Cristoval's Art Hole, tunneling for love

I have been working on this off and on for some time now and am finally looking forward to being able to let it go.

There are still some things I am unhappy with but meh, I will deal.

Created again in Maya, with extra details done in post using photoshop.

That is slick! i love it
i love the way you did her profile exactly like an o'malley drawing
the only problem i have with it is that her hair is a bit stringy-looking

Oh man that's pretty sweet. <3 Scott Pilgrim.

Only thing that I might suggest beyond the stringiness of the hair (smoothing for render issue probably, right?) is the elbow/shoulder area might need some extra edge loops for better deformation when animated.

    Overall though :^:

Yeah this is pretty freakin sweet.

Can't help to wonder what it would look like with some cel shading.

Yeah, I can't echo this enough.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

I meant for this to be done by the time volume 5 hit stores, but I really hit a snag with her hair and got hung up on it for some time. It was the hardest part of O'Malley's sketches to bring to three dimensions, so in the end aside from the bangs I got pretty lazy with it and shows. So I feel sort of bad about that.

Beavotron: Praise from Caesar! 8-) I am honored.

NotACrook: Uh, I believe it to be somewhere around 15000. I wasn't really poly-conscious while building this, but I am inspired to try again with a different character using way less, especially after seeing what these dudes can do.

Angel_of_Bacon: I'm a terrible with character animations, so I didn't even bother making this rig friendly. (good advice to keep in mind for the future though!)

And yes, this is the field I work in, but my real job is much less exciting. One day though!

    Thanks again!

Updated with a bit more details. (i.e. Missing belt loop around neck and fixed colours. Stupid working from two different monitors...)

Looks aces! I agree that the hair looks noodley, though. Try making it clumpier like real hair.

sweet zombie jesus that is GREAT!

I got into Scott Pilgrim late but just burned through four of the books in a week and now don't want to read five. But anyway as i was saying, DAMN that is perfect!

I haven't read Scott Pilgrim, but I want to now. This is pretty damn neat!

Umm... If I had to crit something it'd be the back of the hood; seems a little too round and smooth. But that's probably a stylistic choice more than anything else.

    I'm really digging this!

Just a quick question though: Is this going to be animated? Since you might want to rethink some of your loops if it will be, especially in the elbows. You need more geometry in your joints if you want it to deform right. Also her shoulder loops should be going the other way, more towards her clavicle, since in real anatomy that's how deltoids work. At least you got the break lines in her hips right, those look great!

If you aren't animating the model then ignore all that, since it looks AWESOME. 10/10~!

Although I'm not much for character animation myself (skipped through that part of class to focus on modeling), I did originally built her with animation in mind. Her body being one piece, while her jacket sat on top. This proved to be pretty unwieldy and decided to just build it as a static, pretty picture, stitching the coat to the main body and loosing all the fancy loops underneath.

    Glad you enjoy it though!

P.S. I originally wanted to do Ramona in her pose from the 4th book, where she is taunting Roxy while Scott hides in her bag ("is there a washroom in here??"), but O'Malley released the cover art for number 5 around that time and looked cooler and easier to find profile references for.

So I thought I'd just make this my general art dump thread.

Here is an examination room which I am currently working on for a government project. Total work in progress:

    ExamRoom-1.jpg

Missing textures and better lighting to be added later.

Do normal examination rooms even have those kinds of lights? Whatever. MINE DO!

I've been to lots of clinics where the beds are maybe 4 feet long. They will have an extension tray at one end, though.
