No Christians ARE scarey. The ones that join Christian Students unions, or go to..rallies. Yeah. Those guys are nuts because they shut their eyes, stick their fingers in their ears and yell as loud as they can about their agenda.

But that has absolutely nothing to do with religion or faith and everything to do with...small minded agendas.

The book itself is pretty disturbing.

Fortunately most Christians never read it.

Only the first half is really that disturbing. But then the first half of Fellowship of the Ring is boring as hell.
God really mellowed out after he got laid.
Maybe that's why we haven't heard from him in 2000 years. Angel gangbang.

I think part of the issue with the religious debates is that atheists take the bible far more literally then most, not all, but most christians do.

The worst ones are the stealth ones. It turns out that BISC (the Bristol International Student Centre) is actually a front for Christians rather than a place to help out confused students with culture shock and visa problems.

Sure, but that's not usually what I hear. It's usually "This law from the third book in the bible that was obviously, painfully obviously created for the specific time, place, and culture in which it was written is dumb and no christian follows it these days! Dumb christians!"

Sure, it's pretty obvious if you look at the history and archaeological records etc that the bible was pretty fabricated.

I don't know, I'm not the best person to explain this, being an atheist and non-spiritual myself, but, I don't know, plenty of religious people I've met, their spirituality has sort of... transcended the texts that inspired their spirituality in the first place?

You seem unfamiliar with the preacher's daughter stereotype then I guess?

Preacher's daughters stereotypically are even more rebellious then your average teen, especially against their parent that is a preacher, and have a reputation for being druggies, sluts, casting off their religion etc etc due to be over-repressed all their life.

    Yeah.

I had a teacher that really embodied that, went from being a jesuit priest to some kind of buddhist-christian hybrid. Deeply spiritual person, and such an amazing and kind hearted person but I couldn't help but have the utmost respect for him.

The fact that he was constantly slamming the catholic church and the like didn't hurt either.

As a Christian I have to condemn Catholicism based on it being a polytheistic religion. No other Gods before me etc. Of course this leads to a Trinity debate, but for the purposes of this conversation lets consider that ONE, and all of the saints and virgin mothers they pray to "many".
