, that is his low hit, and then block up to stop his downward electric arc. Every hit after his spinning pinwheel thing is blockable low or high.

I need to break into higher bp rating play, I have such issue with peoples random inputs and lack of adaptation that when I try and do mix ups to avoid them getting wise and breaking thru my tactics I end up eating SRKs on wake up because they don't change it up and would have just got hit over and over.
Hopefully Akuma can get me thru these guys into the 2000-3000 range.
Abel got me to 1600 then I hit a wall, El Fuerte took me down to 300 the first day and now I float anywhere from 1200-1600.(ironically beating mostly 2200+ guys and losing to 900ish guys)

I tried that - i even mapped every single button on my 360 pad to fierce kick and mashed like there was no tommorow. But apparently my rabid monkey skills are not sufficient for this. Which makes me sad, because I really like Sagat. In a totally manly, not gay at all way, of course.

My best advice: make games and set it to 5 rounds. You'll have a bit more time to adjust to "crappy" tactics. That's basically how I broke out of the sub 2K bracket. I could identify people who had a clue how to play a little easier from the guys who were just going to wakeup SRK every time.
Yea I play 5 rounds on ranked. My issue is once I get people in to my El Fuerte wake up game I tend to mix things up because normal people try and deal with what has been working against them. Some guys tho will do wake up SRK til it works, and since I am attempting to properly mind game them and do different things and they stick to the SRK I end up eating it. I do think Akuma will help my rating, I haven't gone into ranked with him yet but I do more normals with him and am fairly good at timing my raging demons to counter moves or catch people falling from jumps.
Does anyone else find themselves losing to the flowchart kinda people every so often?
Sometimes I can rip through a good few games and punish these Ken, Sagat and Akumas but sometimes they get lucky, is it down to trying too hard on my part?

There's your problem. If you know they're being stubborn and going to keep up with the SRK, why are you trying to mix them up? You can't play mind games if they have no brain. ;-)
Sounds like you may have the issue I end up with. Can't mind game some one who isn't able to be broken by mind games. If some one eats fireballs all day long, throw fireballs all day long. Don't try and be like "Oh they ate fireballs half a round better change it up so they don't come back since I just keep throwing fireballs" Most flowchart guys don't use tactics.

Yeah, playing footsies or trying to attack when they are grounded is terrible against dudes who constantly use wakeup srks. You're better off just baiting and punishing over and over.
First he complains about a "scubby" Zangief landing "laggy 360s" and beating his Blanka, and now he complains that he can't play Zangief because of lag?
I still can't believe this guy plays at EVO. WAAHHHH WAHHHHHH
Seriously though, stop with the lag hacks Dekk, I know that's how you beat me in the tournament
Very nice boxer play. I kinda feel sorry for that DSP guy. You can just hear when he talks that he hates his life. It's time he moved out of his parent's house and get this worked up over something more important than a videogame.

Overthinking and good sportsmanship are probably part of it. Sometimes I run into flowcharters, and I just throw them all round long. But then second round I'm all like, I am bored of throwing, let's try something else and then proceed to eat SRKs till I'm dead. Just stop giving a fuck and if they keep on falling for the same shit, keep on doing it till they figure it out, then do something else once or twice, and then go back to plan A because they will have forgotten about it by then. :P
If they could, they will just jump in roundhouse > sweep you all day long and 90% of their BP comes from just doing that.

Did he just call me stupid? I think he just called me stupid.
I have trouble with throws. I can't seem to stop them, and only rarely pull them off. Any tips?
If you think someone is going to throw you, hit throw to tech out of it. As for throwing, how are you failing them? Is it an input failure, do you whiff the grab, or do they tech out of it?

I had this problem and remapped my left shoulder to throw. I kept getting thrown over and over because I couldn't hit lp+lk fast enough, the time saved with the shortcut throw seemed to make the difference needed for me.
Man, I am really loving Balrog. Jab jab jab jab and then crouching HK really seems to be fucking up alot of shotos.
Except for Sakura. She's a nimble little bitch.

I whiff or the input doesn't work.
Where did you bind PPP Lapine?
I bound PPP to the right shoulder. I don't have a 3K button which makes characters with kick ultras kind of difficult to play, unfortunately. I can do kick EX moves hitting two kick buttons with one thumb most of the time, but it's kind of unreliable, but so was trying to hit the left shoulder and do the motion for them with the same hand, for me.

Inputting the throw is actually easy on the 360 controller, since you can just mash both buttons with your thumb, but you can look into binding a throw button depending on your controller and whatnot. As for whiffing, maybe you need to be closer?

i noticed a lot of people are much nicer now. all sending gg messages regardless of how the match went down

Sadly those are the breaks.
IIRC, this is the one where you mash Roundhouse like a motherfucker.

I've noticed the same thing. Aside from the occasional disconnecting jerk, just about everyone is really nice with post-match messages.
SEE?! I say "GG" in a few ranked matches, and now the whole of Live is becoming nicer.
YOUR FUCKING WELCOME.
