Thanks to my zombie lit class, I have finally seen Dawn of the Dead (the original) and can compare it to Shaun and I must say that I really enjoyed Shaun quite a bit. Dawn I enjoyed, but mostly for campy reasons -- like the way Flyboy runs. Or the fact that there's a goddamn Hare Krishna.

    Anyway, fuck yo' remake.

I think it is almost impossible to produce a zombie film that I dislike. Even horrifically poor zombie movies tickle my fancy.

Most other “horror” movies bore me to tears, but the moment you throw in zombies, it's awesome

Wait, this American Battle Royale remake

Are you guys talking about that movie with Stone Cold Steve Austin in it?

The Condemned I think it's called?

Where they send these people on death row to an island to kill each other, and the last one left gets set free

Which is fucking dumb because someone who was on death row and just proved they're a fucking great killer is now free to kill a whole lot

Is this what you're talking about?

There was also that 90's movie with Ray Liotta about him being sent to a prison island and a rocket gun. It was awful, but I remember laughing at a lot of parts.

I think everyone is missing the point here entirely.

Did anyone at any time mention the news that J. Michael Straczynski is adapting World War Z for Paramount Studios and Plan B, Brad Pitt's production company?

The Ring was an ok remake, nowhere near as good as the original Ringu though.

And the Dawn remake was pretty decent. Fast zombies is like the ultimate nightmare.

I fucking hate it when people spout this bullshit.
I saw The Ring. It fucking scared the bejesus outta me the first time around. I heard all these people trying to sound cool and indie by claiming that the original Japanese version was better, so I decided to check it out.

What a load of crap. Ringu was lame as shit and had no scare factor in the slightest. You got to sound like you were more in touch with the movie industry by telling your friends the original was better, sure, but it doesn't change the fact that you're a douchebag.

    Wait... wait...

They're making an AMERICAN Battle Royale REMAKE!?
    What!?
    WHAT!?
    Fuck those pricks.

I can already see it, a bunch of 28-year-old actors pretending to be 14, running around, falling in love and getting killed by a cheesy villain.
That's what the Japanese version was, how could it be worse?

Read the book then you can complain about all of the movies.

I saw The Ring. It fucking scared the bejesus outta me the first time around.

So, I saw The Ring on DVD right after it hit the shelves a few years ago and I thought, "Wow, that was some intense shit! Not too scary, but a good ride. I'll definitely watch that later." Done.

Six o' clock in the a.m. rolls around and I wake up and kind of roll over, glance at the clock and take my bearings in the room and ohjesusdeargod, the bitch from the movie is at the foot of my bed, long black hair over her face, right at the foot of my bed, ohjesusdeargod, she's coming to get me, right at the...foot...of...the..bed...where my ironing board is and I had laid my black work slacks over the edge of the board, christthatwasfuckingscary.

Now, I can't readily go back to sleep, so I do what any red-blooded male would do to incite a state of drowsiness: masturbate.

I start thinking about the porno I had picked up the week prior and this totally hot dark haired girl from The Ring, ohjesusdeargod, I can't even jerk it without this bitch in my sex fantasy, she'sgonnabitemydickoff!

I showed up at work more than two-and-a-half hours early for my shift; when everyone else got to work and tried to find something to do, I had already completely opened the restaurant, by myself.

    "Dude, you're here kinda earl-"

"FINE! I'M FUCKING FINE! NO PROBLEMS HERE! HOW DID YOU SLEEP?!? GREAT!"

I convinced myself to watch the movie every day for the next seven days, just so I could go to sleep and jerk off again.

    ~fin~

I just liked 28 Days Later.

And not exclusively for Cillian Murphy!

    Negative

I hate it for being a damn stunning film for the first half, and then the second half is this rushed, tacked on, heavy handed, george romero wannabe bullshit

OH NO MAN IS THE REAL MONSTER OH GOD NO SHIT I RAN OUT OF STEAM HALFWAY SO I FIGURE I'LL JUST RIP OFF DAY OF THE DEAD OR SOMETHING

director has his head so far up his ass that he changed the ending of the film (for the worse, even) POST-RELEASE

hey, when your movie hits theaters, you should probably stop working on it

he had an absolutely phenomenal film going, and then decided to gut it and spill his hackjob seed all over the corpse

reinstate the original theatrical ending, admit to yourself it's a goddamned zombie flick, and toss 80% of the puerile garbage that the film devolves into after they get to the military base, and it'd be amazing

as it stands, it changes gears so sloppily and hamfistedly (hee new word) that i'm disgusted that i enjoyed the first part so much

Well, I respect your opinion more but don't feel nearly as strongly about it as you do. I guess because I didn't know anything about how the film originally ended. My opinion is that you should judge a film based on what you're actually seeing, not what it almost was or could have been or how closely it follows the source material. So I still enjoyed it and the criticism of the commentary about man being the true monster seems petty. Sure, Romero originate that idea but he pretty much started the whole genre and most zombie genre fans would (I think) agree that good zombie stories really focus on how the human characters deal with each other. I haven't read all of Walking Dead but wht I did read of it definitely hits on the same themes, albeit more intelligently.

See the thing is, I saw it in the theater when it first came out, and the second half of the movie I thought was really tacked on and forced

a few weeks later they rereleased the film with ALL NEW ENDING COME AND SEE

and I figured they'd maybe unshitted the film somehow, so I went again

    and they'd made it worse

The original ending had cillian murphy being bitten and them trying to find a hospital or somewhere where they can try to get him a blood transfusion, but he dies on the table and the two girls journey forth into uncertainty

the revised ending has everyone living in a quaint british cottage, sewing a giant thing that says help and then flagging down a passing jet fighter
