[SOLVED] Need help remembering sci-fi movie title

My friend is trying to recommend a movie to me, but he doesn't know the title. The movie is spoiled below.
He says it takes place on a space ship, the crew discovers an alien artifact, one of the crew members continues to expose himself to it, it changes him, he kills all but two people, then the ship hyper jumps back to earth.
Please help me H/A.

    It sounds like it COULD be Event Horizon...

    Even if it isn't, you should watch Event Horizon. It's awesome.

    That's what I thought too. He said no. He also said that there is a black chick in it, the same one that plays the 20th century woman in Star Trek First Contact.

    The movie was crap though. Watch Event Horizon instead.
