I ended up getting Colloquy. Seems to work just fine. Have yet to try it on 3G. It has a built in browser, I was not expecting that. So when someone posts a NSFA picture, I don't have to close the app to view it. That's pretty cool.
I probaly deserve an award for the weirdest, most esoteric IRC setup.
I use an app called upIRC on my Sony Clie PEG-NX70 running PalmOS 5.1. It connects wirelessly to my office router with a Sony WL-100 Compact Flash WiFi card. I type using a 1.5" wide by 5/8" tall soft keypad on the bottom 1/3 of the touch screen. I can tap out text faster than the touch screen's scan rate (I'm dealing with circa 2001 technology here folks!) and often drop characters. Tapping an uppercase character requires two taps on different parts of the softkeypad, so I use all lowercase.
I was just kicked out of the channel, and all I said was hello. Not a really nice way to welcome people, imho. Screen name was ashley, as thats my real name, hyuck hyuck.

We have been under attack by a few trolls lately
Someone in another channel (in #pafourms) under the same attacks said you were the spammer when you joined (suspected hostmask). You have been unbanned and can rejoin. Sorry about that.
Yeah I was logging in from work, which is what might have made the mask 'suspect.'
Suffice it to say thats really soured my disposition about the irc channel in general though. I said hi, and 5 minutes later when I checked back, I had been banned. :P
I have never been kicked. Not sure if that makes me cool or uncool.

Yeah, we had a spammer asshole problem earlier today. It helps, both for recognition and situations like that if you use your forum name on irc as well.

You'll need to msg an op to get voice, we're still having a spammer/troll problem and can't leave the channel unmoderated without getting spammed to hell and back. We'd ban him, but he seems to have an infinite number of IP addresses and hostmasks
This year, my... uhh.. wait.. 5th year at PAX, I am going to become active in the community BEFORE I get to PAX and idling in an IRC channel seems like just the ticket.
So if people are looking for clients, I suggest X-chat on all platforms if you want a decent GUI. You can get X-chat aqua for OS x and go here for a list of x-chat compiles on windows. I used the silverex one.
