What the fuck, Boston?

The Boston police blew up another "suspicious device" today. It was a fucking traffic counter chained to a street sign.

Seriously, well done Boston. The terrorists don't need to win. We are defeating ourselves with stupidity.

Story.

Most of the people involved with the ATHF debacle on Cartoon Network's side already resigned. Too bad, otherwise they might not have looked so dumb anymore.

So they don't go off in an un-contained area. They are blown up in a place where nobody is, or in a container that is proofed such that the explosion won't hurt anyone.

I bet the Chief of Police just hands out scavanger hunts to cops on ticketing duty.

But look at the video - if it were a really powerful bomb I'd think that the shrapnel could've easily flown to where they show the crowd being taped off.

    Hm
Perhaps that particular method is designed such that exploding the device from outside would cause the shrapnel/ball bearings to not eject.

edit - What I'm trying to say is that while everyone in charge of what the bomb squad does is stupid, the bomb squad knows what they're doing.

People should start leaving extremely non-suspicioius things around Boston with a sign that says THIS IS NOT A BOMB attached to them. Like a basketball, or a ham sandwich, or a playing card, or a GI Joe, etc.

A couple weeks after 9/11 someone called the cops to report a suspicious package up the block from us. So the cops and the bomb squad showed up and eventually blew up an empty backpack.

All I could think was,"Why the hell would the terrorists plant a bomb on the bad side of Pasadena in the middle of the road?"

    It was pretty cool, though.

Or maybe like a hot dog with mustard and relish but no ketchup.

Or a snicker's bar without the wrapping.

I'm thinking pretty much anything edible randomly placed with a sign saying "Not a Bomb" would be awesome.

Or maybe that picture of Kramer, all life sized with the fancy frame.

    That'd be pretty good too.

I'm sure the bomb squad has more intelligence than the politicians by far - their method in this case just seems unorthodox given how many different types of weapons could be deployed in a box like that - nuclear, biochemical, highly explosive, etc.

This is an example of retroactive anti-terrorism.

We don't ban box cutters and scissors until after 9/11.

We don't check shoes until the shoe bomber.

We don't care about liquids until Powerade bomb plot.

I'd like to see a terrorist try to use denim jeans and his hair for a bomb. Fucking TSA not actually doing stuff useful until it's already too late.
