Crossovers: Every Which Way But Up!

edited March 2007 in Graphic Violence
With the news from NYCC on an actual crossover between IDW's take on Transformers and Marvel's (pre-CW) New Avengers, I thought it'd be a good idea to put up a thread to discuss the merits or faults on having not just this crossover but on past ones as well. From the first meeting of the heroes who'd become the Justice Society to DC Vs. Marvel to Marvel Zombies/Army Of Darkness, we as fans have seen these mergings (or clashings) of some of our favorite characters come about to produce something really great or something you'd only see on a traffic school's accident video. Are they really worth it in the end? Is there any crossover story that stands out today one way or another?

I wonder when we're going to get announcement on what was mean when Didio said to Griffen "A cross over is just what we need"?

I want the Fantastic Four to crossover with themselves, from the 1960's. Preferably from around the time they went back in time to steal Blackbeard's gold.

It would be called "Fantastic Four x Four" and be a hilarious source of Silver Age madness.

On another note, the crossover that led to the Justice Society is probably one of the most significant moments in the history of American comics. We largely have it to thank for starting to company universes we know today.

I saw this at a used bookstore a couple weeks ago. There is no D: big enough to express my feelings about such a crossover.

I have a crappy wolverine vs nightman crossover and also the one from my sig/av.

On the whole I think crossovers between differing universes are a bad idea. That being said I digged both of the spidey and bats crossovers.

I could justify that on novelty alone. Biggest mismatch ever! Unless they had some sort of kryptonite blood plot device, it should've just been called "Superman Annihilates Shit".

That's pretty much how Green Lantern/Aliens went. Kyle lost his ring for a bit, but then he found it and fucked shit up.

Also, I've been reading JLA/Avengers, and it's not bad. Although it's weird seeing Superman and Captain America so...on edge(which is explained).

And Spider-man/Batman are supposed to be good, right? At least worth reading if I like both characters?

yeeeeeeeeah, he was in space or something and his 'battery' was constantly winding down so he was getting less and less powerful as he fought them. that's the only part i remember, and i don't recall how he won.

I personally enjoyed this story. It was nice to see Batman scare the shit out of and then hand the smack down to Carnage.

I've always avoided crossovers like the plauge. Even as a child I would hate to see my transformers and gi joes interact in any way.

It just wasn't natural. Plus it was agony trying to decide who would win in a fight: Optiums Prime or Snake Eyes?

    DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!!!

    Yes.

I remember actually liking the X-Men/Classic Star Trek crossover as a kid. I'd kill for a scan of Gladiator punching the enterprise, and Kirk's subsequent reaction.
