Did lower body today. Deadlifts were fucking brutal. I barely made it through the first set of 330 lbs. The second set was a total grind, the bar was all swinging out away from my legs and I was using every muscle I had to get the damn bar up.

Squats went ok, but then again I'm only doing 190 lbs.

I'm gonna do some curls on Wednesday, I think.

Should I do back/bi's on Wednesday, or legs/shoulders?

I'd rather not do squats after donating plasma on friday, but I'm not doing deadlifts whenever I do back this week, so it's up in the air.

    Nice, Mastman & Gafoto.

I know curls are much maligned, but I started last week just for kicks, and since a.) I can't curl very much, and b.) the numbers are going up quickly, I think I'll keep on. Anyone know how heavy those wavy preacher-curl bars are? (Less than a barbell bar, but I don't know how much less.)

Look, curls aren't intrinsically bad. Depends on your goals. They have their place.

It's just great to laugh at the people who make curls an integral part of "becoming massive brah".

i don't do curls more because i am physically unable to do them after doing ten sets of deads, rows, lat pulldowns, etc.

seeing as i won't be doing deadlifts the next time i lift (to see if that's what's fucking with my scapulae), i can incorporate them.

i would also like to be able to curl 135lbs for reps again someday.

My max curl is 115 right now on the straight bar. I tied a friend for max on curls. He curls all the time and I wanted to show that lat pulldowns/pull-ups were a better way to stronger biceps.

I do curls but only maybe 3 or 4 exercises. I have no idea how much I bar curl but I use the 60-65lbs dumbbells by the end for sets of 8.

I finally decided I'd had enough and ordered some chalk. Sweet relief is in the mail.

Also -- is it pretty much a given that front squats are going to bite your neck? I feel like I'm limited more by how much my neck hurts than by how much weight I can actually lift. Well, I'll try to be stoic, and not wear low-necked shirts again.

Edit: I'm a fan of the beard. But then I'm also a fan of Iron and Wine, so take all my style advice with a grain of salt.

raise your arms into the folded position you would use when doing front squats
feel you collarbone at your neck and then where the ball of your shoulder and collarbone meet?
that's roughly the ditch the bar will be resting on
once you get more flexibility in your wrists and can get your elbows higher, you won't be choking yourself too much.

make no mistake though, you'll probably choke yourself when you first start, just don't pass out

i've never hit my neck in front squats. i think i've got the perfect body shape to do them though, there is a perfect little valley in the collarbone/shoulder area that the bar just fits right in.

now the bruising is another story.

So i have to completely strip my room of furniture due to a roof leak completely destroying the drywall in my room. I haven't been able to make it to the gym this week, and probably wont, and i'm kinda pissed. Also, i've been sleeping on the couch so the rest i'm getting is pretty crap. so annoyed...

So I drink anywhere from 1.5 to 2 liters of water a day. I just bring a big old jug with me to work and go through it as I work.

Is this too much water? Is my body retaining more water?

No i think the only danger in drinking too much water is the possibility of washing out your electrolytes(or something), effectively making you very sick/dead. But you have to drink A LOT of water to do that. otherwise, chug away. i drink about that much as well, and i think water retention depends on your diet more than the amount of water you drink.

Well, I do want to be the prettiest belle at the ball.

Also, how does your diet affect water rentention? More sodium = more water retained?
