No one ever has to be Chief. Once everyone has chosen characters, I'll need to know what three cards (out of your normal 5 (4 for you, Baltar)) you want to start with. Except for MrBlarney; you start with a full hand.

Actually, you get to choose those cards after you see your initial loyalty; so, we can wait on that until all the characters are chosen and I send out the loyalty cards.

And so it begins... making the initial board in the Gimp now, but I'll drop the Sitrep in here for Boomer to be deciding what she wants to do.

Although it may be a bit confusing with MacG running a Boomer avatar while he's the Old Man in here. I suspect we can muddle through. Can everyone at least put their character name somewhere in your Avatar fields (title, location) or in your sig? It would help make the thread a bit more readable.

Acknowledged; radio traffic indicates a problem, however. It seems some sort of security breach in the fleet has the civilians worried.

    Crisis!
    Security Breach
    6 Leadership, Tactics
    Pass No Effect
Fail -1 morale and all characters in the "Command" location are sent to "Sickbay."
    (basestars launch raiders)

    Cards submitted:
    Destiny Deck - 2 cards
    Adama - 2
    Baltar - 1
    Chief - 0
    Starbuck - 2
    Helo - 0
    Boomer - 1

This is our first skill check; feel free to discuss how you want to approach this before making your final decisions. Contributions should be sent to me via PM; when it is your turn you may also post in the thread indicating the number of cards you are submitting for the check. In keeping with the secrecy rules, you may say whether your contribution helps "a little", "a lot", or you may say nothing about its strength. At no point may you claim a particular card in the check or divulge the exact value of your contribution.

For special cards: Investigative Committee and Scientific Research must be played before your own contribution, and I would prefer they be played as soon as possible after the skill check is announced. If other players have already made contributions, I will allow them to reconsider and resubmit their cards if the situation changes due to a later IC or SR play.

Also, feel free to PM me with contingencies in which you will automatically play certain cards (in particular Declare Emergency, Strategic Planning, Evasive Maneuvers) so that I can respond appropriately and promptly when events happen.

I hesitate to say this, as it might lead to accusations of toasterosity. But, from my planetside viewpoint, this one might be worth letting go. We have nobody in Command and the worst that happens is a minor Morale loss. No point in burning resources early on this one.

Well, I'm not going to hold on to these cards. Hopefully this will save someone from playing something useful like an XO card on this check (maybe you can use it on me when it's your turn so I can get out there and give Boomer a hand). Contributing 2 cards.

It's only a 6 skill check. This should be easy. Just don't overdo it. If you prefer to hold on to your cards for another skill check, that's fine. Just remember that you aren't getting an action for quite a while (end of the second round), so your 2 Leadership cards are only good for skill checks.

I've noticed that contributing out of order is done quite often so I figured it wasn't a big deal. We can definitely keep things in order from here on out though if Darian (or anyone else) prefers it that way.

Probably makes sense to PM the GM if you want to contribute out of order. Also, I'm having to work really hard to figure out how many people in turn order have contributed. In my tabletop games playing in order always feels like it matters more, I haven't played by post yet, though. Also, what if we want to play cards that make things be played face up, or if I want to play the engineering card that makes engi cards help? If someone already determined their contribution before I declared that, they might still have an engi card in their hand that could help, after determining their pitch.

I can't help much, but I'll apply some elbow grease if it looks like neither Boomer nor the Admiral can pitch in.

Yes, usually, if you have a contribution you want to make out of order, then you PM it to the host, who will note that the order has been received.

As for things like Investigative Committee and Scientific Research, you play them before your contribution and then time 'resets' to allow others to adjust their contributions, as mentioned in Darian's last post.

I think we'll probably be fine on this check without your contribution.

    1 Leadership - Executive Order
    1 Tactics - Launch Scout
    1 Tactics - Launch Scout
    2 Tactics - Launch Scout
    3 Tactics - Strategic Planning

    Negative card:
    1 Piloting - Evasive Maneuvers

    Total: +3 +7 -1 = 9; Pass for no effect.

Plans in place within the fleet serve to minimize the threat posed by infiltrating agents, and the fears of the civilians are allayed.

Cylon fleet: The basestar at 9 o'clock launches another flight of 3 raiders.

End of turn stuff: Boomer orders a raptor patrol to scan the nearby area for additional threats; she likes what she hears (crisis card replaced on the top).
